If only there was some award that would recognize that fact amiright?
Seriously though everything Abyss related in at least the last year and probably more has been quite literally abysmal, and it's just been getting worse and worse. Nothing about this guy is good or interesting anymore, he's been ruined, and transformed into a walking talking mockery of pro-wrestling.
In short, I'm sick of "Evad" Abyss.
This guy seriously needs to be black hole slammed through a ring or something and then not come back for at least 6 months to rehabilitate his image.

100% agreed. Abyss has been the biggest casualty of Russo's booking. It isn't just the current Hogan storyline, which sucks of course. Abyss has been terrible in TNA pretty much ever since Russo came back to the company in late 2006 and put him in the goofy Sting feud where Sting wanted to save his soul.
Or how about the dreadful Foley storyline with all of this garbage about Foley's picture with Borash being trashed by Abyss? That was hideous too.
Abyss absolutely must turn heel. It has to happen. Bring back James Mitchell to be his manager, and tell Abyss to never, ever try to cut another promo.

I agree that things much change for Abyss or people will lose interest in him entirely.

The vast majority of Abyss storylines post-Mitchell and post-Dutch have been pretty terrible IMO. The character was really Dutch's favorite, and now that Dutch is gone...getting rid of Abyss (not necessarily Chris...but certainly the Abyss character) seems the best option IMO.

He's become a caricature and an embarassment to himself and pro wrestling in general. A heel turn might save his career so maybe he should beat up Hogan and stick the ring in his mouth. He's currently rivaling Hornswoggle as top lame gimmick.

At least Horny doesn't get the main event of PPVs to make us cringe, and is pushed solely as a comedy gimmick. Despite the silliness of Hulk Lantern, we're actually supposed to take Eugbyss seriously on some level.

I wouldn't mind something like that, have the Abyss character retired and have Chris Park just be himself. Mankind --> Mick Foley, same thing and would be quite apt in fact.

I was also reminded of the idea that some people had the the Eugene heel turn would have worked if the wrestler portraying him (forgot his real name) would have completely dropped the gimmick and admitted Eugene was a character who existed to get sympathy heat from the audiences.

Yeah, the Abyss character is just a complete mockery at this point and I haven't liked him in the slightest since Russo rejoined the writing team. The best thing that could happen to the wrestler is to drop the gimmick and just become Chris Park. Or turn him into a silent monster again, though the damage may be done already.

I thought that "Full Retard" Abyss was him at his worst. I was wrong. I liked him more then than I do now. Why can't they see what we see? Why can't they see that they've booked a ring to make Abyss a better person? The One Ring storyline is subpar even by TNA standards. I'm honestly surprised Abyss hasn't started calling it "The Precious."
All of a sudden, he can Hulk Up and win with ease. The Hulk Up, as Abyss does it, only works for Hogan. With Abyss being "The Monster," IMO, him Hulking Up isn't really necessary. Hogan, Sting, or HBK were never billed as a monster. Their babyface comebacks worked because they were not huge like Abyss. Him having to Hulk Up doesn't make him seem like much of a monster. Kane & Undertaker have the sit-up, but that's not really a comeback. It's a message sent to the opponent that it's going to take more than that to keep them down. They don't flail about the ring like they're Delirious after the bell rings. All they do is sit up. That fits their "monster/superhuman" booking. It's different than the usual babyface comeback. Most of the time, they're done multiple times a match and don't always lead to the end of it. If TNA insists on doing this, that is how Abyss' should be.
They call him a monster and they take away his monsterous theme. They give him "American Made" and that does NOT fit him at all. And now they've given him Chelsea. No good can come of this storyline. It didn't work with Kane/Lita and I doubt it's going to work now.
IMO, Abyss is the main problem with TNA's show. I can tolerate and even accept most of it. This? Not so much.

I think the Abyss and the Hogan storyline was intended to be a huge hit with the kids because of the Harry Potter series. Too bad it bombed so badly because the kids are unaware of TNA's existence.

The default "blame Russo" argument is getting really old.
Abyss was great when he had Father James Mitchell as a mouthpiece, so that Abyss could be a real monster. Abyss' character went into the toilet once Mitchell left. The blame lies in the fact that he no longer has a good manager/mouthpiece.

I 100% support this thread. Seeing him on tv is like fingers on a chalkboard to me. I kid you not, I can't stand him as much as I did xpac back in the day and that's saying something. I just want him to go away and never return...that is how badly they have handled him.
That said, it's not impossible to save him if they get rid of that stupid abyss character..PERIOD. As someone else said, just have him come out, give some promo and be himself while throwing the abyss character in the trash never to return. It would also help if he lost some weight as it has seriously effected his movement.

Seeing Abyss now, it's like Phantasio and Evad Sullivan had a kid, then beat on it with a sack full of doorknobs.

In my opinion this should easily win the Gooker award (for so many reasons) It rivals the reverse battle royal from a few years ago as the worst wrestling related anything I have ever seen.

If the reverse battle royal was honestly the worst thing you have seen, you have lived a lucky life. You know, being "that guy" again, the whole Abyss thing seems blown way out of proportion. A lot of it seems more like hype from the internet than anything on TV. The whole ring of power things is more the internet reaction than TNA doing it themselves. Hell, Abyss FLAT OUT SAYS IT'S NOT MAGIC during that Reaction interview before his match with Flair. People seem more hung up over the ring itself than the whole meaning of the angle. It's like no one bothers to actually watch it, kind of like how people keep calling AJ a Flair clone even when he's been acting different and not like Flair for 2 months now. It's like the Eric Young/Robert Roode angle, where it was close to winning the Gooker when ever worse stuff, some even in the same company, was either falling behind or left off entirely. Hell, I remember people voting for it, but they didn't really understand why. The hype made it worse than the actual angle ever was. It's not grea, but not the abomination that people are paiting it as.

Is it too late for Abyss to absorb Flair's powers?
Why would going by his real name be better than just booking Abyss like he should be booked? I doubt his promos or acting will improve by taking off the mask and changing his clothes.

Yeah he said it wasn't magic, but that's not how they're booking it. They are acting like Hogan poured all of his being into the One Ring and gave it to Abyss. Instantly, Abyss began wearing red & yellow, entering to "American Made," and started Hulking Up. His versus screen graphic is him pointing to the damn ring. They've made the ring Abyss' entire character. They've bound Abyss' fate with that of the Ring. If the Ring is destroyed, Abyss too shall be destroyed. Somebody destroy that damn ring! Cast it into the fires of the Dungeon of Doom from whence it came!
