I'm perfectly fine with the Panthers taking Cam. At this point, a no-armed man would be better than what we have.

His only chance at success is to go somewhere with a good QB coach and who will sit him down and say "You're not starting for 2-3 years while we teach you how to play. When you learn our system, then you'll start." If he's thrown out there Sept. 10th or whatever as a starter, he's going to get chewed up and spit out. If he thinks he can just make one read and then try to run people over, then he's got another thing coming. I'm sure that will end when Ray Lewis or Urlacher plants him in the dirt or Harrison spears him with his helmet. James Harrison is fined $25,000 for his inevitable sack on Cam Newton. Dude, that would be hilarious if they started up a fine fund that Harrison can pay into all season.

Tiki Barber has filed the paperwork to officially come out of retirement.
Barber hasn't played since walking away from the Giants after racking up 2,127 total yards in his age-31 season of 2006. Returning to the NFL after four seasons away is unprecedented for a player of Tiki's age. The closest comp may be Ricky Williams, who missed 2004, 2006 and all but one game of 2007 before returning in 2008 at age 31. Also similar to Williams' scenario, Barber recently claimed to be broke after going through a costly divorce. At age 36 with fresh legs, his upside is third-down back. The Giants still held his rights when he retired, so they'll have to decide whether to bring him back or release him once he's reinstated.

How the hell is Tiki broke? He has a steady job writing/covering the NFL for Yahoo! Sports.......
Unless his wife pulled a Linda Hogan in their divorce terms.....

Also, regarding Cam Newton, I think ANY team taking him in the first round period is too high. I say, at best, he's a second round pick, and even then that is pushing it.
The first round picks should go to players who could play that season. Cam can't play this season. As already said, he'd be chewed up and spat out. He needs to sit and learn.
It may bruise the hell out of his ego, but yeah.....he shouldn't even be around the first round.

With all the teams that need QBs, somebody will take him in the 1st round. If the Panthers don't the Bills will, if the Bills don't the Bengals will, Harbaugh could get him, I wouldn't put it past ol' Shanny to grab him at 10, or Seattle could think about the future and grab him when they pick. I don't think Newton is worth a 1st rounder, I look at him as a less talented, more hyped Tebow, but somebody will take him 1st round.

Newton is pretty much a less talented, but much faster, Tim Tebow. See, the problem is, neither guy is truly a good QB. They are basically different position players with QB skills. Tebow is a running back/tight end with throwing skills and Newton is a wide receiver/cornerback with throwing skills. And hell, I like Tebow now, but even then, he had no business being picked in the first round. He was another 2nd-3rd round at the earliest kind of guy.

The idea of Tiki Barber coming back is hilarious. Though he won't be coming back as a Giant. As soon as he un-retires, the Giants are releasing his contract, so he can be a free agent. He could be good on a team that's REALLY desperate for an RB. But there's no reason for the Giants to hang onto him when running backs are about the last thing they need to improve on. Bradshaw is essentially a much younger, faster Barber who doesn't fumble the ball as much (and given Bradshaw's tendency last year to fumble, that's saying something). Also, regarding Cam Newton, I think ANY team taking him in the first round period is too high. I say, at best, he's a second round pick, and even then that is pushing it. Funny because I think of Tebow as a less talented, more hyped Cam Newton. Though I don't see either as a JaMarcus Russell-tier bust of epic proportions. I think you have to TRY to be that much a bust. Cam's definitely a phenomenal athlete. And while not a phenomenal passer, can at least throw the football pretty well (unlike Timmy). That said, I don't think he'll make it as a pro QB unless he gets a coach that understands and works his strengths into has gameplan as well as learning the game and compensating his weaknesses. The major reason Tebow was a huge success at the college level is because Urban Meyer is a fantastic coach that did just that. Well, besides college defenses not being nearly as tough as the typical NFL defense. It may take a long time for that to happen for either guy. Cam Newton in particular reminds me a lot of Michael Vick (hopefully without the urge to kill helpless pitbulls) where it could take him until his early 30's for him to become a truly great QB. I think out of the current crop of college QB's, Andrew Luck has by far the best chance of making it as a great NFL QB out the gate.

And he would be a GIGANTIC cornerback, he's the size of a big outside linebacker.

I don't think the Panters are going to draft Newton. Clausen bit them in the butt. They're not going to take a risk on another huge signing bonus. I think it's a golden opportunity for the Bengals to trade Carson Palmer, since he's hell bent on not playing in Cincinnati this year. We actually didn't spend too much on clausen contract wise if I remember correctly... Clausen was signed to a 4 year deal with a guaranteed $2.533 million, according to PFT. The fourth year of the contract has an escalator worth up to $2.85 million.

I'd sack my own QB to get that money. They never said it had to be the opposing team's QB.

I don't think he has the speed or size to be a RB, but TE I can definitely see him as. Cam I can actually see as a RB. Not sure about WR, but on the defensive side of things he can probably make a decent LB or DE.

I'd sack my own QB to get that money. They never said it had to be the opposing team's QB. Vernon Gholston is an under-the-radar all-time NFL draft bust. Sure, we all remember Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf or Andre Ware or Akili Smith, but those were all quarterbacks. If a quarterback struggles after the high expectations of an early draft pick, they will obviously be labeled as a bust, but for a linebacker, drafted sixth overall, to not record a single sack or forced fumble in four seasons, is absolutely incredible. It'd be akin to a receiver not catching a single pass, or a running back not scoring a touchdown. And it's not like Gholston was never on the field. He was given plenty of time and a lengthy leash by the Jets to validate his draft status. In 20 years, people will still remember Russell, people will still remember Leaf, but Vernon Gholston will be forgotten as a historically-awful draft pick, which is stunning, considering the history of awful draft picks for the New York Jets.

According to Charlie Bernstein of FoxSportsFlorida.com, impending free agent Mike Sims-Walker has been "contacted" by the Rams and the Texans.
Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris won't rule out signing soon-to-be free agent Tiki Barber to play with his twin brother, Ronde.

It's especially hilarious, considering that he was groomed to be a big name on television and retired partly due to it, but managed to blow that spectacularly what with him stepping out on his pregnant wife and generally not being all that great of a TV personality. Still, him retiring and calling out Eli Manning's weaknesses was the best thing that happened to the Giants in recent memory. So, I thank triflin' Tiki for that.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is still pretty young, and did a good job last season. I see them giving him a full season before making a decision on his future. Clausen was signed to a 4 year deal with a guaranteed $2.533 million, according to PFT. The fourth year of the contract has an escalator worth up to $2.85 million.
