I say yay. But if you're a DVD snob you may wanna wait for the special edition release of it. Both current releases are bare bones. I did not know this until well after the purchase, but hey.

Then either the winter season is undersaturated or the summer is oversaturated, but movies can break out in summer as they could in winter (Dark Knight). Yes, movies can break out in summer. A lot of movies gross a lot during the summer, it's more common. No one ever said they couldn't, that's the point of the season. Releasing this movie in June, where you're not dealing with Up and Star Trek but will deal with Transformers 2, Ice Age 3, Harry Potter 6, G-Force, then G.I. Joe, District 9 and Inglorious Basterds the next month would have influenced how much money it made. School is out, kids days are free and kids go to satisfy their lust for violence and explosions during the day. It's a good time to have a blockbuster, because you might have competition, but if you can draw people in, you can at least have one huge weekend. In December, mostly it's Oscar season, you have movies that aren't expected to be huge blockbusters but studios release because they want them to be visible and not lost in the shuffle. You seem to be taking this as me saying that Avatar wasn't good and everyone hated it. I'm not, far from it. Whether a movie is good is dependent solely on your personal tastes, and it's obvious that a lot of people like the movie. Trying to point that out is moot.

I'm not taking that. I'm frustrated that everybody seems to think the summer is the optimal release time. Its not. Alice in Wonderland did over 300 mil in Spring, Dragon will get most of what it does (225 mil?) before Summer, and there will probably be at least one major fall breakout. I don't like how studios use Spring/Fall as "dump months" and hate how multiple releases (some even on the same week!) are logjammed into Summer. Its an oversaturated market and its asking for trouble.

They're not releasing them more in summer just because they threw a dart and decided what season they would cram all their blockbusters in. Transformers 2 did $159 million in 3 days. Not over a run, in one weekend. Harry Potter 6 did $112 in 3 days. And you know what, there's going to be a few summer blockbusters this year that gross a more than Alice and Dragon did in two weekends.
But that's a different discussion for a different thread. This thread is about whether people would recommend Avatar on DVD.

I would say that in a couple of weeks, IRON MAN 2 is going to prove your point VERY nicely. ;D As for AVATAR....I have not one single doubt that Cameron is going to release an ultra super duper uber ultimate Edition just in time for Christmas this year....so personally, I think I would wait it out. If nothing else, waiting that long would almost guarantee a price cut on this version of the DVD/BR.
