Have been listening to a lot of music on youtube recently, and was shocked to discover that my dad's favourite song of all time, "Go Now" by the Moody Blues, is actually a cover - he didn't know, I didn't know, and I'll be damned if the original is just as good as the cover.
Any songs you love that you were shocked to discover weren't originally made by the people you thought.

Yeah, that was my second - didn't know about Gloria Jones for years, and was amazed. Also, oddly, her version of "Go Now" is also towering.

Never realised this was a cover until my Pre-Prod tutor played it to us.
Also, I want to go back in time and do dirty things to 70's Debbie Harry.
Completely nerdy note: I love how the bassist and the guitarist that's playing the Rickenbacker aren't even trying to play the right notes.

I'm always stunned when I come across something I've heard for a long time by one band and then see it was a cover.
Testament did this a lot to me, I really had no idea that they were so into 70's rock/metal given how many things they've covered, tho' in retrospect it makes sense since being an 80's trash band they'd be heavily influenced by the heavy stuff that come from the 70's.
Original 1976
Cover 1988
Off hand I had no idea Aerosmith was that heavy back in the day.

Didn't know until a few days ago that "The Tide is High" was actually a song by a legit reggae band first:

I was shocked to find out "Respect" is an Otis Redding song, rather than an Aretha Franklin song.

I'm always alarmed at how many people who claim to know classic rock inside and out don't realize that All Along the Watchtower was originally written and recorded by Dylan. For certain, Hendrix went and made it his own in many ways, but I wasn't aware that was such an unknown factor.

"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" by Led Zeppelin. It was originally written and performed by Anne Bredon. Joan Baez later released a cover, and Led Zeppelin decided to cover the song after hearing Baez's version.

Who's Dylan? ------------ Aerosmith did a ton of covers, they wound up being some of their lesser known songs, but they are still covers. Cry Me a River originally done by Julie London. Or how about "Let the Music Do the Talking", which is actually a cover of a Joe Perry Project tune, "Let the Music Do the Talking". I think it counts as a cover, the Project did it first and released it. Tyler rewrote some lyrics before Aerosmith did their version.
