A minor pet peeve that only came to light last night is two different channels running re-runs of the same show at the same time.
I recently started getting hooked on How I Met Your Mother from watching re-runs on Lifetime at like 11. Then I discover that my local My9 affiliate runs them as well at 7. Then I come to discover that Lifetime shows re-runs at 7 as well, from different times in the show. It was fun bouncing back and forth seeing different parts of the different shows, but in trying to catch up with the show, it's difficult to keep up.
On a related note, it bugs me when a show will have a re-run on say WGN, then the same block of re-runs happens the next day on Comedy Central. I can't tell you how many times that has happened.
Maybe I need to pick my battles, but that is really annoying.

You know, it wasn't that long ago that when a channel got the syndication rights to a show, that channel would be the only one allowed to show it for however long the contract is for.
Nowadays, if you want to watch a show like Seinfeld, guess what, it's on six different channels throughout the day. Granted, they might show different episodes, but it definately loses it's specialness.
Heck, I wonder why Nick-at-Nite, TVLand, and similar channels even bother. Heck, a bigger question might be why a show like Seinfeld isn't on those channels

The Nanny and the Golden Girls tend to be on at least 2 channels at once at night here.

well there are only a few companies that own all these networks now, like Viacom for instance and they just throw them around anywhere. I swear this is a huge problem that everyone is ignoring. Wonder how many people have lost work over the last few years while being bought up my a major company?

I hate it when channels owned by the same company like TV land and Nick at Nite air like the Nanny at the same time. Now ignoring your feelings about the Nanny why not put on a different show so you can get someone else who isn't watching the Nanny on the other network and expand your potential audience?

Yep, this was the case with Mama's family a couple of years ago when my brother and I would sometimes watch it on the "ion Television" channel and flipped the channels noticing that it was showing on some other channel too.

Family Guy and Star Trek: The Next Generation both fall into the daily multiple channel rerun catagory as well.

For a while, Scrubs was on atleast 5 different channels, Comedy Central, MTV, TV Land and 2 local affiliates owned by the same company. Arrested Development reruns were run on atleat 3 channels, Spike, HdNET, and that video game channel whose name escapes me right now, which on the surface doesn't seem like a bad thing, but when a show only had 3 seasons, it gets old rather quick. Thats probably why I never picked up AD on DVD.

How I Met Your Mother is on WAY too much. It's a good show, but overkilled because of how often I end up seeing the same episodes.

A few years ago it seemed no matter what time of day "Fresh Prince" was airing on some channel. What made it worse for me is I really really hate that show.

Not a TV show, but I remember as a kid that in order to compete with Shark Week on the then fledgling Discovery Channel, TBS and TNT used to show the JAWS movies at the same time, but often one would start at 3:55 and the other would start at 4:05 so one would be slightly ahead of the other. Used to be fun flipping back and forth and (since we didn't have a VCR and DVD wasn't around yet) making it look like the movie was skipping back and forth.
Great times. ;D

Tv stations have taken a "top 40 radio" approach to their shows-they show them over and over and over and often times repeat the most popular episodes. Then when they burn out, like Fresh Prince, they bring in something else and play it to death til everyone is sick of it.
I can't imagine anyone buying some of these shows on dvd like it was mentioned when they are on so damn much.

This is why I'm glad I don't watch too much TV anymore. I still watch TV shows, just not as they are being aired. The NFL and WWE are about all I watch on TV, sometimes I'll flip through the channels for the sake of it, and might find something interesting, but thats rare.

King of the Hill is on MyNetwork, and Cartoon Network, plus I have two episodes OnDemand plus the Netflix queue on the Wii.
Odds are very great I'll watch a couple of random episodes thru Netflix, then discover they're OnDemand AND on one of the other two stations that same night.
Wouldn't be so bad if the episodes they showed were halfway decent, but it's always the ones you can't stand that get replayed.

My FiOS DVR can record two shows at once, and my wife has it set to record the Gilmore Girls. Despite my setting the DVR to disregard episodes that are already recorded, it does it anyway.
So, what happens when I get home from work? The DVR is recording two IDENTICAL episodes of Gilmore Girls at the same time that are on Oxygen/Soapnet/or Hallmark. To make matters worse, if I cancel one of the episodes it'll just pick up recording on one of the HD channels. So there are at least 4 channels showing the same damned episode of the show at the same time!

I cannot imagine HD adding anything to Gilmore Girls.
