There well over 10,000 songs and well over 1,000 recognizable artists out there that contestants could use. I don't really see it as a "hard line" at all. Quite the contrary, I see it as *lazy play* to use a song (or a song that has been parodied) in what has only been two games. And I'll tell you straight up, that's the single easiest way to get dead last in any set of my rankings as a judge. Frankly, as a contestant, I'd be ticked off if I did something fresh and fitting to the theme and someone else just copped out of the whole idea of the game by re-using something. I always like when contestants show off an understanding and depth of knowledge about music in this game. If someone doesn't know any other songs than the ones already used, they straight up don't deserve to advance and/or win in the first place. It keeps the fun in it to keep the game fresh. I know what your saying and I can certainly see where you are coming from, however, if someone picked a song which was a favorite of mine in a earlier competition and I really felt strongly about using it, I won't hit them as hard as you, but they should be looking for something new and different

The other thing I was thinking was, how long should these songs be banned from selection? Remember, Season 1 started almost six months ago, and not everyone was around for that first competition. I'm not saying anyone should or shouldn't mark picks from Season 1 up or down. I'm just giving the reasoning behind my selection.

I'm not saying anyone should or shouldn't mark picks from Season 1 up or down. I'm just giving the reasoning behind my selection. It's actually quite easy. Scenario, I'm a contestant: "Oh wow, cool category. I can't get that Rescue Me TV commerical out of my head with Alicia Keys singing the chorus of 'Empire State of Mind.' That song absolutely rules. Alright, lemme click on page 1 of this thread. Lemme use my 'Find' command and run a quick search of all the songs. Whatta ya know, my computer searched in less than one second and there I see it was used in Season 1. Guess I'll pick something else." I actually *love* that we have some new blood in this competition for this season. Personally, my *first* instinct is that they shouldn't be penalized, but that's why I think it was a good move for the game moderator to simply PM the contestant back and say "try again" if they picked something already chosen. But since that's not the case, it's now (second instinct, for what it's worth) up to the contestant to follow the scenario listed above. It's not that difficult.

So, I'm back for another run at this. Sadly I can't say "I won it on the first try" if I even win. Ready for another Sudden Rush, of "interesting" song choices judges? Or should I try to go for the victory, and make sure to pick popular legends of music and songs this go around instead? I think I had a pretty good song list last game, except for two songs. While we wait for each round, I'll share some of my own favorite song choices from last competition. I'll start with two favs; the last songs that got me eliminated at 6th place: Free Fallin' - Tom Petty:www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ3snsZ1Jco... and by John Mayer:Boston - AugustanaThe Acoustic Version; I used as my "Farewell Swan Song":Enjoy.

And one round is in the books. Although I had no vote, I was impressed by most of your choices... but it's not my opinion that matters, it's that of our judges. With that said, it's time for the results of our Sell Out round. Remember, while there is no elimination from this round, positioning is important. Sweet n' Sour, Gus Richlen... please step forward. Sweet, you chose Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love." Gus, you selected "Dr. Love" by KISS. Both of you selected a song representing Dr. Pepper, so it's fitting that you both have the same fate... {Spoiler}You're both outside the bottom three. Have a seat. Sudden Rush, Evil M-eanie, and Undisputed Evil Double H... please step forward. Rush, you selected Axe Bodyspray with Cody ChestnuTT's "Look Good In Leather." Evil M, The Heavy's Kia Sorento tune "How You Like Me Now?" was your pick. And Evil H, your choice was Whitey's "Wrap It Up" from the Universal Channel. Aside from evil, you all have one thing in common... {Spoiler}You've each received a first place vote from a judge. Congratulations, you're all in the Top 4. An Orange With No Name, El Hoochadore, and Michael Hayden... please step forward. Hooch, you represented Heinz Ketchup with Squirrel Nut Zippers' "The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill." Michael, you rode with Bridgestone Tires to the tune of House of Pain's "Jump Around." Orange, your pick was the tune of the Branson, MO Tourism Department, the Doobie Brothers' "Listen To The Music." All of you... {Spoiler}will listen to more music. All of you are outside the Bottom 3. That leaves four fates to be determined. CageKing vs Blackout, Ravishing One... please step forward. (crickets) Ahem. CageKing. Ravishing. Please step forward. (bigger crickets) {Spoiler}Ah, that's right. Neither of you chose anything. You're both still in the competition, but if either of you fails to submit a pick next round, you will be eliminated. That leaves Strykerdarksilence and Freddie is Steve is UT. Both of you please step forward. Freddie, your selection was from an ad for One HD, "Still Standing" by Hilltop Hoods. Stryker, your selection was from an ad for Levi's 501 Jeans, Stiltskin's "Inside." Neither of you impressed the judges, but one of you has avoided the Bottom 3. Freddie... {Spoiler}You are... OUTSIDE the Bottom 3. That means that Stryker, I'm sorry... you're in the Bottom 3. Here are your scores through Round 1. {Spoiler} Sudden Rush 28 An Orange with No Name 26 Evil M-eanie 24 Undisputed Evil Double H 22 Michael Hayden 20 El Hoochadore 20 Sweet n' Sour 18 Freddie is Steve is UT 14 Gus Richlen 12 Strykerdarksilence 11 Ravishing One 0 CageKing vs Blackout 0
And here were the picks

***These were my unedited comments after getting the list and making my selections one-by-one: ***
"Jump Around" - House of Pain (Bridgestone Tires) Oh wow. First impression: we’re going to have some variety this round. This is a nice way to set the pace for the round. I’ve never truly been a fan of the song (as it seemed almost EVERYone claimed to be the original fan of this song), but there’s no denial that the video is pretty iconic and the song itself as well.
"Still Standing" - Hilltop Hoods (NBA on One HD) Oh geez. These guys again??? No real penalty for using an *artist* a second time, but you could have at least picked someone good. (Sorry, too harsh, I understand, but that was the first instinct talking.) Mercy points for the hands from Labyrinth being in the video. Also, to your credit, this song is probably better than the one from these guys used in one of the previous WC Idol games.
"Inside" - Stiltskin (Levi's 501 Jeans) I may be missing out, but I don’t recall ever seeing a commercial with this song in it. Don’t worry, I’m not saying that’s bad by any means. Just sort of surprised me to see this choice. I almost took off points for creepy, unexplained panning close-up of an ibis (what was THAT?!), but I didn’t. Only kidding. Thanks for giving us something fresh for the competition.
"I Would Do Anything For Love" - Meatloaf (Dr. Pepper) Before my comment, understand this: you *have* to know up front that this is a “going for broke” song choice, because—love it or hate it—it is obviously one of the most polarizing songs out there. So, with that said, it’s not hard to tell where I fall on the debate. These lyrics are just … wow levels of bad. It comes across as trying way way too hard (not bashing the contestant, just Meatloaf). Yes, there are worse lyrics out there in other songs, but pretentious – pretentious – pretentious, sir Meatloaf. The music and vocals in it have the formula for a truly great/epic song, but that’s like me trying to imagine “Habanera” from Carmen played with accompaniment of Homer Simpson’s farts (i.e., the impossible lyrics). I promise I always wanted this song to get over with me, but it’s almost laughable even though it intends to do anything but that (see what I did there?). HOWEVER, in the context of the Dr. Pepper campaign, I would have to say the ridiculousness of the song certainly fit. (I’ll never forget the dude’s face when girlfriend first reaches for the Dr. Pepper.) I’m not ranking this dead last even though it may be one of the stupidest songs I’ve ever heard. (And there are plenty of people who love it; I completely understand that this song is polarizing, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a fan of the song. Just asking that you understand it’s a very polarizing song and I’m just on one of the unfortunate sides of the pole.)
"Look Good In Leather" - Cody ChesnuTT (Axe) Recognizable. Pretty groovin’. I’ll take it. I didn’t jump for joy when I saw this selection, but it fits the category well and has enough juice to go over some of the other selections thus far. Good choice.
"Dr. Love" - KISS (Dr. Pepper) Rock it, good sir. Not a huge KISS fan, but by default, this is already vaulting into one of the higher rankings thus far in this round.
"Wrap It Up" - Whitey (House, M.D. on The Universal Channel) Before I give this song props, don’t assume it’s because it revolves around House. I don’t even particularly like that show, but I thought the combo of effective song with effectively meeting the theme of the round gets this major props. I’m familiar with the song, and in this context, it serves a great marketing purpose of getting me pumped up for its product. So, House doesn’t make the song awesome, the song makes House seem a little more awesome. (Also, I’m pretty sure I know who picked this one, so I’m sure he’s surprised I have him up near the top *wink*.)
"The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill" - Squirrel Nut Zippers (Heinz Ketchup) Risky, I’ll give you that. Squirrel Nut Zippers (and since they’ve been used in previous games, I’ll mention Reel Big Fish) and many other animal bands with three words in their name aren’t really my cup of tea. I don’t hate your pick or anything, but I don’t quite see it earning enough with me personally to put it over some of the other choices this particular round.
"How You Like Me Now?" - The Heavy (Kia Sorento) Yeah, I can get behind this. I was looking for and hoping for something majorly contemporary, as there are a million good current indie artists out there getting their songs picked up by major commercials. You, sir and/or madam, and I could be great friends during the course of this competition.
"Listen To The Music" - Doobie Brothers (Branson tourism) Yes! Good way to end it. A great song and a great band. In the context of this round’s selections, this was a nice fit. Well done!
My rankings:
1. "How You Like Me Now?" - The Heavy (Kia Sorento) 2. "Listen To The Music" - Doobie Brothers (Branson tourism) 3. "Wrap It Up" - Whitey (House, M.D. on The Universal Channel) 4. "Jump Around" - House of Pain (Bridgestone Tires) 5. "Look Good In Leather" - Cody ChesnuTT (Axe) 6. "Dr. Love" - KISS (Dr. Pepper) 7. "I Would Do Anything For Love" - Meatloaf (Dr. Pepper) 8. "Inside" - Stiltskin (Levi's 501 Jeans) 9. "The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill" - Squirrel Nut Zippers (Heinz Ketchup) 10. "Still Standing" - Hilltop Hoods (NBA on One HD)
*** In retrospect, I see that Sweet N Sour chose the song I probably trashed the most in my comments. That makes me feel better because I didn't necessarily want to hurt anyone's feelings or be too discouraging in Round One, and I'm really sure Sweet knows I dig him due to our encounters on other Forum Games. It's all good, buddy. Hang in there; I'm not going for heel heat here. haha. ***

LIVE, from wherever your computer is located, THIS... is WRESTLECRAP IDOL!
(Intro music plays)
Hello, I'm THE Baldy Kendrick, and welcome back to season three of Wrestlecrap Idol. With one round in the books, many of you are off to a great start. Some of you, though, will need to right the ship. Which musician will save you?
None.
Your challenge for Round Two, suggested by yours truly, is:
WELL, THE MUSIC'S REAL
Your task: Select a song from an artist or band who doesn't exist in real life. That band that exists in that movie you saw, or that rapper character from that TV show? That's who's gonna save you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Your deadline to send your link: 72 hours, 44 minutes from now. Thursday, 11:59pm Central. If votes are in sooner, results can be posted sooner. Best of luck!

Well, since Pegasus has left you with his thoughts, I find it only fair that I leave you with mine. The order the songs are featured is the order in which I scored them.
1) Look Good in Leather: This is a song that could function as theme music as you are walking down the street. It's cool, it's smooth, and it's part of a good commercial set.
2) The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill: What a shocker, Jazzman picks a jazzy commercial song. But I will say that I love the Squirrel Nut Zippers, a song that I was surprised to see, but really enjoyed
3) Still Standing: I had never heard of Hilltop Hoods before this song, but that beat hook got to me. It's a cool reggae feel and the lyrics are decent.
4) I Would Do Anything For Love: I love Meatloaf alot. I have Bat Out of Hell in my car right now. I understand why some people don't love this song, but I can't help but feel awesome with this song playing.
5) Listen to The Music: Branson sure knows their music and I'm a fan of this song. Just too many other songs for this to get placed higher.
6) Jump Around: See what I said for Listen to The Music, it's the same here. I know all the words and have for a long time, but there were a lot of good songs.
7) How You Like Me Now: A decent song, not one of my favorites for sure. Someone had to be near the bottom, it just happened to be you.
8) Dr. Love: Ok, I enjoy KISS, but in small doses (a mini-KISS joke writes itself). This is just not my favorite song from their song book.
9) Inside: It was just Bizarre to see that video and it's not my cup of tea as far as music goes
10) Wrap It Up: I don't know why I put this last honestly, it just seemed to me to be a commercial song that was entirely forgettable. Again, not my cup of tea at all.
In all, you all did a pretty good job. Hopefully this gives you an idea of my judging style, just because you pick something iconic doesn't mean you will score well with me. Take a risk or 2, I know I have in this competition. It's much more fun than playing it safe all the time.
Finally, this competition is what you make it, let's have a good time and here's to more good music to come!

My initial strategy for judging this round was to take the full length song and compare it to the commercial's usage of it. Unfortunately, only one of you had a link to the actual commercial, so that changed things considerably. My number one is ranked there solely because I had the commercial to use as a reference point, but to be honest, it probably would have ranked rather high regardless. Overall, very good song selections from most of you, and I really liked a lot of the outside the box choices.
My rankings:
1. "Wrap It Up" - Whitey (House, M.D. on The Universal Channel) 2. "Look Good In Leather" - Cody ChesnuTT (Axe) 3. "Listen To The Music" - Doobie Brothers 4. "How You Like Me Now?" - The Heavy (Kia Sorento) 5. "The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill" - Squirrel Nut Zippers (Heinz Ketchup) 6. "Jump Around" - House of Pain (Bridgestone Tires) 7. "I Would Do Anything For Love" - Meatloaf (Dr. Pepper) 8. "Inside" - Stiltskin (Levi's 501 Jeans) 9. "Still Standing" - Hilltop Hoods (NBA on One HD) 10. "Dr. Love" - KISS (Dr. Pepper)

Specifically did that to give another dimension to my selection, as the song directly related to what was happening in the commercial... and not just some random song in the background.
