I'm serious - I know Demolition is loved on this board, but really, if you can separate yourself from the product, pretend you're seeing them for the first time: what the hell? I mean, the ring gear can only be explained one way - Greenwich Village, homosexual S&M.
I know they were going for a Road Warriors rip-off/tribute thing, but at least the Roadies were somewhat inspired by the Mel Gibson flick, and can invoke images of medieval warriors with the paint and spikes. The idea for the Demolition gear is just so....out there.
This only really dawned on me when I saw a recent picture of Bill Eadie in the old gear - it looked ridiculous and disturbing.

NEVER made me think of homosexuality, didn't then, doesn't now-maybe long tights mighta helped, but I think people just read too much into it

Actually, when I first saw them the first thing I thought of was Humungus from The Road Warriors which if I were a betting man they were modled after:

Ironically, Lord Humungus is #1 badass in Mad Max 2 and his lieutenant Wez who the Road Warriors/LOD were based on is gay.

When you realize that prowrestling at its basic level is two men in their underwear rolling around on the floor, you can find homosexual overtones everywhere if you're really trying.
Not being all that familiar with S&M gear, myself, I never saw Demolition that way. Something you're trying to tell us, molson? Seriously, I'm not sure what percentage of the population would know what the gear was.

It does look like S&M gear, I used to think that a few years ago. Especially with the chaps they used to wear to the ring over their tights.. a little fruity in the booty if you ask me. HOWEVER, when I was a kid.. I thought they were the coolest guys around, no one can hold a candle to the coolness that was their masks.
No one.

I wasn't watching the WWF at the time since I was really young, but looking at them years later did make me conclude that the gear=extremely fruity

Seeing Demolition as a preteen, I thought their getup was awesome (and at the time, I knew nothing of S&M)

There's nothing gay about Demolition. Lets never speak of this again.

The thing is, if Demolition would have stayed around until the mid to late 90's, they would have not been thought of any more highly then skull and 8-Ball.

Seeing Demolition as a preteen, I thought their getup was awesome (and at the time, I knew nothing of S&M) I feel the same way. When I was a kid I just thought it looked scary and cool. Then when I got older, I realized it was scary in a "gimp from Pulp Fiction" kind of way... Then about 2 years ago I watched The Road Warrior for the first time (the Mel Gibson flick... not the wrestlers) and realized that they were intended to be a straight rip-off of Humongous. I mean, they dressed exactly like him. So I guess I can surmise that Demolition and Humongous all look like big beefy gay dudes. If the Demos chaps were assless, that would've made it MUCH worse. Still though, great tag team from my youth either way.
