Hear me out. I've been thinking alot about this and I've come to the decision. Chris Jericho is overrated. Yep, I'm apart of the IWC and I said those exact words. Chris Jericho is like the king of the IWC, along with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk. Don't get me wrong, Chris Jericho is a fantastic wrestler, but he's just not as good as the internet make him out to be.
His current gimmick is stale, I hate his current look, and I can't say I'm extremely enjoying him feuding with Edge, like I thought I would be. I like Jericho, and I'm happy he has the world title, I hope he gets a long reign and goes up against a few up and comers like Morrison or even R-Truth. Looking back at the list of "big wrestlers", Chris Jericho wouldn't be on it. He would be in the same list as Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero for me. He would be high on the "wrestling ability" list, but when it comes to star-power, he's not that big. He's not in the league of Triple H, Batista, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, The Rock... you know, those guys. Everytime he won the world title, it was a transitional reign. He lost it back to Triple H, John Cena, Batista all when they returned from injury and now, it looks like the same thing will be happening to Wrestlemania, with Edge.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is... he is a transitional champion and not as big or brilliant as the internet make him out to be. Agree?

The reason he is an IWC darling is because of his ability. Of course in the WWE you don't get to even really show 1/4 of your entire moveset most of the time.
He is held in high regard for his ability to tell a story in a match, to be convincing in the ring, and because of the little things he does.
His character has become a bit stale, but it's been 2 years, so it's to be expected. He isn't up there with Austin, or Hogan, but he was never supposed to be. He was not made to be the WWE's "chosen one". He was meant to be one of their signature faces however, much like a Kurt Angle, who always delivered when they were needed.
His look much better suits his gimmick and while at first I didn't like it, it is now second nature to me.
In the end it all comes down to what you can do in the ring and out of it. Jericho does both well because he is a believable character at both. He is the WWE's go to guy for any feud because he does so well at getting heat and working a match with virtually anyone.

I loved him in WCW in the 90's. Since he went to the WWF/E I was never too into him.

If his gimmick is stale, how come at a recent house show, he got so much heat, people were throwing beer bottles at him. He's been attacked, had glowsticks thrown at him, etc. In an age where everything is exposed, he's getting the kind of heat people got back in the 70s and 80s. The only difference is, his life hasn't been threatened yet.
Forgot what people make him out to be. The heat he generates is ridiculous, and that has to mean something.

So a guy who always gets a huge reaction as face or heel, is one of the best workers in the WWE today, is a four time world champion, and has charisma coming out the wazoo is overrated?

With how much wrestling we get on TV today, who isn't stale? Jericho has been on Raw and Smackdown for so long, his character has been overexposed. But he's still been putting on great matches with just about everyone. As for his feud with Edge not clicking, a lot of people hyped this before we even got to see anything because of the fanbase both wrestlers have online, but as we've found out, Edge as a face doesn't work. Just like it didn't work in 2004.

First with the make-believe rock star gimmick he was doing prior to his departure, and now with his current gimmick, which is perhaps the most boring in wrestling history. He's a piss break for me.
Give me over-the-top Jericho or give me no Jericho at all.

but as we've found out, Edge as a face doesn't work. Just like it didn't work in 2004. Going to disagree for the same reason people have brought up here, which I completely agree with, of Jericho's heat being off the charts. Edge is just like that. Every time I've watched of late and Edge has been on, the pop he's got has been absolutely huge. That makes him someone who works as a face, in my books. I don't think his run as a face will last for a long time, because he's so much better as a heel, that said. I think he'll have a run similar to HHH's when he returned at the Rumble in 2002 after a long time away from the ring. He's doing a face run now because the fans are so happy to see him again, that they won't boo him no matter what he does. And if you've got that much face heat, you must work as a face, even if only for brief bursts. |

See, if this was say... The Miz, that was getting the beer bottles thrown at him, it would be "X-Pac heat", I just think the internet is pretty biased when it comes to Chris Jericho. Just my opinion, I'm not doubting the man's ability, he is a fantastic wrestler, but I wouldn't say he's the best in the WWE today. I care about alot more than the matches, his current "schtick" is boring me.

I like Jericho because he's not really bad at anything. He can go out and have a random match with no buildup, and it'll be at least semi decent. He can talk it up in a suit without any physical interaction, and it'll work. He can move along a feud, and it'll make sense.
He's not really the best at any one thing (though that's arguable, since he might be the best in the E at the moment at getting the crowd to boo him when he pics up a mic for an in ring promo), but he's pretty good at everything.
