I'm glad to see some kind of action finally taken against the kids who drove her to this. I remember when the story hit back in January and I was absolutely disgusted by what I was hearing. Kids can be f***ing ruthless sometimes.

Don't those kids have anything better to do?

In the story they refer to her as pretty. That's a weird thing to say like if she was ugly it would be different.

I had to be "the new kid" in high school under somewhat similar circumstances. Almost all of the people who became my friends did so AFTER high school. I don't know why anyone would be nostalgic for such a time.

Wow, that's just insane. I hope the weight of this tragedy follows these girls to their grave.

Don't those kids have anything better to do? They never do. Once they see someone who's a "nerd," or "weak" to them, they ride them, pick on them and make going to school for them a nightmare. Some kids will harass and abuse until their target either goes away or snaps.

A shame.
Moreso because in a twisted way, they 'won'. She's gone rather than ever realizing any sorta potential she mighta had.
As you read deeper it mentions things like assault and statutory rape that goes beyond what one would think of as 'bullying'.
And the story says that faculty and other adults knew of the bullying, even witnessed it, and did nothing. How vile.

This really sickens me and breaks my heart. No one deserves that at all. I've experienced that through out middle school and high school. Since I was bigger than alot of people no one would mess with my physically, but they got to me mentally. I probably would have been miserable going through what this girl went through. I don't know if I would have taken my own life..but that doesn't matter. No one should have had to go through there school lifes in fear of these horrible people.
God this really pisses me off!!!

You know what's really tragic? How unsurprising and not unique the situation is.
I'm not sure what happened and when, but somewhere along the line, schoolyard bullying and teasing crossed the line into something more and it's just getting worse. Not just this case, but what about the mom who hacked into a girl's MySpace account, pretended to be a guy, got her hopes up, then broke her heart driving her to suicide? And not justifying the reactions at all, but kids don't suddenly think it's a cool idea to buy a gun and shoot up a school just for the heck of it.
And don't kid yourself for one minute because most teachers don't want to get involved. I heard a LOT of teachers wash their hands, simply saying "I'm not here to be a parent or a babysitter." and just let it go.
For the record, I was teased and bullied without pity for 8th grade all the way up to senior year. Kids did it because they knew I'd react, girls did it because I was a soft touch and guys did it just to humble me. Yes, I complained to teachers, principals, anyone who would listen. All I got was, at worst, a "tough it out, it'll get better" statement or, a BRILLIANT solution for a high schooler, the suggestion that one of my parents shadow me for the day to make sure it stopped. Oh yeah, THAT'S going to look good to the peers.
Sorry, didn't realize that would lance a boil like it did, just saying there's a problem here that needs addressing. Just darned if I know how to address it.

My parents actually tried there best with trying to help me against bullies while in middle school. Problem was most of the teachers really didn't give a crap about it and left it alone. It did get better a little bit in High School, but I still had to deal with little jerks who used to through batteries at my head on the school bus.

Know what you mean, except it was rocks and pebbles with me, plus bits of glass. Add to that harassing phone calls all during my freshman year until we finally had a tracer put on the phone and busted the two kids who were calling.

Yeah, what bugs me is that the title of the article focuses on the cyber bullying. See, I doubt THAT was her biggest problem with these kids considering you know, assault and rape. Seriously, I can't believe some people can go THIS far into hating someone for no reason other than "she dated the guy WE wanted to date!" I hope they don't get any "Extenuating circumstances" on the ground that they're teens. They don't deserve it. They knew fully well what they were doing and even kept insulting her after her death when people were trying to mourn her passing. They have absolutely no excuse whatsoever, they should be tried in the same way as adults and they should be given the harshest penalty they can get.

That breaks my heart, man. I've always been one of those "man up and deal with the bullies yourself" kind of guys, but this was just sad.

I'm going to hell for thinking about this part, but I'm curious to see how the two guys and the rape played into the bullying of the girl. Call me crazy, but I'm wondering if the sex in at least one case was consentual, leading to the bullying, but the guy got nailed because she was 16. I could be very very wrong (or seen too many SVUs), but just wondering.

A complete failure on the part of everyone involved to intervene in this situation--from school authorities to fellow students onwards. I was bulled back in grade school pretty severely but at least it never really left the school grounds. Things are getting out of hand. It's clear bullying in this day and age is becoming a great deal more severe, violent and all around brutal.
We're losing too many kids to scum like these "Mean Girls." It's obviously time that some sort of comprehensive anti-bullying strategy be employed. Teachers and school administrators need to be held accountable for not intervening and having the parents of all parties become privy to the situation.

I just love how school is about the only place you can be beaten, tormented, sexually harassed, etc., and no one does anything about it.
