I left comments for Round 7, but didn't put my rankings because that would have been "spoilerish" going into the round we just had.
See two pages ago for my comments:
1. "Rapper's Delight" - The Sugar Hill Gang 2. "Blue Monday" - New Order 3. "Purple Rain" – Prince 4. "The Show" - Slick Rick & Doug E Fresh 5. "The Dark Memories" – Heavenly 6. "Nothing Else Matters" – Metallica 7. "Seeing Angels" - John Butler Trio 8. "Stairway To Heaven" - Led Zeppelin

And my votes are already in. A round that easy to score from the top down, but kind of murky in the middle

I should note that first place votes will still be worth 10 points this round. The 11th and 12th place songs on each judges' ballots will get 0 points.

I sent mine a while ago. I have to say that while I was thrilled with a few of the choices, I was kind of disappointed with the rest...

I sent mine a while ago. I have to say that while I was thrilled with a few of the choices, I was kind of disappointed with the rest... That's actually what I was thinking. My Top 5 are songs I felt did a great job in this category. I was expecting to have to go get the tissues after 12 songs in a category that was sure to tug at my heartstrings. But some didn't really hit the mark. And I was looking forward to this round the most after seeing the category. (I'm PMing Widow's Peak my "pick to click" that I'm afraid we'll never see in any installment of Idol to see if she marks as much as I do for this love song.)

I apologize for the delay in posting. The delay is due to some issues with the file I save the results to. They should be fixed by this afternoon.

After much ado, we are LIVE from wherever your computer is located, because THIS... is Wrestlecrap Idol! Hi folks, I'm still THE Baldy Kendrick, and welcome to the Wrestlecrap Idol results show. Now, this is the last round before the Final Five. For one of you, the dream ends tonight. For the rest, you will enter the final stage of our game. And in that final stage, there is no 'last round' to save you. No scores will carry over. Every round is do or die. But to get there, you have to get through this round. Let's begin, shall we? Gus Richlen, please step forward... Gus, you entered this round tied for the lead with 24 points. Your two choices for this round were Clint and Lisa Hartman Black's "When I Said I Do" and Seal's "Kiss From A Rose." The judges have spoken. They gave "When I Said I Do" 11 points, and "Kiss From A Rose" 23. That means 34 points for this round, 58 in total. That is the mark to beat right now. Stay with me. Strykerdarksilence, please step forward... Stryker, you were tied with Gus with 24 points. Your picks were Cat Stevens' "How Can I Tell You" and Muse's "Undisclosed Desires." If you scored more than 34 points, you will be assured a spot in the Top 5. The judges gave your picks nearly identical scores. Together, they added up to... {Spoiler}19. 10 for Muse, 9 for Cat. That gives you 43 points, which means you're not safe yet. But Gus Richlen is. Gus, you can have a seat. Sudden Rush, please step forward... Rush, you had 20 points entering this round. You went with "I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders and "Danny's Song" by Loggins and Messina. If they combined for more than 23 points, you're safe. The judges, again, gave your songs nearly identical scores... {Spoiler}18 for "Danny's Song" and 22 for "I'll Stand By You." That adds up to 40, that adds up to 60 points total, and that adds up to your spot in the Top 5. Have a seat. Stryker, you stay here. Freak Double H, please step forward... Double H, you entered the round with 18 points. You went with a couple of newer ones. You went with The Counting Crows' addition to the Shrek 2 soundtrack, "Accidentally In Love." You also went with "Love Lockdown," but Patrick Stump's cover instead of Kanye West's original. If they combined to give you more than 25, that would put you over 43, and that means you're in the Top 5. Your songs combined to score... {Spoiler}21 points. That's 13 for "Accidentally In Love" and 8 for "Love Lockdown." That gives you 39 points, the new low water mark. But that's good news for Stryker, as he's in the Top 5. Stryker can sit down, but Double H can't just yet. Freddie is Steve is UT is Sparklethulhu, please step forward... UT, you came into the round with 18 points. You need to beat 39 to be safe, so 21 is your magic number. Your picks were Powderfinger's "My Happiness" and Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes." The judges decided that "My Happiness" brought no happiness to anyone. It scored zeroes across the board, so it's all on Peter Gabriel. The judges gave his song... {Spoiler}26 points. He had to do it all on his own, and he did it. 44 points total means that you're safe. Double H, you have to stay here with me. And it's down to this. Straight Rudo, please step forward... Now Rudo, you had a rough go of it last round. You had 13 points, which means you need more than 26 this round to advance. Your choices were Daniel Beddingfield's "If You're Not The One" and The Temptations' "My Girl." Just like UT, you had one big score and one little score. The little score was for "If You're Not The One." That netted you 3 points. Which means the big score has to be more than 23 to send you through. If it's less than 23, Double H goes through. And if it's 23 on the dot, we've got a tiebreaker. "My Girl" scored... {Spoiler}...22.
I'm sorry, that's the end of the line for you, Rudo. You played a tremendous game. You deserve a hand. After all judges’ scores had been submitted and we were waiting for results, I made a comment to one of the judges about a perfect song selection. As always, these are my running, unedited comments I made as I was judging and seeing the songs listed for the first time. Looking back at the comments now, I think said judge might mark a little for the comments on one of my songs. I didn’t realize how spot on of a mirrored response it was to a comment made to me about the same exact song.
*******
Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows Great way to start. I loved this selection; it was unexpected. It has just the right amount of pep in its step, balanced with just enough sincerity. Good lyrics too. Thanks for bringing Counting Crows to the stage.
My Girl - The Temptations Well, here’s the thing. We’re doing love songs. This song has since lost its edge in that department because it has been so so so so so so so so so so so (see the theme here?) so overdone that it doesn’t really mean anything much anymore. I have a terrible connotation with this song, which is imagining lame older women smiling and tapping their foot to this song like it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but in reality, it’s just an indicator (for me) that they don’t really know any other songs. I kinda dislike the fact that this song is a “default” for so many people. It’s severely lost its flavor for me though. It mostly just makes me think of people who don’t know any other songs except for a select 20-30 that always get played.
How Can I Tell You - Cat Stevens Great singer/songwriter, no doubt. Is this one of his best though? I’m not so sure. This is an example of Cat Stevens minimalist approach kinda backfiring. He tries not to overcomplicate the concept and theme of not being able to fully convey love, but to me, the attempt to put that over teeters on trying too hard in this particular case. Hey, sorry, I calls ‘em like I hears ‘em.
Kiss From A Rose - Seal I’m loving that Seal is making an appearance. I want to really put over this song in my comments (it’s going to score high as it is), but in the back of my mind I was trying to remember why I had marked out for this as a choice in a previous game. It was severe déjà vu. Well, after a minute or two, I remembered it was a selection on the actual American Idol this past season and that I did mark out pretty hard that an actual good song had be chosen by a contestant. (Seriously, people remark about “karaoke” on that show a lot, but the biggest downfall for me a lot of times is that they choose really really really crappy songs or songs that just don’t work for that particular contestant.)
If You're Not The One - Daniel Beddingfield To me, this falls more into the realm of “cheesey,” rather than *love.* I don’t get overcome with any feelings when I hear this, because it sounds really manufactured and not all that genuine.
Undisclosed Desires - Muse I know the song pretty well, and isn’t it more of a song about a guy wanting to reform a girl rather than making all the focus on “love?” I know there are references to love in the song, but I get more caught up in the fact that this girl is quite mysterious rather than the fact that Muse is in love.
My Happiness - Powderfinger I don’t know. Again, this just doesn’t come across so much as a song completely and explicitly devoted to love as it is a guy who didn’t get his way to begin with and now that he has his girl back, he’s back in his comfort zone. If it’s love, it should be more about “us” and “our happiness.” It seems a little controlling and selfish, this song.
Danny's Song - Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina Well, if you were at the State Fair, you just pounded the hammer, rung the bell, and won a prize. Very moving and very much the kind of “love song” that moves me. Way to go! Extra points for the haircut and beard.
I'll Stand By You - Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders Good grief! You just nailed one of my favorite bands of all time! This isn’t my favorite song they do, and I’m highly resentful that this is seemingly the only song people know by them. HOWEVER, undeniably, this song kicks dump trucks loads of tail! I love this band. I love this song. And I now love this contestant (especially if he/she is a true Pretenders fan). By the way, this isn’t one of the stronger “live” performances of this song by them either. It’s one of the rare love songs where the studio recording loses something when going “live,” at least in this case.
When I Said I Do - Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black This song loses something everytime I have to watch that music video. It stands up very well as a song, but they really went to Tim McGraw/Faith Hill levels of botching when it comes to defeating the purpose of the song with every cliché’ camera shot and Clint Black’s overemoting. Not to mention, Lisa Hartman’s annoying slow posture-accented strut looks like something straight out of 1940s acting school gone wrong. It doesn’t make you guys more in love when you’re cheesy acting. However, yes, the song is pretty tight at times. I like Clint Black a lot, but I wouldn’t really even rank this among his top 5 songs.
Love Lockdown - Patrick Stump As a cover, this choice (from Fallout Boy, no less) seems to lose a lot from Kanye’s version. If nothing else, it helps solidify how weak I think Stump is vocally. For a “polished” recording, there sure are some pitchy problems in there for a lead singer. If I had it my way, Kanye would use the instrumentals in the Fallout Boy version and sing it like it’s supposed to be sung. I do think this cover has a slight edge on the music Kanye uses in his song though.
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel Oh my gosh! Yes! I thought of this song a blue million times as a perfect choice for WC Idol over the course of the last two games. I just never took advantage and picked it in any of my rounds for whatever reason. But this song RULES!!! You and I have connected. If you’re the same person who picked The Pretenders, we’re eloping … now!
1. In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel 2. I'll Stand By You - Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders 3. Danny's Song - Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina 4. Kiss From A Rose – Seal 5. Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows 6. Love Lockdown - Patrick Stump 7. When I Said I Do - Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black 8. My Girl - The Temptations 9. How Can I Tell You - Cat Stevens 10. If You're Not The One - Daniel Beddingfield 11. Undisclosed Desires – Muse 12. My Happiness – Powderfinger
*****
I was super super pumped up about this round when it was announced. I swear to you, I was thinking, “You know, a straight up love song round would be very very fitting at some point, because we haven’t done it yet.”
Now, as I said in my previous post, I was pretty pleased with the top 5 (VERY pleased with the top 3 or 4), but there were more “meh” choices to me personally than picks I could get sappy and puppy-dog-eyed about.
And on that note … Why is everyone so afraid of women in these games? I think I doused a couple of these songs with being so male centric and not really about “love” at all, and I just think that a lot of female singers get this category right a lot more often than not. But just in general, it seems like two or three contestants are the only ones who give a flip about the women of music in the past three games.
And finally If I’m being honest, I went back and heard Fallout Boy’s version of that song for the 3rd and 4th times and I realize I had given it quite the benefit of the doubt. Those vocals are really quite bad, I must say. I listened to it twice during judging, because I kept going back to Kanye’s version in my head. I think I gave it more credit at ranking #6 because of the chorus musical hook.
Before I got bombarded about scoring the eliminated contestant’s song so low, I promise you that I couldn’t have ranked it any higher. After going through kind of a hierarchy of how I was going to classify and score the songs, I had pegged it as what I wanted to put ranked 10th, 11th, or 12th. I went back through and bumped it a few times because a few blunders of a couple of the other song choices.
And on that note, I’ve commented on how I thought the top of the heap was quite exceptional this round. From there, I put a batch of songs that didn’t measure up (for me) in terms of effectiveness, but at least they were on category. Then, the bottom rung were put there mostly for being off the mark of the point of the round entirely.

I might be accused of being a bit harsh in this round, but there are so many great love songs out there (and you could chose two of them) that I didn't think there was any excuse for slacking. To the comments: 1. In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel: I commented to another judge that if I were playing, this would probably be on my shortlist. One of the most honest songs about love and salvation ever. Fantastic pick! 2. My Girl - The Temptations: I was happy that an old-school pick made it in here. It's so sweet, wholesome and happy. It's like an ice cream sundae in musical form. 3. I'll Stand By You - Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders: The thing I love so much about this song is its universality. It could be just as easily be song from one lover to another as it could be sung from a parent to a child or from one friend to another. A truly great pick. 4. Kiss From A Rose - Seal: It may be a bit overplayed (and over slaughtered on Idol) by now, but taken on its own merits, its a beautiful song. 5. Danny's Song - Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina: I just think about AM Radio and 8 tracks when I listen to this song. That's not necessarily a bad thing because the song is hopeful and sweet. It also has a nasty habit of sticking in your head days after you listen to it. 6. How Can I Tell You - Cat Stevens: As Pegasus said, its one of Steven's weaker tunes. That being said, its still lovely to listen to. 7. Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows: Nothing wrong with this song, I just have always found it to be one of Counting Crows' weaker efforts. 8. Love Lockdown - Patrick Stump: I think that if you are going to pick a cover at this stage of the game, you need to find one that blows the original out of the water. This one left me pining for the original. 9. Undisclosed Desires - Muse: Its a pretty good song musically, but I was missing the emotional connection. I just wasn't feeling it (*dawg*). 10. If You're Not The One - Daniel Beddingfield: This was just a tad overwrought for me. It had a toe into whiny territory for me. 11. My Happiness - Powderfinger: I pretty much instantly forgot this as soon as I listened to it. Its not terrible, but it didn't resonate with me at all. 12. When I Said I Do - Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black: As with most times real-life couples attempt to sing love duets, this song just smacked of trying too hard.

To the Top 5, I say congratulations. You have played the game well thus far. But that makes no guarantee that you'll still be around after this round. This games is filled with drama and intrigue. But not just any drama; the drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The drama that brings you back week after week. This kind of drama is...
MADE FOR LIVE TELEVISION
Your task: Select TWO live performances. But here's the catch: the two songs must be performances FROM A TV SHOW. It can be a talk show, or a weekly music show like Top Of The Pops, Midnight Special, Soul Train, etc... The show MAY NOT be a regular concert performance (e.g. special televised concerts are out, as are music series like "Unplugged"). If you have any questions, please let me know.
You'll have just under 72 hours to get your choices in; they are due by Wednesday, 11:59pm central. Good luck!

Muahahaha. This is next round is a specialty. (Not really, it's just that the last two picks from the last Round "Danny's Song" and "I'll Stand By You" both could have fit this round easily. Is that where the theme came from? lol.) Thank you again, Pegasus, for saving my picks from mediocrity! Widow's Peak also is warming up alot now. But I seem to have loss favor from Jazzman. I made it past top 6 where I game over'd last time, so I'm very happy. Not to mention I finally returned to #1 thanks to you lovely judges! Of course now that I went back, we entered the stage of the game where all points are reset and it doesn't even matter anymore. So I, and anyone else, can be eliminated out of nowhere (the worst/best kind of elimination depending on the person) The "Shock" eliminations. So far I got a 10, Jazzman (Look Good in Leather) and Widow's Peak (Purple Rain). I'm hoping to get one from you too Pegasus! Also *ovation for Hayden* Good Run fella.
