Saw a mention in the Foley thread about WWE creative not liking the Foley promo, so I figured I'd look up the track record of these guys, and see what they brought in terms of crativity.
Dave Langana - The man wrote ONE episode of Friends, back in 2000, and he wrote and produced "This Just In". Was also an assistant during Attitude.
Court Baurer - Promoted MLW, so that's a good thing. Main job was Velocity, so that explains something.
Rudy Fischmann - Dude has written NOTHING outside his WWE work, and produced some segments for those "clip show" deals, and a Rage Agaisnt The Machine show or something.
Brian Gerwitz - One of the mainstays. Outside WWE, he was a writer for that crap show "Jenny" starring Jenny McCarthy, and an episode of "Big Wolf On Campus".
Alex Greenfield - No credited writing experience outside WWE.
Ed Koskey - Nothing outside WWE
OK, I'm done looking. There's more, but, frankly, looking, and seeing little to no professional writing experience listed for the majority, and even less pro wrestling booking experience, it makes me wonder how in the hell they got their jobs.
I know, someone will say "how can you judge them", but you know what? I've been a writer for years, and the first thing they teach you about writing in ANY writing class is "know your subject". Do research if necessary, something. It boggles my mind that a group of people who know little to nothing about the product have been brought in to run the largest such company on the planet.
That's like bringing in Stevie Wonder and saying "ok, listen, you're a great guy, now teach these kids how to drive a car".

That explains a lot about the current creative situation in WWE.

We need more bookers and former wrestlers on the creative team and less Hollywood hacks who couldn't even do good in their other endeavours.
Of course, this won't ever happen.

Good post! That pretty much illustrates why "creative" is a bit of a misnomer in the WWE nowadays.

As an aside, regarding Dave Langana, I didn't know he was the creator of "This Just In." I absolutely LOVED that show and hate that it was cancelled after six episodes. Granted, it doesn't make him any better of a wrestling writer, but it's good to know. Brian Newport rules!

Thing is, the Hollywood hacks knowing nothing of wrestling is just what Vince wants. The only thing they'll know about "good booking," they learn from Vince. Thus, Vince creates a team he's happy with and that never, ever argues with him.
Which is why my plan of improving WWE by getting a job after college simply won't work.
Seriously, considering the people they have - do you honestly think they'd turn down a wet-behind-the-ears graduate?

As long as those former wrestlers don't come out of retirement and book themselves. Those instances usually prove to be worse than WWEs current state.

Y'know....I'm hoping that Triple H books in the future, as long as he keeps himself off TV. I don't think he'd be a half-bad booker if his ego didn't put himself first. If nothing else, Triple H is probably the highest-ranking person in WWE who actually wants to be a part of WRESTLING.

I think Shane would be pretty good at it, much netter than Stephanie, at any rate.

So basically if I apply for a job with wwe creative I will be hired.
My credentials: Absolutely nothing in the wrestling business except a fan since I was 10.
When do I start Vince? Oh and Vince is it true that creative team gets mondays off? I really like the 3 day weekends.

I think the best thing to illustrate how bad it is, in an interview with one of the first Diva Search girls, she mentioned how she was going to say something about Katie Vick and creative had no idea who that was. ....

Court Bauer works for them? Didn't he run MLW into the ground?

It takes:
Previous writing credentials (good or bad) Knowing what wrestling is about (basic knowledge to trivia buff)
and
A total lack of continuity, unacceptance of good ideas, and long term memory loss of bad gimmicks that didn't work several decades ago.
If you fit these requirements, apply today!

I'm out. I would accept too many plausible, sense-making ideas.

Didn't they have a woman from Nickelodeon who thought the blood was fake?
Also, on a sort of releated note, is it true Heyman was writing movie scripts at pitching them to Hollywood executives at some point?
