It hasn't started snowing yet, but basically every school in the area is closed, including the colleges. Snow day for me! ;D Same here for the most part, BUT The University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University have yet to officially close. I'm hoping that the admins of both universities wise up and cancel classes.

We're not getting snow or ice here. We're just getting wind chills of 20 to 40 below zero, I think the hottest it's been the last couple of days has been 12 degrees. We're not even getting into the teens.

NW Indiana getting hit hard.
Kids' schools called saying "Students will be dismissed early". They were dismissed at 2:35pm, which is the NORMAL dismissal. So, kids had a regular day of school Tuesday. Then they call at 4pm, letting us know "Students will be dismissed early", even though all students should be at home. 15 minutes later, they call again to let us know classes are canceled for today.
Where I work, we were going to be released at 5pm (which is odd in-and-of itself; they NEVER send anyone home early), then they changed it to 3pm, then they finally let us go at 2:30pm. The plant's shut down today, and I just don't see then opening tomorrow. There's at least 15" on the roads, and I know our managers don't assume we all live on major arteries of our respective towns. (Side streets go untouched. We're the last option.)

Wow. They closed down my work for the day. That NEVER happens. My husband is at work, but he gets off soon. I hope he gets home ok.
The snow is blowing and the windows are iced over, its very pretty. But no one is on the roads and those that are are creeping along. The drifting is whats really getting us though.
Local colleges are closed, and most businesses are shut down. I guess we are lucky though, we didn't get it as bad as we were supposed to.
I'm going to go get the ice scraper and scrape my bay window.

there is just an ungodly amount of snow in my drive way, it's impossible to tell that I cleared a walk way and the driveway last night the plows haven't gone through my neighborhood yet tomorrow I'm supposed to be flying to to Florida from Mitchell in Milwaukee.....at this point in time the odds of that flight taking place looks like little to none

We got our big snow-fall last month though that is par for the course in this city; yesterday we averaged a low of -46; unbelievable. Sometimes I don't know why I live here.

We're under a Level 3 Warning right now in Toledo, and everywhere is closed in the county (including the colleges here).

I'm actually posting from a snowbank right now.
Ok not really, but my driveway has been a bitch to clear of snow. I may have pulled my back from just that alone. My brother who lives in the city got it the worst since he lived by wrigley field and apparently the stadium became sentient and started to attack people.

You know the downside of all these cancellations? I have to decide whether to keep to the syllabus and give my students their first test next week despite missing this week's lecture or to postpone it and completely screw up the flow of the rest of the semester.

Just an update on the Chicago area: Lake Shore Drive is finally open again. They had to tow over 1,000 cars from the Northbound lanes before they could even plow and clear the street.
Shoveled my back walkway just so I could get to the trash can at 9am yesterday. Started the front walk, then lake effect snow hit a little after 10am. Didn't stop until about 2pm. Did my front walkways, helped a neighbor dig a parking space for his car (he was stuck halfway in the street) and it took a total of about 4 hours. Forget the plows that never came, a few guys with snowblowers cleared our part of the street. Everything I did was for naught.
Plows finally hit my street about 7:30pm, when I decided to start digging the car out.
Now, with the frigid cold (below zero temps, wind chills at least -10), the streets that have been cleared are covered with ice. Wonderful. I called in, I'm not risking my life to get to work.
