Finally watched the Mr. Perfect dvd. So cool to see them chronicle the history of this great of the squared circle. They interviewed Larry the Ax Hennig and they interviewed a young guy named Joe Hennig who looks an awful lot like Michael McGillicutty. They even interviewed Curt's widow who says they had four kids, none of which were named Michael.
It just feels weird that a third generation wrestler is going by Michael McGillicutty. Randy Orton uses his real name. Why couldn't Joe Hennig use his? I think it's a fine wrestling name.
I am not the first person to criticize the name change and NXT Season 2 has been on a few weeks. It is just bothering me that the weird new name is still being used. It is a slap in the face to the history and legacy of the Hennig family.

Well I wouldn't say it's a slap in the face bc after all they are recognizing him as his son and besides I heard that they're still gonna have him be a part of "the fortunate sons" as Joe Hennig

Maybe he wants to be recognized by his own merits and not for being the son of mr perfect

There is nothing wrong with Joe Hennig wrestling under an assumed name.
There is a lot wrong with him wrestling under a hilariously awful, groan-inducing name like McGillicutty

Dudes name may suck but he can go in the ring, and he can cut a decent promo and that's what matters to me.

I guess he "didn't want to". Either really didn't or that's the way they are trying to explain it in kayfabe. But either way....
Couldn't he use a name that didn't sound ridiculous? Even "Lucky Cannon" is a better name!

Supposedly it's his mom's maiden name. Let it go.

At least they didn't give him the name Edge.
What a stupid F***ing name. That name would totally get s*** on if he had debuted today.

Supposedly it's his mom's maiden name. Let it go. Some googling leads me to believe her name is Leonice Leonard. Which sounds even more ridiculous than Michael McGuillicutty...

I don't mind the McGillicutty name. He's like the illegitimate son of Beulah McGillicutty and Curt Hennig.

I suspect they will revert to Hennig, and personally I think Mike/Michael Hennig sounds better than Joe Hennig.

As soon as they gave that explanation, I too tried google searches to see if I could confirm that Leonice's maiden name was McGillicutty and I was pretty convinced WWE made it up.

Does it really matter? I mean really? He's a good wrestler and has charisma, he is getting over. What is the problem? This is something that just irks me about internet fans. They give him a name "the name sucks!". They then try to give a kayfabe explanation "it's not the real maiden name!". THIS IS WRESTLING, THEY MAKE UP NAMES! And most of the time it isn't creative who just says "Use this name or walk". It's the wrestler along with creative looking for a name. I can almost guarantee that Mike had a say in what his name was. Actually, it's kind of growing on me.
It's the same with Dolph, people ragged on his name, and then got used to it, just like with Daniel Bryan, just like with Bourne and everyone else who has had a name change. Listen i understand having the initial WTF moment because of his family name but if in kayfabe he says he picked this name because it was his mothers maiden name and he wanted to stand on his own, then what is the problem? Be happy that creative gave you any explanation because 9 times out of 10 they don't.
Apologizes for the rant but this is just something that gets under my skin.

If random FCW wrestler came up with the name you wouldn't care nor anyone else (except those who watch FCW). But if you're point is that "it's stupid" and won't accept the explanation then *shrugs* keep on thinking it's stupid i guess.
