So with Avatar coming out today, I wanted to get peoples opinions on the film.
For me personally I wanted to see it based off of the hype for the special effects, however when I went to go see it I put that bias hype aside and watched the film for what it was. I felt it was a strong film, not the greatest movie ever, but it had enough story and substance to get itself by.
So how did my fellow 'Crappers feel about Avatar?

I liked it. Honestly my favorite film of 2009*.
* = note, I haven't seen every film I wanted to from 2009 yet, so that can change.

It's a decent blockbuster film with some nice effects, some good performances, and has some nice moments but not the whole ZOMG!!!!!!111 B3STEST MOVICE EVAR <3 and being a front runner for the Academy Award. I remember seeing it within the first week and I immediately said to my sister, I like this movie but I'm going to hate it soon with all the attention and the shoving down your throat acclaim it's going to get so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I still stand by my opinion that Zoe Saldana deserved at LEAST a nomination for either Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress. I mean she did everything the Academy loves give their acting awards out for. The only knock you could possibly give her was she was CGI-ied into the film.

I saw it in theatres in 3-D and enjoyed myself, the effects were fantastic, and the story was okay. However, I definitely didn't think it deserved a Best Picture nomination.
I picked up the Blu Ray last week, but I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet. I'm waiting to see if the movie holds up with out the amazing special effects.

I still stand by my opinion that Zoe Saldana deserved at LEAST a nomination for either Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress. I mean she did everything the Academy loves give their acting awards out for. The only knock you could possibly give her was she was CGI-ied into the film. She did give out the best performance in the film and I constantly thought about it when I watched the movie. I'm not sure if she should be nominated because every year I only see about 0 or 1 or 2 or 3 movies if I'm lucky movies during the Best Actresses categories and the fact she is completely CGI for most part minus the voice and possible evaluated facial expressions. But then again I have been hearing on how there is a disturbing increasing trend of CGI being used to evaluate actors facial expressions lately or create tear effects and I know this because I have studied and can do 3D animation. I heard Blood Diamond was really guilty of this. Also Bullocks performance was really good but wasn't great so I have a feeling her Oscar was basically Hollywood thanking her all the money she brought to Hollywood and is given the whole Julia Roberts 2000 treatment. So really I don't know but maybe create a best voice performance category or something then or actor in a animated movie?

Nothing about it screamed "must see", so I didn't bother with it. Might bother with a DVD, though, not sure.

I actually quite liked it, and I don't like many movies nowadays. It just seemed special to me for some reason.

Great big yay, and I have to say that I came into it thinking that there wasn't going to be much to it - it's true, really did seem like a big deal.

The CGI was amazing. The movie was visually stunning from the getgo. It's just the story and characters were all so paper-thin. The bad guys were all bad, and the good guys were all good, and the dialogue sounds like it was written by a 12 year old in spots.

Wouldn't bother buying it on DVD, but it was an alright flick to go see at the pictures. The only reason it was so hyped was the special effects and I don't really like the guy who plays Jake Sully.

It's a movie designed for cinema viewing. Seeing DVD wouldn't be the same.

I loved the hell out of this movie and I'm gonna get it on DVD and Blu Ray as an incentive to upgrade.

I loved the hell out of this movie as well. I honestly think people nit-picked it to death because it was a James Cameron movie with a uber-budget that some people wanted to see fail. The story isn't any worse than your average movie and the dialogue isn't god-awful. Is it Citizen Kane? No, but it doesn't have to be. It's a tremendous ride of a movie if you let it be and aren't looking for reasons to hate it. When I saw it in theaters, I didn't even realize it was almost a 3 hour movie when it was over. That's pretty impressive.

It wasnt bad. Nothing overly spectacular, in my opinion, but decent. The 3D effects were really cool, as were the special effects in general. But honestly, if it wasnt for my wife really liking it, I wouldnt buy it.

It was good. Was it great? I dunno, I'll have to see how it holds up over later viewings, but I enjoyed myself.
