Harold Reynolds said the kid in Seattle shouldn't have been thrown out because it's hard enough to get people to attend those games in the first place

To answer H-Fist's question on how Howard got a stand up triple, here's the play-by-play:
- Howard hits it deep to left field, and is only inches from being an HR (and probably winning the game damn it) - Diaz tries to jump up and make a catch, and ALMOST gets it, but misses by just a little - Diaz proceeds to stare at his empty glove for what appears to be at least 5 seconds, then finally notices the ball has rolled about 20 feet away from him at this point - Diaz picks it up and tosses it to 3rd, where Howard has already cruised onto base, but doesn't try to score, because face it, a Ryan Howard triple is like winning the lottery in the first place. An inside the park homer would've been a straight up end of days event.

Between this and the inside-the-parker Gerardo Parra hit off of Peter Moylan on day #800 of his no-HR allowed streak (because McLouth and Heyward apparently have a language barrier on calling for fly balls), I have to think that ATL's outfield defense leaves something to be desired right now.

So I finally got to experience sitting in a Citi Field luxury suite tonight, and the experience was pretty damn wonderful. I typically prefer being out in the crowd to slap hands with more people and get to walk around, but it felt like 105 degrees outside tonight (no exaggeration) and I was grateful for the air conditioning...and the complimentary food/drinks.
Seeing Johan's first homer was an epic sight. The Mets aren't playing steady ball right now, but they're still 6-6 over their last 12, so despite a mini-slump they aren't really losing much ground, either. The road only gets harder, though, as there's a tough matchup with Cincy tomorrow, a big series vs. Atlanta, and then a Left Coast trip after the break.
Also, Colorado put up one of the best damn comebacks I've ever seen. It's about time that team started getting healthy, because they're a damn force to be reckoned with.

Tigers won last night 7-5 in 11 thanks to a 2 run walk off homer by Johnny Damon. So for now, the Tigers still have a half game lead on the Twins in the Central.
In other Tigers news, Armando Galarraga has been sent down to Toledo. He's had an ERA of 6 since the perfect game that wasn't, though the Tigers have been 4-1 in games he's started since then. Robbie Weinhardt has been called up to fill Galarraga's spot in the rotation.

Cano has pulled out of the Home Run Derby citing a "minor back injury," which I think is code speak for "The Yankees begged him not to participate."

Cano has pulled out of the Home Run Derby citing a "minor back injury," which I think is code speak for "The Yankees begged him not to participate." Good enough. He doesn't fit the mold for the Derby. It's about slugging home runs, not slapping the ball to the opposite field for a single, or hitting a ball to the gap for a double. Hopefully they extend an invitation to Adrian Gonzalez or Josh Hamilton.

Good, now we can get John Buck to participate...then maybe Papi will pull out and Infante can take his spot. (What a joke THAT thing has become post-Steroids era, sans Josh Hamethlton)

Cincinnati takes Game 3 of their 3-game series with a 3-1 win over the Mets. The Reds head to Philly(Cueto/Kendrick tomorrow) while the Mets have an offday before facing Atlanta, who beat Philadelphia tonight 7-5.
Not much to mention for the Mets offense besides Angel Pagan, who went 2-4 with a HR. For the Reds, Brandon Phillips & Chris Heisey hit homers while also making excellent plays at their positions(mainly, Heisey taking a possible triple away from Jason Bay).
Jon Niese started for NY, & he put forth another great effort. His line: 7.2 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 BB, 8 Ks, 2 HRs, 7 swinging strikes, 6:9 GB:FB on 99 pitches(63-36). He's not an "ace in the making" as SI believes, but he'll be a solid piece going forward. However, he was bested by Guitar Hero Bronson Arroyo. His line: 8 IP, 7 hits, 1 run, 0 BB, 3 Ks, 6 swinging strikes, 14:7 GB:FB on 99 pitches(72-27). For what feels like the thousandth time, he was able to confuse the Met batters.
In injury news, Oliver Perez will be starting for AAA Buffalo this Sunday & it seems likely that he'll be back with the major-league club soon.

I know they won't, but I'm begging Cincy to get a new closer. Cordero is a walking disaster waiting to happen every night. One hit away from giving up that two run lead in the bottom of the ninth. Reds just took 3 out of 4 in Chicago, and 2 out of 3 in New York. This road trip was deemed the time we'd all learn how for real the Reds were. Well, with 4 in Philly looming they're 5-2 so far. Unlikely to finish worse than .500 on the trip, barring a sweep by the Phillies. Couldn't have asked for a better start to this road trip.

ahaha, Cardinals lose on ANOTHER walk off homer after blowing a lead in Colorado. This time the damage done by Chris Iannetta after Colorado beat around the Cardinal bullpen for the second straight night to overcome 5-0 and 7-4 leads.

damn, he was good for milwaukee for much of 2007. what the heck happened? Decline, and the fact that he's always been a middle-of-the-road quality closer. Dunno what's gotten into Nick Swisher this half of the season, but he's been ridiculously good. HR #15 to give the Yanks a 6-1 lead.

Bill Hall's defense makes me want to cry and vomit at the same time. Had it not been for the biblical plague of injuries the Red Sox have incurred, Bill Hall probably would have been DFA'd by mid-June.

Aramis Ramirez may have finally woken up. 3 HRs in the last 2 games, with 7 RBI thanks to them.

I like all of your picks except AL Manager. There is no way Francona should win over Washington. I also scares me that you have Rausch listed on Rolaids Relief. I love the guy, but he scares the bejeezus out of me.
