I never could stand the guy.
His catchphrases were lame, he couldn't do a promo without them to fall back on, and he was nothing short of abysmal in the ring.

I liked him for a week, then got horribly annoyed by him after that. He was your basic popular bully jock. His moves weren't exciting to me. I especially hated his sharpshooter of pain. He seemed to be more in pain performing the move than the guy in the sharpshooter.

I liked him from when I first saw him (Nation days in early '98). And The Rock's shtick never got old for me, even in 2002.
I liked everything about him in-ring, too. He had 'it' in terms of emotional intensity in the ring, all the way to his comicbook-awesome selling of Stunners.

He's great. The TRUE definition of the word "Superstar." Once he got that ball, he ran with like few others have, and NO ONE could stop him......not even Vince McMahon. (In the sense that he is the one Superstar to truly transcend the wrestling business. Not even Hogan could manage that)

There did come a point about 2001 where I was getting a bit fed up with the same moves again and again.
In 2002 I was extremely annoyed when he took some time off for a movie following Wrestlemania 18 then waltzed back in to WWE in June and won the Undisputed Title only to drop it a month later to Brock and then leave again.
However now he's gone I really appreciate him.
Never got tired of his mic skills though.

He's easily my favorite wrestler along with Eddie Guerrero. Rock made many a terrible Raw in 2002 watchable long after I'd given up on other guys like Jericho and RVD because deep down inside I knew they weren't going anywhere near the top. He was great in the ring and I didn't mind his lack of so-called technical wrestling because if I wanted to watch that, I could watch guys like Benoit for that instead. I never understood why people online complained about his catchphrases because just about every successful wrestler I can think of had at least one catchphrase that they used in most promos. Some say that he was stale, but the crowds I saw in 2001 and 2002 must have disagreed because he was generally getting the biggest reactions out of all the wrestlers on Raw and Smackdown. I was way more annoyed watching Austin after he turned back face in 2002 and seeing HHH dominate the roster for a second time than I ever was by the Rock.
But what made me really like the Rock was that he never seemed to rest on his laurels. He improved year after year even thought he could have easily slacked off like so many in his position did. When he was being locked in tag teams, he always went out there and did his best to entertain. He was a guy who took pride in his job and I'm a sucker for people who fail at first and then go on to excel. So yeah, Rock's like Parker Lewis. He can't lose.

I thought he was pretty boring as a face, at least when he wasn't around Foley. Plus I couldn't really buy anyone that had an elbow drop (one that didn't come off the top rope) as a finisher. But when he came back as Hollywood Rock, I loved him again. He works so much better as a heel. But I can look back now and appreciate the stuff he did as a face...I just didn't like it then.

I never really dug him. I don't like the punch, kick, power move style he did. Rock's promo annoyed me and his fivehead was distracting.

I loved him.
He had so much star quality and charisma he could turn any segment into absolute gold.
He never had a boring match or wrestled in front of a dead crowd. Whenever The Rock wrestled the crowd was always red hot because as someone else pointed out he was the true definition of the word Superstar. I remember the Big Show saying in some interviews that The Rock was the best guy to wrestle because the crowds were always the loudest when The Rock was involved and it was the most fun.
His in-ring skills are hugely underrated and his mic skills unrivalled. Like many others I sort of cooled off on him when he became a bit too nice in 2001-2002, although he was never the boy scout that Cena is.
But then he came back as Hollywood Rock and reminded everyone how awesome he was. He was also a main eventer that would job left and right. Especially in comparison to Austin, HHH or Undertaker. In fact I would imagine Rock did more clean jobs in the 5 or 6 years he was a wrestler that Undertaker has in 20 years.
The Peoples Elbow being stupid was sort of the point. The Rock originally did it to make the boys in the back laugh but it caught on with the fans. The fact he could get 50 000 plus people on their feet for an elbow drop or a raise of an eyebrow shows how amazing The Rock was.

Rock could sometimes get me to fall out of my chair laughing, but he also would have me rolling my eyes with how repetitive he could be. I really hated his "hulk up moveset" culminating in him spitting in his hand slap, spine buster, People's Elbow, Rock Bottom. And I was pretty tired of him turning things sideways and placing them in people's rectums.
But I keep going back to this, as many times as I was bored, the times he broke out of his pattern were completely awesome. He could have a good match, a really funny promo or a really intense promo. So I like him for that.

I didn't really like him. The main reason was seeing how he acted backstage towards Foley during the Beyond The Mat movie. That said, I do own his three-disc DVD set and I'd like nothing more than to see him host RAW this summer....

For a long promo, his promos were pretty much exactly the same, with the order varying slighty on "rudy poo candy ass(es)" "monkey's ass" "monkey's nipple" "candy ass" "know your role" "jabroni" "smackdown hotel" and "IF YA SMELLL......."

All I remember was a small interview with him where he talks about how much the fans are gonna hate him after the I Quit match at the Royal Rumble, which was kind of the point.

I think he's referring to the fact that the Rock never went to see if Foley was alright after the match was over. I think they actually used this for the basis of their mini feud at the end of 1999.

Didn't particularly like The Rock as a face pretty much because he was a (Brahma) bully but I was also a Foley, Triple H, Angle, Snow and Gunn fan so I wasn't particularly rooting for him in fueds. But Hollywood Rock, and (in retrospect) Corporate Rock yes.

If you don't like The Rock. You don't like professional wrestling. If you don't like the Rock you're a communist.
