Boy I know this won't be popular but I have to completely disagree with Storm on this and say that he is a huge hypocrite. For a guy who was in ECW for so long to come out and say he has a problem with unprotected chair shots is absolutely disgusting to me. Lance Storm is also the guy who took one Balls Mahoney chair shot to the head and, after the match, told Heyman that he would quit if he ever had to do that again.

Sounds like Lance Storm's grievance over the loss of what I assume was a close friend of his led him to giving up on TNA's product. I don't know how many of you lost of loved one or a good friend, but your emotional state can be quite fragile shortly after their passing, so I'm not gonna criticize the man for venting his anger over an organization that would allow their talent to perform a stunt that is just flat out reckless and dangerous. The other thing is I'm sure many of you don't like it when someone criticizes your opinions. You don't have to agree with what the man says, but try to see it his way for a moment. He listed 41 friends of his who have passed away from steroids, drug addictions, brain damage, etc. He certainly has seen the very worst that this business has to offer from a first-hand perspective. While you may not share many of his criticisms, I believe those criticisms are coming from a very honest place. ...is it bad that I'm weirded out by Lancers giving a serious answer? I mean, either way, I agree with him, but... it's just odd, yanno? o.o I know what you mean. My posting habits are similar to an 1980s TV sitcom. Once in awhile, I throw in a very special post to show that I'm not all throwaway one-liners and making fun of Ice Train. Then usually my next post I usually pretend that this post never existed and try to start up a conversation weighing the pros and cons of a Spanish Inquisition gimmick in TNA.

Lance has always been opinionated, to the point where his opinions are sometimes disregarded, and in some cases, deservingly so. But take a look at this list. Mike Awesome (42) Bam Bam Bigelow (45) Mike Lozanski (35) Chris Candito (33) Rhonda Singh (40) Curt Hennig (44) Road Warrior Hawk (46) Big Boss Man (41) Larry Cameron (41) Eddie Gilbert (34) Rick Rude (41) Anthony Duranti (36) Big Dick Dudley (34) Bobby Duncum Jr. (34) The Wall (36) Eddie Guerrero (38) Davey Boy Smith (39) Louis Spicoli (27) Miss Elizabeth (42) Crash Holly (32) Gary Albright (34) Joey Maggs (37) Johnny Grunge (39) Ted Petty (49) Terry Gordy (40) Dick Murdock (49) Art Bar (28) Russ Hass (27) Brian Pillman (35) Sherri Martel (49) Beef Wellington (42) Chris Benoit (40) Nancy Benoit (43) John Kronus (38) Bryan Adams (43) Mike Bell (37) Andrew Test Martin (33) Steve Doll (49) Kerry Brown (51) Edward “Umaga” Fatu (36) Chris Kanyon (40) Now, Love or Hate Lance Storm, can you really look at this list and say there isn't a problem? Lance doesn't say that drugs, or concussion related damage or suicide are the cause of these deaths. he says: I have been in this industry since 1990 and below is a list of people I have known and lost during my career. I am beyond sympathy and to the point of rage when I have to add a new name to this list, and while steroid use and concussions are not the only causes of these deaths, denying they play a significant role in many of them is ludicrous and we have to start taking every step possible to protect the health and well being of the people in this industry. Most of those people he worked with, "grew up" with Storm in the business. I was lucky enough to talk to Texas Legend "Killer" Tim Brooks, who told me that "We're always learning in this business, at 62 I'm still learning new things." The list above are people that Lance learned his craft with and he taught his craft to, people who help define him and he helped define them in this business. I'm as old or older than 9 of those wrestlers listed... At the "ripe old age" of 34, I'm older than 22% of that list, when they died. At 41, Lance Storm is right in the middle of that group. Lance is as old or older than 28 of the friends and co-workers he listed... 68% of that list saw less or as many sunsets as Lance Storm has. The national average age for death (Men), in this country, is 78. Kerry Brown died at age 51 (the eldest in Storm's List), according to the national average, he should have lived another 27 years. Sherri Martel, according to the women's national average, should have lived until the ripe old age of 81, instead of 49. Think about that. Does any other professional sport have a mortality rate like that? Look at the number of professional wrestlers who have passed in the last two decades or so, check this link: prowrestling.about.com/od/whatsrealwhatsfake/a/wrestlersdeaths.htm Lance might rub people the wrong way with his opinions and how he voices them, but his concerns are pretty valid. Lance's comment: What a horrific tribute this was to the death of Chris Kanyon. is chillingly accurate, as is the accusations that TNA didn't do the chair shot as a tribute to Kanyon. Both statements are correct. The "horrific tribute" is the fact that TNA didn't even consider the possibilities of what might have contributed to Kanyon's depression. Most likely, TNA didn't consider Kanyon at all. Can you think of a more horrific tribute? I loved Chris's work and I would have loved to work with him, regardless of his orientation (and believe me, there is less homophobia backstage than you would possibly imagine, at least at the shows I've worked). The man was talented and entertaining and the fact that anything cause a human being to devalue themselves to the point of ending their own life is a horrific tragedy. Certainly, this could be caused by extenuating circumstances, but are you willing to look at these lists and say, "No way, this is blown way out of proportion"? Owen (God rest his soul) and Droz bolstered WWE's concern for safety in the ring. Their wellness policy and new "PG" slant is starting to take a look at the long term affects of "extreme" ring work. Who else needs to lose their life because we (the industry and the fans) turned a blind eye to the long term damage our stars are doing to themselves, for our entertainment? How many pros lose their spots because they have to heal? Bret Hart was diagnosed with MULTIPLE Concussions when he received the mule kick that ended his wrestling career. In his documentary "Wrestling With Shadows" he even states that he had broken his sternum in a match with Dino Bravo and came back to work a week or two later, because if he didn't work, he didn't get paid. No sick time, nothing for (at that time) an up and coming mid-carder, hot off of his Tag Team Championship, to allow him to heal. And that's just one man in the business, he can't be the only one. Who would like to see Stone Cold wrestle again? How about Droz? Or Dynamite Kid? What about Bret "The Hitman" Hart? Would anyone like to see Owen again? Anyone want to bet that "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels retired due to the long term damage he's sustained over the years and he's trying to keep himself from ending up like any of the guys I listed above? The business is flawed, when ANY promoter disregards their talent's health in exchange for pushing another superstar past their physical limit. As fans of the wrestling business, we're quick to chant "BULLS***" and "WHERE'S OUR REFUND" when a show sucks, but maybe it's about time that we hold WWE, TNA and any other promotion responsible for their talent's health and care, long term.

If we could nominate people for best post of the week nigelrabid would get my vote. That post pretty much went past all the stupid Lance Storm vs. TNA bickering and went right to the ugly heart of the matter. I honestly want to thank you for that.

Well said. What can I really add? Pretty much this. Well done, nigelrabid Thank you. First post needed to be spot on, otherwise people would know what kind of wanker I was... If we could nominate people for best post of the week nigelrabid would get my vote. That post pretty much went past all the stupid Lance Storm vs. TNA bickering and went right to the ugly heart of the matter. I honestly want to thank you for that. Wow. I'm honoured. You're very welcome. I have always found that the most opinionated workers in the industry make the best points. Tom Zenk made a similar point, concerning Steroid use in the industry and the lack of accountability. Lance just carried the point further. I just didn't like the fact that people were missing the point.

I don't have an issue with the chair shots as long as its not done that often. If its done once or twice a year then I am cool with it but if it becomes a weekly or monthly thing then its getting out of hand.
Storm has the right to do what he wants. Obviously me just some guy that watches wrestling on TV and has no clue to the inner workings of the industry and no connections isn't going to care if wrestlers throw caution to the wind once in a while.
But Storm a man who has been in the industry for a long time is going to look at things from his more connected perspective. Storm probably feels like promoters need to be more protective of their talents because he has seen the effects of what things like unprotected chair shots do.
All in all I think addiction to pain killers is much more of an issue then unprotected chair shots. I also think WWE's unforgiving travel schedule is much more of an issue then the more aggressive bumps TNA lets their wrestlers do.

Hmmm, every single guy that's ever put on the boots has taken 100 chair shots and how many of them have died of concussions verses how many guys have died of Steroids or prescription drug abuse due to just the strain from 100 regular bumps a night for 10 years? TOO MANY versus TOO MANY.

. 'Unprotected chair shots are RAPING YOUR CHILDREN AT CHURCH.' It's personal for him, though. Chris Benoit bought the ring for him that Lance uses at his school. Imagine using that ring day in and day out after a person who did something to help you out ended up killing his family and himself after who knows how many concussions. It's his website, he can say what he wants. Maybe some will listen, maybe others won't its not like he's forcing anyone to read his stuff.
