Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed on a "basic" compromise that would install a rookie wage scale to replace the current rookie salary cap.

www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1813/philip-riversPlayers Association boss DeMaurice Smith announced Wednesday that the players will under no circumstances agree to an 18-game NFL season. It's common knowledge that the players don't want 18 games, but this is the first time Smith has said it so publicly and adamantly. According to SI's Jim Trotter, an extended regular season is "off the negotiating table." Said Smith, "18 games is not in the best interest of our players' safety, so we're not doing it." We don't want an 18-game season, either, but we also worry about the players overplaying their hand. They got a big leg up with Judge Doty's $4 billion ruling on March 1, and now appear to be pushing most -- if not all -- of their demands to the max. We'd bet heavily against an agreement before Friday's extension deadline.

Not so fast..... The laywer did 2 interviews this morning on Boston radio stations where he says even *he* has "a lot of doubts about this". The sheriff down there said that Merriweather isnt on ANY police reports. Something about this stinks. He supposedly almost kills2 guys and the story comes out now via their laywer? Nobody else saw this? Nobody leaked the story? Lets see what happens here

Even if he's found not guilty or not liable or not even involved, I still want the Patriots to rid themselves of this guy. With the emergence of Patrick Chung, and with James Sanders still providing use as a safety, I think it's time for the Patriots to cut their losses and sell Brandon Meriweather off to the highest bidder. I mean, there has to be a market for a grossly overrated, yet somehow twice-elected Pro Bowler, right? I've never been a Meriweather fan. He always goes for the big hit as opposed to the smart tackle. His insistence on attempting to light up his opponents up led to a fine and a benching after he tried to behead Todd Heap, and his penchant for attempting to deliver the knock out blow led to an easy 66-yard touchdown pass from Matt Flynn to James Jones, after Meriweather went to destroy Jones but instead clocked Kyle Arrington. Not only does Meriweather always go for the big hit, more often than not, he either misses, or he connects but doesn't jar the ball loose. Safeties like Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, hell, even Bob Sanders, go for the big hit when they know they can knock the ball loose, but when they can't, they just make the tackle. Meriweather doesn't seem to have that concept down yet, and after four seasons in the NFL, he's probably not going to ever get it down. I say they trade him and let him become someone else's headache. Unfortunately, his legal troubles will kill any value that he has on the market, even more than his complete inability to make an open-field tackle.

GM Marty Hurney is reportedly the only member of the Panthers' front office or coaching staff still maintaining faith in Jimmy Clausen as a potential starter.
According to SI.com's Don Banks, "everyone else in Carolina, and many coaches and personnel men around the league for that matter" believe the Panthers desperately need to find a new quarterback.

Citing sources close to the labor talks, SI.com's Peter King reports trades and free-agent signings could be allowed by late April or May regardless of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Details are convoluted, but the gist of it is that the NFLPA would decertify, owners would institute a lockout, and the players would then seek an injunction from historically pro-labor Judge David S. Doty. If the injunction is granted, the 2011 league year would commence with trading and free-agency open. The situation is obviously fluid, but there's a possibility that the league year could start the same week as the NFL Draft without benefit of a CBA. Friday night's deadline will determine whether there is an agreement, an extension of talks, or a coming lockout.

So there's one thing that is confusing me and I can't find an answer, is decertification good or bad? Like does this mean there'll be a lockout, or is this an attempt to prevent a lockout?

Like does this mean there'll be a lockout, or is this an attempt to prevent a lockout? it's an attempt by the players to get football sooner because they can sue the owners, but it's not a good thing cause in decertifying they give up their collective bargaining rights meaning they will get locked out.

So...I have to sit here and try to beg for jobs well below my education, and the NFLPA/NFL cannot figure out how to split $9 BILLION DOLLARS!!! With probably another $5 BILLION coming in the next 7-10 years! Now it's going into the courts, where it could be tied up through the season.
Just get this over with already.
