Having the same theme song for nearly 20 years.
Being one of the biggest nobodies in the business and working his butt off to be one of the biggest somebodies.
Being one of the biggest jerks in the business and managing to turn that image around. (That I know of anyway.)

Being the biggest example of when people need to mind their own business. (People complaining about his backstage attitude/problems/"politicking" when it's none of their damn business)

Being one of the biggest jerks in the business and managing to turn that image around. (That I know of anyway.) I think this is the ultimate statement on Shawn Michaels. He forced his own career out, and saved his reputation from being a whiny little bitch who had an ego the size of his home state who had talent, to redeeming himself post-2002 becoming in my eyes the best ever.

Being a asshole in the 90's. This, and flopping miserably as the top guy in 1996. This statement drives me crazy... Austin himself would have failed during HBK's run due to the popularity of the NWO angle. HBK happened to have the title when the WWE was rebounding from an embarassing time (94-95) and he hit gold right when the NWO was taking off... WCW was must see tv and HBK suffered because of it... not because of his talent or "flopping."

Whether fair or not, Michaels was the top guy in the WWF at that period and was not able to bring the fight to WCW. More of a booking issue, but these sorts of things tend to fall more on the headlining guy's shoulders - similar to how people will insist that Cena isn't a worthy top guy simply because the WWE isn't still making Attitude Era-level money.

'96 was a major contributor to HBK's 'asshole' rep at the time, as he was busting his ass as champion putting on great matches with everyone he could but WCW was still giving them a kicking. Shawn really took it to heart and developed a serious siege mentality about the whole thing, becoming more outspoken than ever and openly abusive.
No doubt he felt the pressure. At amazing as his matches are in the 90s, it's perhaps not so surprising that he says his 2002-onwards work is a lot more satisfying to him.

Couple things dav... Hogan had already said he would not do another match with Shawn after Summerslam, and that is WHY Shawn did what he did. And why he cut the promo on him the next night. Shawn was willing to put Hogan over, Hogan was not willing to do the same, I don't know how its hard to see who is in the wrong here. And for the "temper tantrum" some would still call it the best match hogan had in a DECADE. Hogan´s match with Rock was way better. HBK was trying to sabatoge the match because Vince wouldnt let him win the match. HBK will always been known as a prick.

It still surprises me that people stick up for Shawn here think its ok for Hogan to politic, but not Shawn.. It's either bias against Hogan Shawn(most likely) or lack of common sense (I hope not). Fixed to represent blatant hypocrisy.

Fixed to represent blatant hypocrisy. I haven't seen anyone really defend Hogan's own politicing here. My major complaint is Shawn bringing it out to the ring and acting in an unprofessional manner. I wouldn't expect it from anyone, including Hogan.

I'm drawing a blank on the 3rd... I know Nash and Sid, but can't recall him having another bodyguard, unless you're counting Triple H?
