So what happened to Nightcrawler? {Spoiler}A human/sentinel hybrid anticipated where he was going to teleport and stuck his arm out, impaling him. He then teleported away to save the then current plot device of the series. {Spoiler}Ouch.

Human Torch was never integrated into the Avengers or any major crossover the way the others have been, so I am ok with this.
The team, even though they will have their mourning phase, works better without him. Sue can't be seen for what she is, Reed stretches too thin and Ben puts up a brick wall.....the hothead isn't as needed, from an emotional or story/conflict point of view.*
*I assume in 2-3 years this will be undone

If this leads to the return of a dark and edgy H.E.R.B.I.E. to replace Johnny, then the entire scenario will have been worth it.

Stupid way to bring attention to a title. No one stays dead in comics. Even Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes were brought back from the dead.
Why do folks keep falling for these kind of publicity stunts? Just give folks a good comic book. That should be enough.

Just give folks a good comic book. That should be enough. It is a story, and just a comic book. I have read it, the book isn't a stunt, it is a damned good story. Marketing makes it look like a stunt. Hickman has been slow burning this since he started. Don't look at it so deep, look at it as just a good comic book, and that is what you have.

It still bugs me that in a book featuring characters as dull as the entire Richards family, they kill Johnny Storm. I know he'll be back eventually (probably in time for the FF's next big-screen outing), but in the mean time, I won't be paying any attention to the Fantastic Four series.
I know, comments like that usually bring out the "things have to evolve"/"whiny fanboy" stuff, but it's really not that. Like I said, they could have killed Reed or Sue and I wouldn't have minded. I just think that without Johnny, Thing is going to suffer because a lot of what made the FF so fun to read was their relationship.

I don't know...they did just fine without Johnny when Herbie the Robot replaced him for the 1979 cartoon show.

It's probably because my first taste of the FF was my dad's comic collection from the 60's and 70's. Johnny has been my favorite since age 5. There's definitely some bias in me, I won't lie.

Hickman and Waid before him have really change Reed and Sue. Sue bitch slapped Namor for Neptune's sake, and put him in his place. Reed has show his heart and his love for his family (and in one of my favorite FF stories ever, he finally revealed why he calls himself Mr. Fantastic, and it was a sweet touching moment that made Reed feel human). The stuff with the kids has been great for the entire FF but especially Reed because he finally realized they are HIS kids, they got his mind and he can relate to them. I used to hate Reed, but my god over Hickman's run I have grow to love the character, and now is a terrible time for him to die because of all his growth. Plus he is still working on Solving Everything. No, Reed needs to keep going, so does Sue, they are developing way too much. I have finally given up on the spoilers stuff, I tried, but every one has said who it isn't and the thread is tagged. Blarg.
