I'm more worried about the Raiders' offseason then a lockout, but it still sucks. I know they're both related, but you know what I mean.

So why bother locking the players out? It's a negotiating tactic. It forces the players to go off site and pay for their own rehab. Stops the players from getting paid. Keeps them completely away from coaches etc. Allows the owners to start a new season with "scabs" if they truly wanted to. The owners want more money, and this is the way they are trying to force the players hand. Were talking about a fight between BILLIONAIRES AND MILLIONAIRES here. I seriously doubt the season will be interrupted, but MLB did have to cancel a World Series due to labor, NBA was shortened to a 50 game schedule down from 82, and in 1987 the NFL actually went with replacement players for part of the season. This isnt about the few guys in the NFL with the mega contracts. This is about the guys who hover around the league minimum and have to work twice as hard as a star players to hold on to a spot. The superstars take blame for being greedy, and do it gladly for the lower tier players to show their support. So in all honesty this is really HUNDRED THOUSANDNAIRES vs. BILLIONAIRES. The general public can't look beyond the salaries so sadly they see it as greed and nothing else. Its easy to forget they get paid at market value. I mean if out of nowhere the market value of a ditch digger was suddenly a million dollars, then thats what they would get paid. Besides, I'm pretty sure the if you're gonna take away income from your employees, not really tell them why, and then not allow them to see the books is illegal. I'm no lawyer though, so thats speculation on my part. Regardless, this will more than likely end and be forgotten about by the time the season starts, neither side can afford to lose face with the general public.

To Panther fans, if you could have only one of these two players which do you choose, Gabbert or Newton? I'm surprised to see that Gabbert is becoming so highly regarded, not that he's not talented, but he comes out of a spread offense like a certain other QB last year that was criticized for it, and even Newton now who people question.

The NFL's Competition Committee has decided not to amend the current rules about maintaining possession throughout a catch.
This rule exploded onto the scene in Week 1 when Calvin Johnson's apparent game-winning catch was overturned on replay. The committee has decided that changing the rule would be too hard to officiate. "The reason it's not a catch is you've got to control the ball when you hit the ground. It makes it easier to officiate. It's a bright line that you can draw," said committee member John Mara.

And the cuts begin for some of these teams. Not sure about any other teams, but while the Giants haven't fired anyone or cut anyone's salaries (yet), the Jets have already cut their assistant coaches' and scouts' salaries by 25%. These are the folk who are on the bottom end of the organization's payrolls and can least afford any sort of salary cut when the owners haven't even lost a single dollar to the lockout yet. I think Ryan and Tannenbaum also took a paycut, but they're compensated nicely for any lost wages and can absorb a paycut a lot more than the scouts.
This is absolutely disgraceful IMO and this doesn't earn these billionaire owners any sympathy points in the public eye.
Of course, the NFLPA isn't content to let the owners have all the bad PR. Asking draftees to boycott the draft is a really dumb move on their part.

I don't think requesting that soon to be union members boycott an event that is for all purpose a massive PR event for the organization that is locking that union out is an unreasonable thing to do.

I think it's more for the college kids than anything. I know it's a big PR event for the NFL, but for these kids that get drafted, it's a huge moment in the sun for them. I just don't think this dispute should take that away from them. Let 'em stand with the union when they actually get into the union.

If are fledgling league struggling for legitimacy, you might not want to advertise open tryouts on your front page.
