Politics are, and always have been, part of wrestling. It's all part of the game. Complaining about politics in wrestling is like complaining about ice cream in a sundae. If you can't handle it, then do something else. Is there anybody that Bret Hart doesn't have heat with? The people on his DVD? The corpse of Owen Hart?

To modify what Robert Evans said
There are three sides to this story, Flair's side, Douglas's side, and the truth, and nobody is lying.

From a close friend of mine who is close friends with Shane Douglas. 90% of what Flair says is crap...and 95% of the boys know that. Few have ever been willign to step out and talk against him because he's always been consideref one of the untouchables...like Hogan. As that mystiqe goes away...more and more peopel will start to shatter all of Flairs' lies. So far...Douglas and Bret Hart are the only two to come right out and call Flair a liar. Adn he is a liar. He's a miserable son of a bitch too. Douglas was one of many...like Pillman, Magnum TA, Sting, Austin and others...that Flair wanted to squash...fearing they might take his spot at some point. Flair and Shane hated each other's guts all the way to the tiem they feuded in WCW. They're still not friends...but they don't "hate" each other. And no...it was no work bro...there was real time hatred on Shane's behalf...because of the way Flar did the younger up and comers. Flair acted like he didn;t care for al ong time...knowing the anger at him was legit...but also knowing he would never have to face douglas. Then...Douglas returned to WCW...and Flair walked out the back door. After Shane left durign the contract dispute with Bill Busch...Flair came back and was failry happy. Then...Shane came back...thanks to Bischoff and Russo...and they forced the feud to happen. But even durign the on air feud...Flair tried to crap on it as much as possible. So it was all real...every ounce of it. And tofay...they could possibly work with one another...but they will never be freidns. But...the lies of Dick Flair continue on and on and on. That's why I never could respect him...the truth just aint in him. Bret Hart knows it too. I'm not sure where to start with this one. Flair made Sting. He was in the process (along with Dusty Rhodes) of "making" Magnum TA when he had the car crash. Austin? The Horsemen feuded with the Hollywood Blondes. I would think if Flair wanted Austin or Pillman "held down" and was in power, they wouldn't have worked with them. People (including Mick Foley at one point) have said things like "Flair's the guy that let Steve Austin walk away", completely ignoring the fact that Austin himself has let it be known from the beginning, when he showed up in ECW, that Eric Bischoff fired him via FedEx. As far as implying that Flair left WCW so he wouldn't be around Shane Douglas, I'm sorry, but that's just laughable. Someone brought up the story of Douglas asking Flair to check his matches and Flair not doing it. That's what I'd always heard too, and it seems like it was during the Dynamic Dudes days. If that's when Douglas thinks he was held back, he's insane. The crowd hated the Dudes, and popped huge when Cornette swerved them in the Midnight Express feud. If we're going to be honest, we can all say that there is no way in looking at the Dynamic Dudes tag team that any of us would have seen a breakout star. Douglas is a pretty good wrestler, but that's as far as it goes. He has charisma and intensity, but I've seen some of these "great" promos from ECW, and take away his ability to say "f***" and "Dick Flair" (wow, must have taken him ages to think that up. Either that or he just asked a 6th grader what he should say) and all I saw was "Okay, dude is pissed. But what would we have to say if he couldn't cuss and make horrible references to guys in other companies? I still don't know. But playing the "bitter, screwed young lion that the old guard fears" made a decent career for him. I hope it was just a gimmick, because I can't see when he was held down. The Dudes sucked. His team with Steamboat, I enjoyed. But sometimes teaming with a great wrestler and having some great matches isn't enough to truly make you. Dean Douglas - horrible gimmick, but it's not like he's the only guy that ever happened to. If he's bitter that his career didn't take off further, I can perhaps understand. But pointing the finger at everyone else doesn't quite get it done.

This has always irked me, too. On the Forever Hardcore DVD, various wrestlers praise his promos as being really good and to prove it, they show a promo from XPW. And it was freaking awful. All it was was Shane cursing and cursing, calling Flair a bastard and all that and really proved the criticisms levied against him

I was lead to belive it was Dusty's Idea to break up the blondes If Flair wanted to break up the Blodes it was only because he wanted to give Austin a big solo push. From what I've heard the plan was for Austin to move into the world title scene by late 1994 and to win the belt sometime around there Hindsight is 20/20 -- because I seriously doubt Stunning Steve would have ever gotten as over, even with a Flair push if no Hogan had been hired. There would have been no Stone Cold, no "Superstar" Steve Austin -- no nothing.

Shane's ECW promos were very effective, definitely more than mere "cussing." Uh yeah . . . DOUGLAS: You know the bullshit I used to go through with that gay ass pussy Shawn Michaels and his gay pals in the WWF, and then THERE IS DICK FLAIR who ALWAYS PUT ME DOWN. Yeah Shane was SOOOOOOOO constructive.

Flair has had a reputation for holding back some talent, but he also has pushed talent. That being said, before this turns into a Shane Douglas bash fest, Douglas and Flair buried the hatchet a LONG time ago.

I buried the hatched with an old enemy and an old girlfriend -- and I know they still hate my guts.
