One year, I don't even think I dressed up or maybe the costume was hot so I took it off. Anyway, my friend and I were Trick or Treating and he wasn't dressed up either. At one door the guys were like, "what are you supposed to be." I was wearing my New England Patriots coat so I hunched my shoulders and said "A football player" and they gave me some candy. My friend said, he didn't dress up and they just slammed the door in his face lol.

My incredibly lame Dollar Store Mr. Freeze costume from a couple years back. Blue clothes, a baldcap, white face paint, goggles, and a see-through Rubbermaid container on my head.
And I wore this to a "Party" of about 5 people, where me and another kid (a far more impressive, but for about the same price Batman) were the only people in costume. And when I say "kid" I mean we're both in our mid 20s.

Not necessarily the worst but definately the cheapest.
I remember in college I went to a club that was having a halloween party and I decided to go last minute but didnt have a costume so I turned a shirt inside out got a permanent marker and wrote Girls Gone Wild on it and got a video camera since I was a broadcast student and had access to them. I think alot of people thought I was legit cuz needless to say I had a very good night that night. The next week various sorority girls were asking and confronting me and were like please dont let that air because it would damage the reputation of thier greek group. I didnt air it but still have the tape. ;D

The year I tried to make an AzBats costume...in college. And tried to go to a party with it. It didn't go over very well.

Going as Ghostface killer (that killer from Scream) only thing legit about the costume was the mask other than that I just wore a long sleeve black shirt, a trench coat and black pants since we couldn't find the right size costume to fit me but hey at least I got the mask.

Not me, but my friend. He showed up to a party in his normal clothes and an NWO tshirt. I asked what he had come as and he said he was one of the million guys that nobody remembers who joined the NWO.

I was butters from south park.
I put on the same colored shirt, that was it. My friend was Towelie, he just pinned a towel to himself. Little planning was made.
The next year I made up for it by being Mr. Butlertron, in the greatest costume that most people have ever seen.

Probably my "Frank the Tank" from last weekend. Everyone at the party thought I was Hugh Hefner.

When I was like 13 or 14, maybe 15, I went with my sisters just dressed in street clothes(I originally wasn't going to trick or treat that year), but at the last second, decided to get some free candy, so I was going around saying I was a serial killer.

With the exception of last year, the past few years have been pretty much some variation of "Guy in a suit". And this year, I might do it again if I dress up as Tommy Wiseau.

An Ash (Army of Darkness) costume consisting of a cheap black wig, a button-down shirt, and a toy shotgun shoved up my sleeve.
And a few red-marker blood stains.

I also did an Ash costume last year, and I was quite happy with most of it, but what let it down was that I didn't have time to make a proper chainsaw (the costume was made on the day, when I had a random idea) and so I made one out of chip-boxes. The results were rather... Awful. Here's an approximation of the AOD poster from that night.

I was a rock star for six consecutive years, all awful renditions on the costume.
Oh, and I was a clown for my first Halloween. Not cute.

I was the ghost of Charlie Brown. Basically a sheet with holes in it. While in concept it was a great idea...but it looked horrible and I couldn't see well out of it.
