YES!!!!
Finally we made a move that can actually improve the team immediately.
I've said for a LONG time that all we need is a legit #1 pitcher and we'd be in the hunt. Well, here he is.
And we didn't even have to give up the bounty of prospects that was claimed earlier in the week. We lose Smoak, that kind of hurts, but it's all about right now, and right now he's hitting like shit and isn't half the fielder that Chris Davis (who will be brought back up to take his place) is. Davis has more power as well when he can connect.
We didn't have to give up our top 2-3 pitching prospects. I like Blake Beaven a lot, but the thing is, our farm system is so stacked that it really just doesn't matter. All the talent we have in the minors, there's just not room for them all to stay with us, so why not use the excess to do something like this. Especially when we NEVER do it.
We didn't have to give up Salty or Teagarden. We still have Martin Perez, Derek Holland, and Tanner Scheppers. So to say I'm a happy camper right now is an understatement.
Bring on the Yankees, bring the Rays, the Red Sox, the Twins, the Tigers, the Angels, the White Sox. Bring whatever you want. Line them all up and we'll knock them the f*** down. It's our time now!

3-0 Reds! Gomes with a bomb in the first inning. Hopefully unlike last night they don't give it away right off.

I am still having a hard time making sense of this...the Rangers did something...goooo.....goooo....good? Sounds so wrong but, feels so right. Hopefully MLB and the Bankruptcy court don't f*** this up.

Nothing breaks a losing streak quite like a series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Haven't thou learned from the Mavericks? You think Cliff is gonna replicate his numbers from Seattle out there in Yankee Stadium Deep South? Come on, man.

This helps the Rangers, sure, but surely they aren't World Series bound just yet.

Sooo, Phils have managed to turn a 7-1 obliteration into another extra innings game against the Reds thanks to a 6 run 9th. Thank you Dusty for reducing Leake's arm to jello.

Make that a 9-7 walkoff win in the 10th courtesy of Ryan Howard.
Given how utterly crappy this game was going, this win was better than sex.

This helps the Rangers, sure, but surely they aren't World Series bound just yet. Why not? 1-9 we probably have the best offense in the game. Including a triple crown contender, with an RBI machine before him. Plus now with Bengie Molina in the mix, a much more able hitting catcher. Our bullpen has several very solid options with Frank Francisco, Darren Oliver, Darren O'Day, Alexi Ogando, Matt Harrison, etc. And of course Neftali Feliz closing. Starting pitching wise, add Cliff Lee in with already very solid seasons from CJ Wilson, Colby Lewis, and Tommy Hunter. Scott Feldman still hasn't found it yet this year however. Rich Harden is still making his way back from the DL, as is Derek Holland. So they have options if Feldman keeps struggling. As a Ranger fan all my life, I'll be the first one to say something when they are crap or make bad moves, because it's what I had to do all my life. But this is honestly the first time since 1998 that I can honestly say, I see no reason why we can't be THE team this year. Tampa made it a few years ago and, IMO, didn't have anywhere near the talent that we have right now. As opposition, your basically pitching against a team with no holes. If you get through Michael Young and Ian Kinsler, then Vlad and Hamilton are up. When one of them inevitably gets on base, then there's Nelson Cruz, and now Bengie Molina. Chris Davis will be there at the bottom now, and I know he can put one in the upper deck if he gets the bat on it. There is no weakness. Plus we run very often and very well. Andrus and Borbon can fly and as a team, we have gone 1st to 3rd on a single more times then any other team, and the gap isn't even close.

I think this move puts them above the Twins in terms of getting to the WS, but I'm not sure they're better than NY/Tampa in the pitching department. Certainly Lee is the best pitcher out there, but is Rangers 2-5 as good as NY or Tampa?
