I watched some of it and could not stand it. It is way too nerdy. Yeah, maybe the previews that were broadcast where I live were just feeding me misinformation, but it just seems like an overload of "80s and early-90s video game memes, lolz." Which just seems like total pandering and patronizing, which can turn me away from a movie almost right away.

And the whole "win a fight and the opponent bursts into a pile of coins" thing. But I didn't find it overwhelming, it's just part of the charm.

This. Movie. Sucks.
I saw 3 Michael Cera movies all around the same time, and they were all terrible (Scott Pilgrim, Youth in Revolt, Year One). Out of the 3, the best review I could give to any of them was year one, which I summed up to some other friends who asked me how it was by saying "Well, it certainly was a movie".
The only movie this guy has done that was any good was Superbad.

It was definitely one of my favorite movies of last year. Of course,I'm in the minority and actually enjoy most of Michael Cera's movies. The only movie I didn't like of his was Superbad. I haven't seen Youth In Revolt yet.

Watched it. Loved it. Have never read the comic. It's just a fun movie. Highly recommend the comic series. Word of warning: It may differ your thoughts on the movie, due to the comics having a ton more stuff in it. Hell, I highly recommend anything in the SP universe. The game, the soundtrack, the score.

Anyone who won't watch this film because of Cera is an ignoramus. It's a very solid movie; I wonder if most people around here refuse to enjoy it because it has "hipster" leanings (somehow).

Yeah. I mean psh, Michael Cera isn't my favorite actor but I think he's an alright dude. Us of the jewfro'd variety gotta stick together, but it irritated me as well the amount of people who turned away from the movie just because he was in it. It was a damned enjoyable experience.

Not a Cera fan at all, but he was pretty perfect for this movie, which turned out to be one of my favorites of the year.

So, Team Ramona or Team Knives? Does Team Ramona exist?

I've got no intention of ever watching this film. While I guess I should be in their target audience, the whole "DUDE THIS IS EPIC WIN AND AWESOME, DID YOU SEE ALL THOSE RETRO GAME REFERENCES AN STUFF?!" vibe I'm getting from Scott Pilgrim does a fairly decent job at putting me off completely. The way people here were raving about the movie upon its release didn't help either.

loved it. it's in my top 3 for the year. Brandon Routh totally steals the movie in his one scene.

The comic-book sums up why I love comic-books. It manages to be both funny, sad, touching, and brilliant at the same time.

Which just seems like total pandering and patronizing, which can turn me away from a movie almost right away. That's the complete opposite of what I saw. What originally drew me to the comics was that video game culture was just there and taken for granted. They're the kind of people who can ask if they remember the Sonic 3 level select code in the middle of a phone conversation, because damnit, it's the hardest one to do. And they're the kind of people to respond to a taunt in mid-battle with a Monkey Island insult. Is that pandering? Not to me, because I'm exactly the same kind of person. If that's pandering, then I'm pandering in real life. It's also the reason that I exploded with glee when I heard that Edgar Wright was directing, because things like Spaced proved that he could do that kind of thing, be it the Evil Dead jump cuts, alternative ways of playing Tomb Raider ("It made me want to drown things!") or any other of the numerous subtle references. And the movie didn't disappoint. There's things like the use of Sonic 2 sound effects that people wouldn't notice unless they were already familiar with it. It's not like they're just yelling "All Your Base" when it's irrelevant. Only complaint about the movie is that there wasn't more Plumtree in the soundtrack.

Easily one of my favorite movies of all time.
For people who don't want to see the entire movie or think it wouldn't be for them, then just try and youtube some of the fights between Scott and the Evil Exes.
They're f***ing brilliant!

I've tried to watch that movie 3 times, and each time I get about a half hour into it and say "snork it!" and turn it off in disgust.

Anyway, I'm Team Knives all the way. All throughout the movie I was hoping Scott would end up again with Knives, because she was such a nice girl who absolutely loved Scott while Ramona was all sorts of problems.
And it would've been the best movie I'd seen in a while if i hadn't seen True Grit 2 weeks earlier.
