I've always been a fan of monster movies from back in the day when they had wacky hosts to introduce them. It made b-grade dreck that much more fun. I grew up watching Elvira from time to time as a kid, when she had her syndicated show, but there were many others before her, entertaining and sometimes scaring kids witless. Trailblazers like Vampira (who many claim Elvira found more than a little inspiration from), Zacherley, Count Gore De Vor, The Ghoul, and countless others, each one claiming domain over certain territories. So show your love and appreciation for the heroes of horror, the sultans of scares, and the forefathers and mothers of fright!

Does Joe Bob Briggs count? He was pretty funny whenever I'd flick over to TNT's "Monstervision".

Joe Bob was actually kind of a throwback to hosts that didn't have a monster gimmick back in the 50's, when people were still working it out. But of course, he had his own thing going, which absolutely worked for him. I really wish TNT would bring back Monstervision as a late-night thing.

They still have people that use these gimmicks. The Wolfman Mac show on RTV is one.

I actually grew up at a time when this format was going out of style. So the closest I grew up with was Mystery Science Theater 3000. Now I wouldn't classify as a "Monster Movie Host" show it's the closest I could think of since Elvira wasn't on when I was a kid and although I did watch Monstervision I don't remember the host.

Again, Joe Bob Briggs. Here's him talking about the King King remake from 76.

I wish they'd make a comeback, I miss watching late TV on friday nights and seeing cheesy horror flicks complete with host.
It was because of Dr Terror and Late friday horror flicks I found "Phantasm" when I was a kid

Man, Joe Bob was my idol all through high school when he was on TNT. Had SO much fun watching him. Also watched Elvira when I was a little one.
My dad grew watching Zacherley in NYC so I got to see tapes of his stuff much later on.
And lately I've gotten into Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive-In on Retro Television Network (fun show!) and (Son of) Svengoolie. Wish he wasn't just broadcast in Chicago. I think he's one of the best.
There's a pretty good documentary about horror hosts called American Scary. Missing quite a few elements but I'm being picky, overall a good dvd.

This is a job I would audition for IMMEDIATELY if I found out one of the stations in my town was planning on doing this. I would do it like Captain USA, just me being a sarcastic twit.

The Bay Area had the great Bob Wilkins on Creature Features on KTVU channel. He smoked a giant cigar and some of the worst old school monster movies. He also did an afternoon kids show that showed Ultraman and other knock off Japanese shows. RIP Bob.

Count Gregore is a legendary monster movie host here in Oklahoma. Hell he's also one of the oldest, been hosting since like 1958.
We also have a cable access show in a near by town that has a whole cast of hosts, and they show some of the cheesiest flicks around simply cause they are the only ones they can get the rights to.

This is something I'd like to try my hand at. I might suck at it, but it would be cool to try. And someone definitely needs to bring it back.
My mom has talked about growing up in Michigan and watching movies hosted by "Christopher Coffin." The standout was Vincent Price in "The Tingler."

Love horror hosts. Got started back during Elvira's show with such classics as The Mighty Gorga, Meateater and Zombie Child. First became aware of Zacherle/Zacherly when he hosted a videotape of bad movie trailers/scenes called Horrible Horror.
About 10 years back, one of the local stations showed some then-recent show called Off Beat Cinema, hosted by a group of beatniks. Only caught a couple of eps, but was fun to harken back to the days.

The Misfits were alright horror hosts....DOYLE TALKS!!! I'm not sure why the didn't keep rolling with this. I'm surprised Jerry hasn't resurrected the idea.

i think later in life Jerry might come back to it...maybe release dvd only episode's as im not sure what tv stations would really pick up the show. i think him and Dez would be cool hosts as when i had spoken to dez countless times he really really knows his stuff about horror films.

I kind of figured they'd do dvd releases once they started up the label. Maybe you're right and they'll come back around to it. Hell, I'm down. I'll buy that a lot sooner than I'll buy a Misfits shirt for my dog.
