After reading the IWC arguments thread I was reminded that a lot people seem to that a heel turn would always help a wrestler's career (especially if the wrestler's name begins with "J" and ends with "ena".) But this isn't always the case.
Take Rikishi's heel turn for example. The fans just weren't going to accept the man who spent the past year dancing with 2 Cool and rubbing his bare ass in people's faces as a bad-ass capable of threating Stone Cold and the Rock.
Anyone else got any examples of heel turns gone wrong?

His face turn a year later was worse due to the fact is was very lazy.

Val Venis, when he stole Mr. Rocko (Mr. Socko with the Rock's face). Rock & Sock were mega-over, so heat was inevitable, but the turn was one of the most half-assed I can remember.
Also, Savio Vega joining the Nation of Domination. He attacks Ahmed Johnson out of nowhere at a house show, formally turns on Shotgun Saturday Night, and his explanation on Raw was obscured by his heavy accent.

I'm not a big fan of "the black people". And I want to make Jesus tap out. He was already a heel. He had Daivari managing him. The whole point of that (IMO LEGENDARY) promo was that he could say whatever he wanted but he would still get cheered because people preferred him to Cena.

Ahmed Johnson joining the NOD. With most of the others at least I can see what they were going for. This one was just flat out stupid.

Ahmed was unable to win the title, so he blamed his own shortcomings on racism rather than own up to it. It was his face turn a month later that made no sense.

Begins and ends with Rikishi. His heel turn single-handedly demolished the poor guy's career.

The reason for the turn wasn't the problem. It was the ass backwards logic that he'd align himself with the guys who'd intentionally gone out of their way to make his life hell. But I agree that the face turn afterwards made him out to be an unsympathetic little bitch.

I know that the promo wasn't a heel turn, I was just referring to the fact that he was being cheered that heavily as a heel at all =P
