I know its trendy for something current to be frowned upon, but something in the past gets romanticizd into something more than what it was.
Take for example, the Attitude Era. While I was not a member of the IWC at the time, from what I read Rock was crapped on big time for his repetive catchphrases and workrate, and that was when wrestling was popular with the masses. Austin got crap to a lesser extent. Today, the Attitude Era is revered.
While I do agree the Attitude Era and Monday Night wars was a 100000000000000000 times better than what we get today, lets not forget all the crappy moments that took place such as The Brawl for All, The Higher Power blowoff, Sammy, Harry Beaver Clevage, The Oddities, Suicide Hawk,GTV etc etc.
I know Vince Russo is considered "The Brain Child" of Crash TV, but not everything he did in the WWF was gold. I know it is often said he had a filter, yet some of the crap made it through the net so to speak. I won't deny that the crap back then is at least unintentionally hilarious, while today's product bores me to tears, but lets not forget there's always going to be people out there you can't satisfy.
2003 is another example. At least for Smackdown. But I remember smarks trashing the WWE as a whole back then. At least their opinon on Triple H's reign of terror stayed the same.
This brings me to now. In 10, possibly 5 years from now, do you think the IWC will rejoice the days of Cena's superman push, Hornswoggle given an adequate amount of airtime, kiddified DX. NXT, as well as the guest host thing?
I'm gonna have to say maybe. The reason being is back then(late 90s/early 2000s), is half those teenagers and young adults were kids and teens, so obviously it was looked at fondly, while the other half values nostalgia over actuality.
I can also picture CM Punk being the new Triple H/John Cena in terms of his reputation with the IWC. They'll complain that he is always in the main event while burying the roster. Remember, there was a time Cena and Hunter were looked at with greatness.
Your thoughts?
