I don't really care about the ring all that much. I care that Abyss is doing a pathetic ripoff of Hulk Hogan, replete with Hulking up and doing the "YOU!" gesture. Abyss is also utterly hideous on the mic, to the point of being laughable.

Even without Hogans magic ring, Abyss still sucks at the moment and has sucked since '07 at least.
Meanwhile this whole Chelsea thing is making me want to dry heave.

I thought that "Full Retard" Abyss was him at his worst. I was wrong. I liked him more then than I do now. Why can't they see what we see? Why can't they see that they've booked a ring to make Abyss a better person? The One Ring storyline is subpar even by TNA standards. I'm honestly surprised Abyss hasn't started calling it "The Precious." All of a sudden, he can Hulk Up and win with ease. The Hulk Up, as Abyss does it, only works for Hogan. With Abyss being "The Monster," IMO, him Hulking Up isn't really necessary. Hogan, Sting, or HBK were never billed as a monster. Their babyface comebacks worked because they were not huge like Abyss. Him having to Hulk Up doesn't make him seem like much of a monster. Kane & Undertaker have the sit-up, but that's not really a comeback. It's a message sent to the opponent that it's going to take more than that to keep them down. They don't flail about the ring like they're Delirious after the bell rings. All they do is sit up. That fits their "monster/superhuman" booking. It's different than the usual babyface comeback. Most of the time, they're done multiple times a match and don't always lead to the end of it. If TNA insists on doing this, that is how Abyss' should be. They call him a monster and they take away his monsterous theme. They give him "American Made" and that does NOT fit him at all. And now they've given him Chelsea. No good can come of this storyline. It didn't work with Kane/Lita and I doubt it's going to work now. IMO, Abyss is the main problem with TNA's show. I can tolerate and even accept most of it. This? Not so much. In my opinion this should easily win the Gooker award (for so many reasons) It rivals the reverse battle royal from a few years ago as the worst wrestling related anything I have ever seen. Wow! If this & the reverse battle royal are the worst things you've ever seen in wrestling, you haven't been watching wrestling very long.

There trying to give Abyss a personality, and it's starting to bloom into something pretty kickass I think. They didn't just totally get rid of buffoon Abyss, but phased it out and gave a actual reason as to the change, in regards to Abyss gaining confidence from Hulk Hogan's support, and now he is a ass kicking monster with attitude. And if the character continues in that route then Abyss could be TNA's Stone Cold.

i dunno. i agree with the poster that compared this to people being ticked with the AJ/Flair pairing when to me that makes worlds more sense than this one.
i've always liked Abyss.
my main annoyance comes from the fact that he's not really melding his style with Hogan's as AJ did with Flair, but rather is blatantly being Hulk Hogan.
i can't stand this red and yellow outfit, how he Hulks Up or the fact that he comes about to that awful music. to me the music is worse than any promo Abyss can cut.
and he is a good promo guy. i was glad they finally let him talk. they just give him ridiculous things to say. he has a voice that fits his character imo. when it comes to that i think people are nit picking. there are plenty worse actors/talkers out there.
Jeff Hardy anyone?

I don't watch much TNA, but it seems to me that the biggest problem with Abyss is that he is horrendous in the ring. I watched the PPV the other night; Scott Hall looked better.

Abyss has pretty much always sucked. Early James Mitchell led Abyss was ok, but that's about it.
he's always been fairly decent in-ring, but the character itself- almost always terrible.

Seriously though everything Abyss related in at least the last year and probably more has been quite literally abysmal. I just wanted to applaud your awesome choice of words! Calling Abyss Abysmal is very appropriate... it's his namesake! Meanwhile I agree that I don't care for Abyss at all, but I don't blame Hogan. Abyss has been doing the "Eugene Clap" since last summer, and even though I loved TNA last year, I did not like Manchild Abyss. I don't think Hulkamania Abyss is any better. I don't think it's any worse either though.

Abyss desperately needs to change asap. He used to be one of my favourites but now he's just embarrassing.
He needs to (in an ideal world) -
- Attack and beat the crap out of Hogan, shove his ring down his throat and put him out of TNA
- Get in much better shape - he's a fat joke at the moment and not muscular at all
- Change up his mask and costume. Go back to a full face mask, even more so than before which showed some skin - they need to hide the face that it's the same goofy guy underneath.
- Get new badass music
- Get James Mitchell back to talk for him and never say another word. Ever.
- Basically be as much of a big, scary and psychotic monster as he can be
James Mitchell was awesome.

Abyss has pretty much always sucked, so you know. Hey his win-loss record has been surprisingly up since he went full retard. Really he's won most of his feuds/matches. He went from Jobbing to everybody and getting beat up to beating everybody up and winning.

It's actually been pretty interesting to watch his s***ty character completely swirl down the drain for years now.
He's never recovered from that god-awful Sting angle.

I was never a big fan of Abyss, less so when he started speaking, and now he's dead to me. And I personally prefer to call him "Norman the Abyss".

He's out of shape and completely uninteresting. He has pretty much become the Kane of TNA. A former monster who never spoke, had a great manager and is now reduced to... that.

I couldn't read any past the word "abysmal" in the first post because I was too busy giggling like a child about the pun.
