I normally don't do the multiplayer battles because I'm way too OCD when it comes to Pokemon and I think I might throttle something in rage as a result. So I don't have to worry about that. A decently educated player can handle pretty much anything AI can throw at them. It's when you're facing another player that things get trickier, as it becomes a guessing game when they might switch Pokemon out, etc. My friend never expected my Tauros equipped with Blizzard when he busted out his Dragonite.

Is there anyway to explain advanced pokemon tactics to someone who has no idea what the hell you guys are talking about?

I guess I'm in the minority who thinks these new ones are horrible. Between the existence of the poke ball mushroom, an ice cream (The first form is fine, but then it evolves an ice cone and a slime face), Gear and an evolution that would make Magnaton and Dugtrio blush, 3 legendaries which basically is just the same sprite recoloured, a Garbage Bag (A poor mans Grimer and Muk), nonsensical final forms for two of the three starters, ideas we have seen before (Psychic Tapir, Blind bat that will no doubt be in every cave), a candle pulled right out of Digimon, some just generally horribly designed lines (The tadpole and the 2X4 guy spring to mind), overdesigned messes (What the hell is Shinpora anyway?), Chobomaki NOT evolving into Shubarugo, some unusual typings (Fire/Fighting starter AGAIN and while I like Desukan, he should probably be part Ground. Something Egyptian related that can be hurt by sandstorm? Screw dat) and so on and so forth.
There are SOME awesome ones (2nd Wotter, The Dark/Ground Croc... even if his final forms nose is a little.... phallic, Afro Bull, American Eagle, Both Fossil Pokemon, The Bulldog of the new legendary dogs and the evolved forms of the fire and grass Monkeys from the top of my head) but the majority just makes me groan.

Anything Pokemon dating back to the original 151 is there, including game mechanics & strategies for competitive battling.

Here's my Isshu team:
*Shinpora (Psychic/Flying) *Desukan (Ghost) *Roopushin (Fighting) *Aakeosu (Rock/Flying) *Sazando (Dark/Dragon) *Gamageroge (Water/Ground)
I figure to have some of my team to have multiple types, but I want to see if I go without a Fire or a Grass Pokemon (I'm choosing "Smugleaf" no matter what).

Would it really hurt the game if these stats weren't hidden?

Aw, finally they have a Water / Ghost type and it looks stupid.
But yeah, a few good ones in there, but for the most part these do nothing to change my opinion about the game nor the idea of having to use this bunch exclusively.
553, by the way, is going to make Palkia very jealous.

^ And THAT, ladies and gentleman, is why this franchise isn't going to end for a LONG time.

Wonder how the American sales will go when they're finally released. And, when will the Ken Sugimori artwork come out for the other Pokemon? I want to see if there are any more differences in the "Osu" trio than what the sprites indicate.

And back in 1999 people thought it would be just another fad like Beanie Babies.

So all the feedback I've been reading from the japanese press/fans and people who bootlegged it:
Apparently this is one of the best pokemon games ever made.
I don't know if that will hold up though, I kinda don't like how there's a bunch of pokemon who won't evolve until they're in their 40's.

Pokemon.com wil have the official English names of the starters on Monday I will laugh so hard if the grass one is not called anything similar to Smugleaf (Which I doubt it will be) while the other two keep the names Wotter and Pignite. If only for the rage reaction of a certain chan site.

Grass Starter: Snivy (snake + ivy) Fire Starter: Tepig (tepid + pig) Water Starter: Oshawott (?)
Don't care what they call it. It will always be Smugleaf.

For those who don't know, the reason why some of these new Pokemon designs look very...unPokemon-like, is because some of them weren't designed and/or created by Ken Sugimori, the original Pokemon artist/designer. The snowcone, for example, was designed by James Turner, making it (one of) the first Pokemon created by an American.
That would explain a lot of these designs, especially Goruugu's, who looks like The Iron Giant.
