I'm with you.
Seeing Ice Cube in family movies, Ice T as a FREAKING COP on TV, and Dr. Dre doing Dr. Pepper commercials makes me sad.
And the less said about Flava Flav at this point, the better.

Yeah seeing Ice T on CSI is hilarious and sad all at once. Also who else thinks Snoop Dogg has gotten kind of weak lately? I mean, I know the dude can't be a 20 year old badass rapper forever, but seeing him with f***ing CGI Gummy Bears in Katy Perry's video is sort of weird.

Snoop sold out years ago, so his collaboration with Katy Perry came to no surprise to me. Anyways, I think this picture is appropriate:

I wanted to post this earlier, but didn't want to make that big of a post:
*Language obviously*
It's a shame that Method and Biggie never made any more songs together before Biggie died.

Me too. Then again, I usually listen to songs like they are stories, regardless of the genre.
While I am at it, here is on of my favorite gangsta rap songs.

Old school gangsta rap can be pretty good. I've still pretty much been more into the more socially-conscious stuff, even from back then. Meaninglessly violent gangsta rap was never good, but there fortunately wasn't a whole lot of that.

Who the heck is making intellectual political rap except for those Flobot guys? I admit they are a catchy group but damn is their content annoying and preachy in the worse type of way. Back on topic though I completely agree. Gangsta rap or at least the hard edge grimey style of gangsta rap really needs to come back. Hip Hop has become way too much about catchy radio hits that are getting worse and worse. Hell I'd even take a crunk song over some of the crap coming out these days. Speaking of Ice Cube he actually still makes really good rap. Yeah his family friendly movie career is annoying but Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It song is awesome. That song was a single from his last album and it barley got any radio play. Just goes to show how hip hop radio stations have really sold out in the last ten years. Their main demographic now is young middle school females which is why they play way more R&B stuff instead of just straight rap. If there is one gangsta rap that needs to get big again it's Onyx. They were a one hit wonder but I have yet to see a rapper besides maybe DMX who sounded as hard as they did. They totally need to make a whole album with the metal band Biohazard some day.

I think there should be a balance. To me, rappers like NaS, Cube, Rakim and The GZA can walk that fine line between the hardcore street shit, and the intellectual, thought provoking things. That being said, I am totally not into the hustle rap stuff of today's youth. That stuff just blows my mind when all you hear is about how much weight somebody sold or how much their truck cost. Not my thing @ all

Sage Francis, El-P, P.O.S., Weerd Science, among countless others. All of their songs may not be that political, but in general, they tend to rap about that sort of thing a lot. Just saying.

Not my thing @ all This. I may have never lost a friend in a drive-by, but for some reason, I can relate to that more than a song about million dollar mansions and Ferrari's. I've been saying this for years. Todays mainstream hip-hop, for the most part, sucks. Granted it also doesnt help that censorship is a lot tighter today than it was 10-15 years ago. Saw the video for Nuthin But A G'Thang the other day...ya, theres no way that'd make it on today's radio/TV. Hell with it...here it is....Classic as ever!! (language...duh) One of the last gangster rappers..shame how far he's fallen.

They had a new song hit last year, I imagine it's off the new album.

Biohazard worked with some pretty good rappers and made some damn good straight-up rap songs. I always preferred this one - *Language Warning*

Meh - once you've heard one gangsta rap song - you've heard them all.
We get it! You like to shoot guns and deal drugs.
Intellectual/political stuff has become equally as boring too though.
I actually really like hiphop like Danger Doom's The Mouse and the Mask because it was about something random like Adult Swim shows. I'd never heard someone rap about cartoons before that so it was cool.
I'd want to see more stuff like that.
