Wait, wasn't The Rock the "John Cena" of his era? Everybody hated him.

I enjoyed his matches, but felt his mic work got old fast and he was always allowed to bury everyone with his catchphrases, which annoyed me after a while.
Went with dislike, as I disliked the character, but did enjoy his fueds and work in the ring.

I didn't like Rocky Miavia (but then again, who did?), but as soon as he became The Rock and took over the Nation I became a big fan.
Rock's character got pretty tired around 2002 and many fans started booing him (me included), but he was able to pull off a great heel turn and reinvent himself as Hollywood Rock, becoming almost universally praised as a fantastic heel character.
So the Rock, um, rocks. Yeah.

Regardless of how he was booked, his promos ALWAYS made the majority of fans love him. He could've squashed the entire roster in one night and all he'd need to do to make up for it was cut a 5 minute promo. Boom. Instant lovefest. The man got an elbow over. Safe to say people adored him.
There are others I've come across that give Rock no respect. They call him awful in the ring and not that great on the mic. I usually have a "Not Sure if Serious" moment and come to the conclusion that they're insane.

When I started watching as a kid (in about Septemberish of 1998), I absolutely despised both him and Austin. Still don't particularly like seeing either one.
Though I did like Hollywood Rock. About it.

Me. Hate him. Well hate is too strong, while dislike isn't strong enough. Horrid promos and even worse in ring. Good entertainer though. Loved The Rock Concerts and Hurricane stuff but that is it.

Nope, I loved him. Once the Rock 'n Sock connection formed, I was a full-fledged fan.

He was the first heel that I truly liked.
So, yeah, I have a soft spot for the Rock.

My opinion is pretty much the same as Ric's. I didn't like him at all. Whether it was Rocky Maivia,Corporate Rock,The People's Champ,Hollywood Rock, etc. I couldn't stand his matches and didn't like his promos at all. The only time I was even slightly entertained was his banter back and forth with The Hurricane. So yeah,I wasn't a fan.

The only version of him I liked was Hollywood Rock. The other versions I couldn't stand. Horrible, catch phrased laden promos and sub-par in ring skills.

Loved him as a performer. No, he wasn't a technical wizard, but he had charisma in spades. No matter what, I was always cheering for him, even if I couldn't figure out why.

I ran hot and cold with the Rock.
He was enteraining, but sometimes they overused him and I got real tired of him.
But I find this happens for me with any over used talent. I'm all high on Cena when he comes back from a break or injury but after a while he gets pushed too much and I get tired of listening.

Only liked his character in the Corporate Rock era, the rest of the time I couldn't bear him. His promos were generally a repetitive dirge of catchphrases and unless he had a great hand opposite him in the ring, I found his matches really poor.

I didn't like how he was mean to Foley but he won me around by 2000.

His promos were generally a repetitive dirge of catchphrases... This was pretty much my biggest issue with him. My friends and I used to joke that eventually, the Rock would get to the point where he could just come out and hold a mic in the air to let the audience recite his entire promo in unison.

He came out, said catchphrases for five minutes and then used less moves than Cena in a typical match.

He wasn't one of my favourites back in the day, I much prefered Austin, Foley, Jericho, Angle and Benoit but I couldn't deny he was on top for a reason and his promos were amazing.
The guy has more charisma in his little toe than Cena has in his whole entire body.

He came out, said catchphrases for five minutes and then used less moves than Cena in a typical match. The greats don't need a lot of moves. They can hook a crowd with the bare basics. I couldn't tell you a single move Hogan did besides a Body Slam & the Atomic Leg Drop. Rock had a few more, but was a similar case. He didn't really have to do a lot of moves. The man got an elbow drop to be the most popular move in wrestling. If you can do that, you don't need a lot of moves. Spinebuster, Rock Bottom, People's Elbow. That's all he needed.
