the opposite to Mr Wonka's thread.
2008 was horrible. 1997 was bad. 1994 was like A Tale of Two Cities: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." 1990 wasn't so great.

I'll go with 2009 because of my Grandmother passing away.

2006 no doubt. My Dad died that year, on that f***ing may 19th of all days. I've decided my best years are behind me, not speaking like an old timer who can't cut it anymore, but I'm just not gonna be satisfied with anything else that comes down the line from here on out. I can pretty much guarantee it.

Whichever years I was in middle school. Brutal times. This. I was never bullied so I am luckier than a lot of kids, but I was still a social outcast and that freakin' sucks Ah well though, I got through it so I'm good.

Have to say 2009. Not just in the it's so recent and everything current sucks kind of way, but just everything went wrong.
My mom lost her job early in the year and was unemployed pretty much the whole rest of the way and I had to handle all the bills to keep everything afloat. That was just the main reason, there were still many other smaller things that made it bad as well, but it took a little bit into 2010, but it looks like things are kind of getting back to normal now, thank God.

1997 and 2007 were definite lowpoints for me.

Tie between 2004 (grandmother passing away) and 2008 (parents divorce and mother tries to drive wedge between us brothers, effectively estranging her for almost a full year).

I'd 1997 and 1998 were both horrible.

1999 bleeding into 2000. I was working in a job that I wasn't crazy about, and a girl that I really cared about lost her apartment, a good portion of her belongings, and then she found out she had contracted HIV from her scumbag boyfriend, which led to a lot of pain between me and her until she finally left town...with him. It pretty much crushed my soul, but it did get me out of the town I was living in, because I couldn't stand the idea that all of my friends were leaving town and I had to deal with the memory of her haunting the town. Of course, there is a happy ending to this. It wasn't until years later when I got an email from her on Myspace and we reestablished contact with each other. It turns out, the guy had told her he tested positive for HIV and that he had given it to her as a way to keep her around. She went through a lot of crap, and finally he left her and she found out she wasn't HIV positive shortly after that. She went into Americorps and turned her life around, and is now engaged to an awesome guy (not me, sadly ) and just finished up going back to school to become a teacher.

2008 My dad gets laid off for a about three months, then has to get two tumors removed from his neck, which in turn made his miss even more work. We had to get a loan from my mom's workplace and from my grandmother And finally my grandmother(the same one that gave us the loan) dies ten days before Christmas.

Fall 2008 - Fall 2009. A complete nightmare for my family and I.
-My father got very sick, lost his job and is now unable to work (His own damn fault) -My grandma got sick and spent almost two full months in the hospital -My brother broke his leg during a baseball game sliding into second base -Mom was temping at a law firm and it took FOREVER for her to get hired full time.....which lead to us having MORE money issues -House went into foreclosure and we almost lost it. (Thanks to my jerkoff father) -I lost my job right before Thanksgiving of last year
As stupid as it might sound, The Yankees winning the World Series was the happiest i'd been during that time period. Sports just seems to be my only escape.
Everything is a little better, now.....but we still got a long way to go.

1999... I went to a new high school and i got bullied by a lot of people, even my friends (the classic ones that cheers you in front and stabs you in the back) and even when i would defend myself, still its makes me sad to picture me crying and beating my classmates for an unfunny joke at my expense. At least my grades were good enough to change myself to another high school, but i still have some scars about that year. My mind can't remember the whole year, although I can remember when i went to Florida (and Disney).

2007, for reasons I won't get into.
Honestly, if the person I was then was still the person I am now, I would not deserve to live.
