Aneurysms and capillary bursts occur spontaneously. That's how people have strokes. Unless every person you know who's had a stroke was clotheslined by a professional wrestler. Um...no. But a 50 something year old guy taking some damn stiff shots by a bunch of green wrestlers (a few of whom like Otunga are completely clueless and not properly trained), complaining he felt bad after the angle and had a headache, and then suffering some sort of brain trauma a few days later makes you think. It doesn't appear to be the case here, but you can't be surprised that was what people thought. Yeah...but it's wrestling "news". 98% of everything is speculation and jumping to conclusions unnecessarily. It's already a bad enough situation for these guys, I would hate to seem them blamed and punished if they weren't in fact the reason for this unfortunate incident to occur. But mostly, I was just irked by the reporting which is trying to insinuate something which isn't the case. But I guess what else is new.

Newz sites? We all saw it happen. I remember even when it was going on people said they were being too stiff with them. It was not an insane conclusion too jump to: they were clumsly and rather stiff with him, I thought. It appears to have just been a coincidence, but it was pretty logical to at least wonder if it had something to do with it.

20 years ago, these guys would be in the ring bragging about putting Steamboat in the hospital (ala Stan Hansen breaking Brunos neck) Nowadays, im probably sure wwe will make them apologize for the beating or some kind of garbage like that. Yep, 'cause publicly apologizing for giving someone a brain aneurysm is so awful. Kayfabe shouldn't ever extend quite that far. An angle is an angle. Kayfabe usually leaves the real world outside of the wwe. In reality, wwe will not make them apologize for this, they might address it buuutt then again, they might not..similar to not addressing what happened with Danielson. Im split on what they really might do. What happened to Steamboat was awful but just imagine the crowd heat they'd get. It would be off the charts.

Say it was the wrestlers who caused it. Who cares. Unless they were being intentionally reckless or were told to go light and didn't, shouldn't Steamboat (and the guys who planned this) have known that at his age going into the ring that there were risks involved?

here's the beatdown.
so what I see, the wrestlers are taking it pretty light with the punching and kicking. Steamboat makes it look good, and sells. Nexus actually did very good light attacks on him. But then it gets a little worse. Otunga does a powerful spinebuster at 2:13, then..Gabriel is seen stepping on his head soon after. Dont know what to make at that. At 2:59, Skip almost takes Steamboat out of his shoes. The crowd is in a frenzy soon after. Then Gabriel finishes it off with the splash. It was well put together.

Looking back at it I didn't really see what I was expecting, which is Steamboat's head violently hitting the mat. I figured that Otunga's spinebuster was what did it, but it looked like Steamboat fell correctly. Even the lariet didn't seem to be as violent as at first viewing. I think it could be true that the blood clot bursting and the Nexus beatdown could be unrelated. Either way the Nexus guys weren't as stiff in my opinion as some have made it out to be.

My take: Steamboat has shit luck and the timing was coincidental. Piss poor, but coincidental. I'm no medical expert, but wouldn't it have happened right away and not 2 days later?

It's just the IWC using anything they can as a scape goat.

I don't think selling for Nexus could have helped, but I doubt it was the outright cause either.

Honestly, it could have happened Monday and he ignores it out of the wrestler mentality/thinking just took a bad bump/whatever and then it dawns on him that he is seriously hurt when it doesn't go away after a day or so.

I'm really hoping Steamboat recovers from this. If he does, do you think they'll add him to the "Don't try this at home" disclaimer?

LATEST UPDATES ON RICKY STEAMBOAT by Mike Johnson @ 8:55 AM on 7/2/2010 ... I wouldn't go so far as to say there's heat on the Nexus crew but there's certainly unhappiness about this turn of events and some heat on the Nexus talents. "See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden jump up and grind my feet on somebody's couch like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that." 4 seconds later... "Yeah, I remember grinding my feet on Eddie's couch" I had to look this up on youtube because I forgot about it being one of the funniest moments of that show.

While I think Steamboat was going to stay retired anyway, I would hate to think this could end up being the reason to do so.

Ricky Steamboat's health status has improved greatly over the last day "to the point where the signs point to him recovering." WWE hopes that when he does recover that he will be able to resume his backstage duties with the company
