Must every WWE program air some ridiculous Johnny Cash video promo about this match? At first it was like, "Oh Sweet, nice little promotional video there..." but now it is played almost EVERY commercial break. I'm sick of it.
Then there's the non-commercial build-up, or lack thereof. One promo, then Taker's face pops up on the tron, then two tag teams are pwnt, and then they pull the HBK is gunna Superkick you when you're not looking schtick like they did last year.
They have a match with a man's career on the line and they haven't even given any focus or attention to just how big of a deal Shawn Michaels' career really is. Apparently this streak means much more than Shawn Michaels.
Playing one video over and over and over for such a high stakes match is a really REALLY annoying way to build it up. It's as if they can't think of anything else to do because they did it all last year. Plus, the second Shawn's challenge was accepted, his desperate character and personality seemed to disappear completely, and now IMO Shawn is bland as all hell.
I was initially interested in seeing this match, but because of this awful, awful build, I really couldn't care less about it anymore.
They have one week to change my mind.

Thank you. At first, the video seemed cool, now it's like an annoying commercial.
IMO, I don't care who loses: Taker or Shawn. Besides, if Shawn loses, he'll come back at Summer Slam along with Taker as HBK will team up with HHH to reform DX for the umpteenth time. Nothing special.

Not NEARLY as annoying as "You deserve to be screwed!" and MapleSyrupMan's mumblecore acting stinking up RAW week after week. At least HBK/Taker has some logical reason, since they can both still wrestle.

I don't know why Shawn hasn't gotten the hype he deserves. It's just the streak & nothing else. It hasn't ruined the match for me, but they could focus on the real story, a career on the line.

This has become very much like the "My Way" video before Wrestlemania X7. You're almost waiting for WM just so you don't have to see the video again.
And as I've stated in previous threads, the billing of this as the "biggest match in Wrestlemania history" is just pathetic.

Yeah, the build's getting annoying for a match that won't really matter in the long run, anyways. As many people have pointed out recently, if Shawn loses, he'll just be back in time for the next "one night only" 6 month DX run, and if Taker loses.....well, so what? It's an undefeated streak in a worked sport. It doesn't matter in the slightest.

Yea, the buildup is getting EXTREMELY irritating. Same s*** four times a week is not buildup. It's practically anti-buildup.
But, I did love one thing about this whole thing, and that was Stone Cold's view on it. "Can you beat him? Yea.....but you won't."

Maybe they figure last year's match was so good that the rematch pretty much sells itself?

Maybe they figure last year's match was so good that the rematch pretty much sells itself? Honestly, the reason I think they're even bothering to do this is that when they first began to build this, Mania was looked pretty awful so they were hoping for another bailout. Granted, I have no hopes for this actually being good. Taker hasn't had a good match since the one with Shelton Benjamin like three weeks after last year's match.

I still think the "Running Up That Hill" promo they ran just before the match was made official is leaps and bounds above the current Johnny Cash segment. For one, it had much more emphasis on the interesting part of the match, which is Shawn Michaels' obsession with Taker's streak, but I think it was just a more technically and viscerally pleasing promo.
In terms of the match build-up, I do agree it's been lacking. We'll just have to see what happens next week on Smackdown to try and get us out of our hype apathy. Regardless, I believe the actual match will live up to expectations and make up for the lack of build-up.

Because if so, then I agree with you that that one was better.

If any build is getting worn out, it is Jericho vs Edge

I feels like the only true risk being built up is on Undertaker's side.

Like I said before they need to use this for the last promo.
And put something in it like "The Streak or a man's career. One will end. The end is here."

They have a match with a man's career on the line and they haven't even given any focus or attention to just how big of a deal Shawn Michaels' career really is. Apparently this streak means much more than Shawn Michaels. This is the problem I have. Shawn Michaels has had one of, if not the best career in WWE history, and they're just playing it off as if it's nothing. To be honest, the stipulation of Michaels career should be empathized way more than the streak. While the streak is something that's focused on every singe year, even sometimes more than the Wrestlemania event itself, they should have just one year where the opponents stipulation is more important than the streak, and in this case, it's Michaels.
