RT @chrisbosh: Off to a great start. First one went well. Pat Riley is very passionate about winning.

I've got to wonder what exactly Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd are discussing in New York.
Most reporters seem to believe it's their own little summit trying to devise how to add a major piece to the Mavs.
Or Dirk could be signing with the Knicks and trying to figure out how to get Kidd moved there as well for all I know.

I didn't see this one coming for a multitude of reasons, first of which being that I figured a player of Gay's caliber couldn't wait to escape the Basketball Hell that is the city of Memphis. It's also a bit disconcerting as a Celtics fan, because that's one less swingman on the open market, meaning that there will be one more desperate team out there willing to give Paul Pierce an outrageous contract that he wouldn't be able to refuse. @stein_LINE_HQ: Lakers just announced that mega free agent Phil Jackson will be back next season. Jackson probably looked around the league, saw that Chicago had already tabbed Tom Thibodeau, New York already was locked into Mike D'Antoni, New Jersey had already signed Avery Johnson, Miami is going to hand the reigns to Pat Riley, and Cleveland hired Byron Scott. Jackson realized that he couldn't just follow the LeBron gravy train wherever it goes, so he decided to settle back in with the Lakers. However, he'll be back next year. If it means some shady deal that shuffles Thibodeau out of Chicago or Johnson out of New Jersey, Jackson will be back with whichever team is the winner of the summer of 2010 free agent market.

AKA the Knicks. You know the second LeBron and Amare and Bosh sign elsewhere they are going to go into full scale panic mode and just start throwing around money to whoever will take it so it will look like they did something.

RT @laireland: B Shaw told us that in 2 days of interviewing CLE execs never intimated that Lebron will leave. Cavs think he's staying Quite honestly, he'd be a fool not to. In Cleveland, he's God; anywhere else, he's a hired gun. And every bit of the goodwill he's engendered in Cleveland would turn sour immediately. It would be like Art Modell all over again - a betrayal of the highest caliber. It would be more than leaving a team, it's turning his back on the entire region. Not to be hyperbolic, but consider the economic impact of his departure on an already blighted city. The other cities, New York, Miami, Chicago, LA, won't benefit from the revenue he may generate nearly as much as Cleveland will be stricken by his exit. And besides, the more I watch of the coverage of free agency in general, the more obvious it becomes that James, Wade, and Bosh are expertly working EVERYONE to a degree that even Hogan and Nash must admire. Each one is being wined and dined and shamelessly pandered to by the teams and media of these cities as they make the rounds and "negotiate". More power to 'em, but I think it's utter fantasy to consider that even any two of the so-called "Big 3" end up in the same place.

We now live in a world where Amir Johnson, a 6 pt and 5 rebound per game guy gets $34 million over 5 years.

I agree it's a good chunk of money but I think the Raptors have accepted the fact that Bosh isn't coming back and Johnson did have some good games towards the end of the season. I'm guessing they just wanted to lock him up as their power forward for next year but I agree it's a lot of money based on potential.

Mike Miller has met with the Lakers, Heat and Knicks in Los Angeles and reportedly has a five-year, $30 million offer from the Lakers.
The Bucks and John Salmons are still hammering out the details of a five-year deal that would pay him close to $44 million.
The Suns will not meet Channing Frye's demand of a full mid-level contract worth about five years and $32 million.

I don't even think the Celtics even entertained the thought of offering the full MLE to Salmons. I guess it was just a pipe dream on my behalf. Now they can turn their attention to giving the mid-level exception to J.J. Redick, a lights-out shooter who would give them a viable replacement for Ray Allen if he leaves Boston, or even if he stays and they need production off the bench. I still believe that if the Celtics can re-sign Pierce and Allen, use the MLE on a quality sixth man and use the veteran's minimum on a big man who can fill the void until Kendrick Perkins returns in January, they can win 55-60 games and be a contender for the NBA Finals.

According to the Boston Globe, and in a move I did not see coming, the Celtics have reached out to David Lee and his agent.
There's no way the Celtics could afford to sign Lee, especially considering the kind of money the Knicks would be willing to throw at the fan favorite, so a sign-and-trade would be necessary to facilitate any such signing.
The Celtics would likely have to trade their rights to Rasheed Wallace's contract, Glen Davis and cash in exchange for Lee.

I'm starting to want LeBron to stay with the cavs. I just love the cavs I love Mo, Shaq, Antawn Jamison, etc. But I just hate Delonte West for what he did with LBJ's mother. So where do you guys want him to go?
- BTW I know Shaq is a free agent I just think he will sign with the CAVS.
