Glad to see he's getting job offers, sometimes all somebody needs is somebody to give them a chance. Plus the revealing of the felon sheet is trying to make something out of nothing, dude admitted that he had past problems, not exactly shocking news there.

I like how people assume all homeless people are talentless scum of the Earth and that's such a shock that any of them would have some sort of skill. They weren't born homeless. This, this, a MILLION times this. We have a terrible habit in society to assume that, if you didn't make it, if you fell down on your luck, or if you made bad choices along the way, that you somehow have nothing to offer society, and that you've brought every ounce of misery on yourself. The reality is, the truth is infinitely more complicated. Are there people who are homeless out of their own combined sheer laziness and stupidity? I'm sure there are. But are there homeless people who would run like hell for a legitimate job if the opportunity to earn a real, living wage arose? I'd argue that's the truth for the MAJORITY of homeless people. The poor aren't to be hated, aren't to simply be pitied, aren't there for people to look down on or judge; the majority of them are people who simply need some help, and would contribute to society if there were more opportunities put in place to help them learn usable job skills and put those skills to use.

Of course, there are those of us out there who DON'T have any talents that we could use to make money off of, and will be homeless in a second should we lose our job for any reason. These days, it's too expensive to even be able to take classes in the sorts of skills a person can use to make enough money to earn a living on one's own. The truth is, not everyone can be saved, but it's not right for anyone to have the power to decide who does and who doesn't, either. It's really too complicated for me to say it in a way that sounds like anything other than complete idiocy, though :/

I knew from the minute that his story broke that there is no way he'd be able to handle fame..... Let's not jump to conclusions now, it didn't say he got busted for drugs or anything like that, one thing like this doesn't mean he is unable to handle fame.

The story seemed a little too perfect. I read in the Boston Globe that Williams had multiple children living in the area where he panhandled and offered to let him live with them until he got back on his feet, but he absolutely refused to. I think we now understand why he refused their aid.

I think we now understand why he refused their aid. Why? Because maybe he felt he'd rather try to get back on his feet on his own. Apparently, this argument started because of money (doesn't say who asked but with all his offers, it could've been his daughter) and neither will press charges. I don't see how this is "the end of the story."

This just in; evil homeless man's rise to fame actually a ploy to take over the world with his weather machine.
In other news, I seriously can't believe how many people want to see this guy fall on his face.

Doesn't matter that this guy has apparently had a hard time, people want to see him fail so they can laugh or say I told you so. It's sad, but what can ya do?

It's really too complicated for me to say it in a way that sounds like anything other than complete idiocy, though :/ I'm certainly not arguing over how difficult it is to make something of yourself these days: college prices are outrageous, and even night school isn't an option for many people who are trapped working multiple jobs, long hours, maybe even attempting to raise a family. The state of the working class today is perilous, at best, and I could go on and on about the inequality and top-heavy nature of the current system, but I'd have to warn and/or ban myself for throwing this thread into a complete political upheaval. I'm just pointing out that if the system were made at least partially more fair, in various different ways, I highly doubt that most homeless/poor people would willingly stay the way they are and not take advantage of better education/skills teaching/employment.

Apparently, this argument started because of money (doesn't say who asked but with all his offers, it could've been his daughter) and neither will press charges. I don't see how this is "the end of the story." I will say that if his children were willing to help him and he chose to stay homeless outta pride; that's his own fault. Granted that's speculation, but if true that's just ludicrous. I will agree that I don't get taking glee on when/if this guy falls again. I do see the attitude that it's gone too far the other way with the praise as well as in 'look at this magical feel good story of the homeless man with the incredible voice' because as has been stated several times in the thread, it's not like he started out homeless; he went to school for broadcasting and worked in the field before, and thus is well-trained; so it's not like he was showing off some amazing hidden talent that was able to get him off the street. He was given an opportunity to fix the mistakes in life that led him to be on the street in the first place, after he had cultivated that talent. That's admirable in its own right, but not quite as Disneyish as him just being 'Golden Voiced Homeless Man'
