Shouldn't the Flyers fans be on the same list as the Eagles and Phillies fans?

You can be a fan, just don't go overboard and end up being a jerk for it. Also, accept that you were beaten by better teams and move on. Just because you are a huge fan of the team does not mean that you can't be civil with the opposing fans. I hate to put it this way, but you don't know. There was nowhere to 'move on' to when four major sports teams could not win one championship from 1983 to 2008- an entire generation growing well into adulthood with nothing but failure. Only a Clevelander may be able to understand, on any level. Yeah.........and now you have one......MOVE ON!!!!! Why do you think we call Red Sox fans hypocrites? Even a Clevelander would say you are not worthy of sympathy and need to be more civil.

Shouldn't the Flyers fans be on the same list as the Eagles and Phillies fans? C'mon, Filthadelphia can't dominate ALL of the list. Though I think in the case of the Flyers the actual team has more of a reputation of being dirty than the fanbase. When you consider they play in Philly, that's saying something.

Didn't a bunch of reporters from Montreal get their tires slashed during Game 5 last year in the playoffs simply because their cars have Quebec license plates?

As to Boston the Red Sox, Philadelphia is the Eagles. And the bandwagon Cowboys/Laker etc fan types around here, or the NY bandwagoners (I live on the NJ side of the river and people turn coat on the their culture despite being hoagie-eating, Philadelphia-accented residents of the Delaware Valley- they think 'NJ' somehow entitles them to the Yankees or Giants) are just as uncivil in the always venomous, sometimes violent sports fan culture of this region. You don't know. It's all about cultural identity- this runs real real deep. I wish I could say it's just a game.

How am I supposed to take his opinion of LSU fans seriously when they use this: as the picture for it?!

I love being able to not base my cultural identify on rich people playing a game personally, and on the owners bilking cities out of millions for their own benefit. Even in a city that's rabid about a certain team, it's great to be able to get over and move on.
There's so much more to any city than their teams, but owners and leagues have done a fantastic job of making it seem like that's not true and the only element that defines a city and identifies it's successes and failures is their devotion to the team the owner profits on at the expense of the citizens.
But if that's all people of a certain city have to hang their hat on, that's their deal.

Gotta admit, the Cowboys thing was spot on. I hate to say it, as some of us are rational, but the majority of the fanbase can be deluded as hell. Agreed sadly, And I really want to smack the individual who came up with the America's team thing. I can't stand it.

I think my least favorite thing about Cowboys fandom (and boy there's a lot of it), is why the stadium has a giant hole in the roof: "So God can watch his team play." And Jerruh REVELS in this egotism, too. To the point where the Cowboys would be my least favorite team in the NFL by a large margin even if I wasn't a Giants (or Eagles or Redskins) fan. It's just extremely hard for me to root for a team like that.

I think it's definitely more of an East Coast thing to be completely intense about a professional team (Philly/Eagles, Boston/Red Sox, NY/Yankees and probably Knicks in the coming years). I've noticed it myself even since I've moved out to the midwest. I know plenty of die-hard Colts fans, and they get upset after losses, but they just seem to move on pretty easily. I used to be miserable for days after tough losses. Now, I still get a bit crazy after really big losses, but I just don't take it as hard as I used to.
Philadelphia is like the kid who gets messed with in school who has a short temper. If people (media, opposing fans) left Philly alone and didn't constantly bring up things that happened 40 years ago and have been blown out of proportion, then they probably would be along the same lines as the rest of the fans around that area. But Philly fans constantly take the bait because they embrace their identity rather than change it, so they act out.
Now I do believe there is a bit of hypocrisy/laziness with the national media in terms of singling out every bad thing Philly does. The 2008 NLCS comes to mind where the national media never even mentioned that a number of Phillies fans, with kids, had knives pulled on them at Dodger stadium and glass bottles thrown at them. But that said, Philly has it's share of numbskulls that continue to make it easy for the media to do this.

But it's been awhile since the Cowboys have done anything in the playoffs (But I did enjoy the win over the Eagles) I for one am sick of him and really wish that he hired a GM, which isn't going to happen. Oh and believe it or not Jerreh didn't come up with the God's team thing that was one of the players said right after Texas stadium opened.

I can totally understand being upset after a very close loss or a loss where you let the game slip away, or maybe even a loss in which you were "screwed", but if it was a 100% total ass beating, it is absolutely pointless to dwell on it. It is best to just move on. Like, for example, a couple of years ago when the Cowboys blew their shot at the playoffs on the last game in the regular season against, fittingly enough, the Eagles. I think the final score was 34-6. About halfway through the game, I came to terms that Dallas was getting their collective asses handed to them and just started laughing at the game. Actually made the game much more enjoyable for me in the end. I guess what I'm trying to say is, Philly fans all need to take chill pills. It isn't a good idea to dwell on every single loss for a long time. Gotta take your lickings and just get back up.

Last year, the only loss that I really remember taking hard was against the Redskins because it was the perfect storm of terrible play against a mediocre team, Andy Reid being Andy Reid, and godawful officiating. That loss pissed me off to no end. But the rest of the losses? Meh. Even after the Packers loss in the playoffs I wasn't that upset. I realized we made too many mistakes against a team we couldn't afford to make them against. The only way the craziness will end is if/when the Eagles win a Superbowl. But then it will probably just turn to cockiness.

I just think it's hilarious to read this list and reading about things like arson, riots, etc...and then he goes and says pukemon's idiocy to be "the most heinous incident in the history of sports." It's like sports journalism 101: Make an article that slings mud at philly and watch the hits roll in. It's a vicious cycle - people don't stop saying we're the worst, and we just embrace it, giving more fuel to the fire.

I literally RAGED when Dallas' game tieing, and barring the extra point missing, game winning TD as time ran out being negated by a f***ing holding penalty on the offense. I couldn't be calmed down for several hours.

Some Nets games have more people there for the VISITING team then the home team.
Also, our fan base is so low/bad they are moving the team to New York because there is no future in Jersey.

It's always weird watching the Knicks vs. Nets games when they're playing in Jersey (be it Izod or the Rock). It never fails to be essentially a home game for the Knicks.
Granted I think moving to Brooklyn is an AWFUL idea as I can't see Knicks fans living there suddenly switch over and they'll alienate any fanbase they have in NJ. Think they'd have a better shot in Long Island away from the five boroughs.

Ill agree that 'screwjob' losses are the worst. im off the chain if the isles or dolphins get 'hosed' by refs. Last years phins steelers game sent me into a blind rage, and the isles 2007 playoff series got me heated. That said, im pretty apathetic about baseball umpires. Cant get that worked up 162+ times a year. Still love the Bravos, but they cant get me physically ill like the islanders or dolphins can, at least anymore. A decade plus of postseason failures numbs you.
