Seriously, I know a lot of people like to crap on the post Black album era... but this really is one of the most perfect songs they ever created, and I rarely hear it even get mentioned.

I agree. A lot of Metallica songs post-Black are underrated, and I find that people tend to crap on the Load-ReLoad era far too much. So many good songs came out of it that allowed the band to mature and grow as artists, instead of stagnate.
A strong reason why S&M is my favorite Metallica album, and my favorite album ever. It's one of the most vulnerable songs I've ever heard, and utterly beautiful.

I actually prefer the Black album/Load/Re-Load era to any of Metallica's other music. Most of their earlier stuff (and their latest CD) is way too heavy for my tastes.

That is a really good song. S&M is also my favorite thing they ever did.

I don't understand how people can crap on the Load/Reload era. Some of my favorite Metallica songs come from Load. King Nothing, Bleeding Me, Hero of the Day, Until It Sleeps, all great ones.

I think the problem w/ post Black album Metallica is the hit and miss nature of it. Load is a very solid album, then Reload is ok... but has a lot of throw away songs compared to most of their previous stuff, then St. Anger was kind of a travesty. Just horrible mixing and drum sounds, and no solos, so Kirk may as well have not even been there. Then Death Magnetic was a return to form.

OMFG. Huge Metallica fan here. When I saw the topic title, my first thought was "The Outlaw Torn"
I was SHOCKED to see it as the subject of this topic. Awesome job, sir.

I'd also like to mention
Killing Joke = Under-rated
Metallica covering Killing Joke = Seriously under-rated

I would like to throw out Fixxxer and Devil's Dance just to add to the discussion. Hell, the whole second half of the Reload album. Carpe Diem Baby, Bad Seed, Low Man's Lyric, etc... all awesome songs that never get talked about among the best Metallica songs.

Mentioning Fixxxer (another one of my favs) reminds me... anyone else kinda think of "The Outlaw Torn", "Bleeding Me" and "Fixxer" as almost like, a loose trilogy of songs? They have a very similar overall vibe and feel to them.

A return to travesty? The questions...they abound.

I think he meant St. Anger which was a travesty by Metallica standards but I still thought Frantic, Some Kind of Monster, The Unnamed Feeling, and the title track were pretty good. Death Magnetic was awesome and Outlaw Torn is seriously underrated.

Reload is a very underrated album, but it containing some of Metallica's best songs? Not even close IMO.

Good to see some love for my old 80's heavy metal band Metal-Lycan. We dressed up like werewolves and it was a howling good time. I know. I don't think I was trying very hard either.

Fixxer and The Outlaw Torn are pretty good, but from that era nothing even comes close to King Nothing.

I love Death Magnetic but, there is only one thing that keeps me from listening to it a lot. It is so damn loud! I am afraid to put my Ipod on shuffle for fear of Cyanide coming on

No Leaf Clover is under-rated as well sure it's only a S&M version but still I think that's under-rated.
I liked Re-load album allot. Load had some good songs. St. Anger I listened to it at first then I didn't bother. Death Magnetic eh..... still iffy on that/
