www.latimes.com/news/la-adenhartcase31-m,0,6630493.story?track=rss The man accused of killing Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart wants his trial moved from Orange County, citing that he won't get a fair trial. Right, because you stand a chance of getting off for driving with a BAC of .19, T-boning another vehicle, and killing 3 people whil injuring the fourth passenger severely. That trial could be held on Jupiter and it will have the same result. Well, he may be guilty, but he is actually correct. Every citizen is provided the right to a fair trail and there is no way that he gets it there. The only problem is that it's a nationally known case. It might be hard to find a venue that hasn't been polluted. That said, usually these kinds of motions aren't a huge deal for prosecutions, especially when the facts are heavily in their favor. It usually only matters if the crime was very specific to the community.

::::Sigh::::
Phils lose again. They scored 3 runs, but played awful defense. Charlie Manuel even got ejected to try and wake them up, but their heads are so far up their asses right now I'm not sure what will turn them around.
I know they'll come out of it sooner than later, maybe getting Rollins back next week will kick start them.

Dear Lou Pinella....as of right now i would be much more comfortable with Greg Maddux managing this team despite him having ZERO managing experience...Lou your a great baseball type of guy, but ive noticed/everybody in the media has noticed...you just seem to be mailing it in this year. Aramis should be put on the DL TONIGHT!! and Chad Tracy be brought up.
I understand that Lee and Aramis are the two power guys, and thats fine....you have a 160 hitter batting cleanup with a .220 hitter batting third and you play them mostly every day because you feel they will snap out of it....meanwhile, Theriot has TWO BAD GAMES and Lou says to the media " I doesn't know when he will play again" The he double switches and takes Fontenot out and who comes in Theriot....
Byrd is slumping. He's hit .167 in the last 2 wks and only .247 in the last 28 days. He can't take a day off here and there to play Colvin ? Or does Lou not know he is slumping? as it took David Kaplan to point out that Theriot only had 1 walk this month to Lou during a postgame....

ive noticed/everybody in the media has noticed...you just seem to be mailing it in this year. Silliest thing I keep hearing. He's tried just about everything. But the simple fact is, if Lee and Ramirez don't hit, then the team shouldn't bother playing the rest of the year. They won't win without those two guys. Lou has no control over roster moves. Jim Hendry decides who goes on the DL or moves up/down. Lou can make suggestions/tell him what he needs. And also, if a player claims he doesn't need to go on the DL, then they can't DL him against his will. He can file a grievance. I covered this last night, very clearly, about Derrek Lee. Look at what he is actually doing, as opposed to what the defenders are doing. Lee can only control whether or not he swings, and to some extent the quality of contact he makes. He has no control over where defensive players are positioned. But to sum it up again: a) Lee hit .205 in April / .265 in May b) his line drive % was 14.9% in April / 30% in May c) his career Batting Average on GB is .250, but only .196 in 2010 d) his career Batting Average on FB is .279, but only .214 in 2010 e) his career Batting Average on LD is .772, but only .647 in 2010 f) his career and 2010 strikeout and walk numbers are similar, leaving contact as the issue Ryan Theriot has hit under .192/.213/.192 over the last 21 days. There are two, and only two, factors that go into making a double switch. The first is to find the most advantageous rearrangement of the batting order. The second is to use the opportunity for making a defensive change. Ryan Theriot did not, in fact, replace Mike Fontenot. Theriot is a superior defender at second than Fontenot, and it isn't all that close. But Fontenot, however, remained in the game, shifting over to third base. Ramirez had made the second-to-last out of the 8th, which made him an offensive non-factor. Fontenot, while possessing less arm than Aramis, does have more range and speed, which is necessary in one-run games. Putting Theriot in at the 9-spot in the order, likewise, maximized run potential for the team in the top of the 9th. The order had Soriano-Soto-Castro coming up. Colvin had been saved for such an opportunity as facing Dotel, thus replacing Soto. Theriot is the kind of low-strikeout, high-contact hitter (11 K in 139 May PA) who is good for opposite-field singles. Had anyone ahead of him reached second base, a Theriot single to right would have challenged Garrett Jones' glove and arm, plus Ryan Doumit's defense. This, I agree with. Byrd struggles against right-handers, while Colvin is a lefty batter. Byrd, like other veteran players, plays through slumps. That how these things work. And it is very difficult to take one of 2010's top outfielders out of the lineup. But yes, Colvin should be getting at least one start from Byrd during the week. The three/week they hoped for out of camp clearly is not an option. Soriano has played much too well to sit more than once every other week. And Fukudome is, as of right now, the only leadoff man on the team (unless you want to go all Scott Hatteberg on the north side with Geo's slow ass). Colvin can get 2 starts, tops, plus 2-3 late-inning insertions. Managers manage in different ways. Between Lou and Jaramillo, they have generally stressed aggressiveness in the non-power hitters. Far too many called third strikes and out-of-the-zone third swinging strikes have plagued the Cubs. And for the first month, the approach clearly had helped everyone but Lee and Ramirez, whose 10-year tendencies have been more patient. Soriano, though, is much more patient and discerning. I think that the minutiae numbers aren't as important to old school Lou, and they never really have been. They should be, but walks aren't a huge part of Lou's philosophy. The team he won the Series with in 90, nobody had more than 61 walks. On his 116-win SEA team, Olerud and Edgar broke 90, but he generally had more swingers. Other than D Lee, no one on the 2007 Cubs broke 60 walks. In 2008, they were much more patient as a team (Kosuke replacing Jacque Jones helped). Only Lee and Kosuke cracked 70 in 2009. --------------------------- The other wild card right now is the health of Jeff Baker. Do they want to disable him as a precautionary measure to make sure it's just ocular migraines or whatever that blinded him? Because if so, then they have to make that roster decision, as well. And at that point, they again have to choose Bobby Scales (.268/.399/.409) or Darwin Barney (.305/.329/.384). Tracy (.424/.465/.606) is the response to a Ramirez move, and probably one that should be made soon. It is killing the team to have Ramirez in there flailing and wincing. And if they decide Colvin can't get enough PAs up here and send him down to Iowa, they'll be bringing up OF James Adduci (.272/.327/.325). Pretty much looks like a lefty Ryan Theriot. There is an outside chance they'd call on career MiLBer Brad Snyder (.305/.383/.578), who is to CF what Jake Fox was to 3B ("yeah, sure I can play it!"). And for the curious, Micah Hoffpauir's line this year is .196/.318/.350 in 163 AB. But promisingly, for those of me who are getting tired of Senor Zombie Hand's Mendoza flirtation behind the plate, supposed defensive whiz-kid Welington Castillo is this/close to .250: .244/.319/.549 with 5 2B, 6 HR and 24 RBI in 82 AB. Minor league numbers are minor, but they can be indicative.

It's 16-6 Padres right now over the Mets. In the 7th inning. Edit: Now 17-6. Ollie sucks & Jerry Manuel is God-awful, so I'm hoping the Padres get to 25 runs.

Well, the Mets got the shit kicked out of them tonight by the Padres, losing by a final score of 18-6. Before I get negative, I should mention that David Wright went 2-3 with a BB & SB, Jose Reyes hit a 2-run triple, and "1 inning only" Jennry Mejia pitched well(he's the only one who didn't allow a run). Now onto the horrendous. Hisanori Takahashi had been good going into this game(2.93 K:BB ratio, 2.13 ERA), but tonight wasn't one of those nights: 4 IP, 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR on 69 pitches. After Tak was pulled, in came Raul Valdes & he was something awful himself: 0 IP, 2 hits, 4 runs, 3 BB. "Luckily," Jennry Mejia cleaned up the mess. I quoted luckily because in Jerry Manuel's mind, Mejia not allowing any runs in a mop-up role is reason to keep him in the bullpen. At this point, it's beyond absurd to have your top pitching prospect wasting his time sitting in the bullpen. I'm admittedly beating a dead horse, but the lack of common sense & logic used by the Mets organization is stunning & extremely frustrating. Not finished with the stupidity, Jerry Manuel pulled Mejia for Ryota Igarashi, who has struggled since coming off the DL, had appeared in 2 games in Milwaukee, & warmed up yesterday when the Mets were winning 10-4. So what did he do: 0.1 IP, 4 hits, 6 runs, 2 BB on 28 pitches. And finally, the most hated man in Met-Land Oliver Perez came in to close it out. He won't go down to the minors at the Mets's request, so he'll be mopping up when Manuel has finished with the other arms in the bullpen. What did Ollie do: 2.2 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR. What is hard to fathom is that Manuel had Fernando Nieve warming up in the 8th inning, down 18-6! Keep in mind that Nieve is 3rd in MLB in appearances & actually started a game on Saturday. Mike Pelfrey starts tomorrow, & I'm hoping he can go at least 8 innings, because the Mets bullpen has been extremely overworked by Jerry Manuel. Here's a graph indicating the amount of relief appearances per game by Justin Bopp of "Beyond The Box Score." Unsurprisingly, the Mets & Dodgers are leading the league.

Jerry finally realized Nieve was in too many games so now it's time for Igarashi to take his place Also, nice job saying you'd never use Ollie and then 2 days later, you have to use him

After Roy Halladay's perfect game and the BS of Philadelphia getting three extra home games, anymore Phillie fans want to complain about Toronto ripping you guys off in that trade? Because you dont have a leg to stand on right now. If anything, Toronto should be complaining because you and Major League Baseball are ripping us off and until this is changed (which at this point wont happen), any wins you have against us will be tainted and should recieve an asterisk.
