I can't tell whether this is supposed to be satire or just fantasizing.

I'm sure someday we'll get a Star Wars reboot but it may take about 20-30 years.
I'd love to have seen a Star Wars film by Cameron or David Fincher (who would have been perfect for Revenge Of The Sith).

So If I was to reboot Star Wars today it would be :
Written and Directed by Peter Jackson
Starring:
Anton Yelchin as Luke Skywalker Sharlto Copley as Han Solo Emma Stone as Princess Leia Morgan Freeman as Obi-Wan Kenobi Laurance Fishburne as Darth Vader
now to defend my choices. First Anton Yelchin he has proved to be a very strong actor and and very, very good performances in Charlie Bartlett, Star Trek and Terminator Salvation. In fact in Salvation he did a far better job in it than Bale. Also with that movie he shows he can do action especially the type of stuff needed to be Luke Skywalker. One of the few ones from this article I agree with. With Han Solo you need a guy that could come off as sorta cool while looking like an idiot at times and Copley is good at that. Now with Leia you need someone who is hot but also able to step in and take people out as well. Also you need someone who could first come off like a bitch and become more likable as the movie goes on. I can't see this from the girl from Alice in Wonderland, also I hated that movie so that may be clouding my judgment. Obviously basing my pick off Zombieland where she did this well.
With Obi-Wan you need a truly amazing aged actor that guides Luke to become a Jedi. No one in my mind could do this better than Morgan Freeman in my opinion he just has this presence about him that would be perfect, Micheal Caine would be a good alternative but I don't think he'd be as good, probably, yeah Caine would be better for C-3P0.
Now with the last character the main protagonist. Very difficult pick as you never actually see Darth Vader so it has to come down to voice and someone who could act ferocious at time yet calm. So my pick has to be Laurence Fishburne. As in The Matrix he can be very calm and coerce you into joing with him but in other roles, like Othello he shows anger that could seep through in his playing of Vader. Probably Vader would be CGI'D played by Andy Serkis.
Also I picked Peter Jackson to write and Direct because as King Kong and Lord of the Rings proved he could handle the stuggles of a bigger than life epic and make it interesting. Also I feel he would make "A New Hope" a much better movie than Lucas did.
Okay awaiting molotov cocktails thrown at me.

Not gonna lie. I'd be at the theater on Day #1 if that actually happens, and I'm not even that big of a Star Wars fan.

I can't tell whether this is supposed to be satire or just fantasizing. Just fantasizing for the most part, although some stuff was obviously meant to be funny, like Bale as Chewbacca.

Believe me, if George Lucas didn't have complete control over the franchise and Fox did, Star Wars would have already been remade by now, and like every damn remake that Hollywood has crapped out in the past decade, it would probably suck.

Please no reboot George. Just let Star Wars go. You've done enough damage.

Couldn't have typed it better myself. Star Wars is what it is, nowadays they do remakes as an excuse to make some big money and blow most of it on cgi and more special effects

I don't care how great the talent is. If this ever happens, I'm done with movies.
If they want to reboot it, set it 1000 years after SW and create a new scenario and new characters.

If a studio and not Lucas himself owned Star Wars, it probably would've happened by now. Fortunately that isn't the case. I have a feeling a reboot would make the prequels look like The Godfather by comparison.

I don't think this would do well. I somehow get the feeling that unlike others, this would be like doing so with The Bible.

How is old Ben now Black? Well he was originally suppose to be played by Toshiro Mifune. Probably that's why he had the Asiatic sounding name. So it's not to out there that he could be played by Freeman/Washington, to me it doesn't matter the ethnicity of the actor, more the stature and needs to be played by someone where you feel he is a wise teacher. Thats why Alec Guiness was so awesome, because he come off as so important, which for some reason or another Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson didn't come off like that at all, although it might have been the writing than Neeson as he was awesome in a similar role in Batman Begins. That's why if they ever do a reboot they need someone who could pull off Obi-Wan as someone who is an unquestioned master, probably the toughest character to cast and the most important.
