Bob Dylan is the poster boy for this thread. During the 60s he wrote basically every hit song that didn't belong the Beach Boys, or the Beatles. You can also add Neil Diamon and Smokey Robinson to the list

"Hard to Handle" by The Black Crowes was Otis Redding's last hit.

bob dylan. i didn't know that about the zeppelin song that was mentioned. thats one of my favourites by them. Guess I should added a winking smiley or something.............I was just being a smartass. He's Dylan and he spits hot fire. My answer for the topic is Love Buzz by Nirvana which was a Shocking Blue song. I have never heard of Skocking Blue. The other was also a Nirvana cover White Lace and Strange and it was originally by Thunder & Roses who I had also never heard of.

OUCH! His only hit wasn't even his? Yeah because Millennium and Angel weren't hits. I believe he meant Billy Ray Cyrus.

Yeah because Millennium and Angel weren't hits. I believe he meant Billy Ray Cyrus. Even then it wouldn't be true, as he had quite a few hits.

When I first heard them, I had no idea that 10,000 Maniacs' "Because the Night" and the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide" were covers. The Smashing Pumpkins also do a great cover of Landslide

A little side note I don't know how true it is but it was once said that Radiohead's Creep is one of the most covered songs in rock music. I think it was Moby who said it before he covered it live on one of the late night talk shows.

The song was initially to be recorded by The Oak Ridge Boys in the early 1990s but the group decided against recording it after lead singer Duane Allen said that he did not like the words "achy breaky". It was then recorded in 1991 under the title "Don't Tell My Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus on his debut album Some Gave All in 1992.
It's not a cover.

I didn't realize until recently that "California Sun" by the Ramones was a cover. I also thought "I Don't Want To Grow Up" was a Ramones original.
And, I thought "The First Cut Is the Deepest "was a Sheryl Crow song.

come on feel the noise by quiet riot was also a cover You mean Cum on Feel the Noize That's a cultural one really, everyone in England grew up hearing a few Slade songs, they were massive in the 70s, and you still hear them every single Christmas about 1000 times. Anyway, for another one to add: 'It Must be Love' by Madness. Didn't realise that even though they have the original singer in the video, I thought he was just someone famous I didn't know about making a cameo.

I think it was Moby who said it before he covered it live on one of the late night talk shows. Most covered song ever is 'Yesterday' by The Beatles. Oddly enough their second most covered song is 'Something,' which is amusing considering how many hits are by Lennon or Macca.

'Spirit in the Sky' was first recorded by The Attack, but Jeff Beck's version charted first. 'Heard it through the Grapevine' was originally recorded by Gladys Knight and the Pips, but most people would call it a Marvin Gaye song. I've also heard people call 'Without You' a Mariah Carey song which makes me want to vomit. I've also also also heard people call it a Harry Nilsson song... also makes me want to vomit.

Sinatra covered "Something" and always credited it to Lennon and Mc Cartney, but it's actually a George song.
