Also remember that Johnny Cage is not afraid to die. I'm glad this song established that fact before Johnny got killed approximately 50 times in the storyline, otherwise some of us might have been worried. Speaking of MK music, I noticed that the intro song of Trilogy (on the N64 at least) is a ripoff of Techno-Syndrome with a few notes changed. ;D I liked a lot of the later characters, including Hsu Hao. I'm so sorry.

Did anybody on here ever play the first attempts at MK spinoffs? I am talking about MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero and MK: Special Forces. I heard that both games sucked. I remember around the time Shaolin Monks was coming out, I was kind of thinking "Had Midway not learned from their past mistakes?" and then I read that it was actually a decent game, Shaolin Monks, I mean.

I played Mythologies and it was pretty forgettable never bothered with special forces. I found Shaolin Monks for $19.99 and decided what the hell. Best random game purchase i'd ever bought even though I never officially beat it. That game is too much fun.

I remember playing the first Mortal Kombat at my second cousin's house on his SNES back when I was like eight. Eventually I got II for the Genesis and haven't looked back since.
Oh, and count me in on the MK vs. DC was decent wagon. So what if it wasn't as bloody as the others, the gameplay was still good IMO.

Everyone else all says he is a ripoff of ken masters and one of the worst ever mk characters (which I agree). Shaolin monks was quite fun (prob even better than armageddon in which the gameplay suffered after having all the characters in it). Also DC universe was decent, but still doesn't really feel like a mk game.

I'll start this post off by saying that I loved Armageddon. The Konquest mode added a lot of replayability, and felt kind of like the prototype for Shaolin Monks, with the 3D translation of proper MK gameplay, mixed in with traditional fights, and the plotline was pretty cool, too. The roster was huge, and I had a lot of fun going through all my favourite characters, and discovering new ones (I missed everything after 4, and only went back and played them post-Armageddon). The main thing I loved about it was the character creation mode. It's one thing I hope makes a return in future MK games. It was quite easy to make characters who really looked like they belonged in the MK universe, and added in the possibility for crossovers, like making Ryu or something. Even the little touches like being able to name the character's fighting style helped. When it comes to the classics, I was always more a fan of the first two games than MK3, which felt a bit too cheap in terms of the AI. The computer would be running at me and pulling off 9 hit combos, and I'd struggle to hit 3 hits if I was lucky. MK1 and MK2 were probably the right balance of difficulty and fun. One of the clearest memories I have from when I was a kid, as a bit of trivia, is after my brother went to University and took his SNES with him, we found someone who was selling one, with a few games, including MK1. When we went to their house to pick it up, they'd just completed the game, and it was the only time until a few years ago that I actually saw the ending screen. MK4 was also a lot of fun, for the ending videos if nothing else. Hated Reptile's redesign, though.

Cage ruled! Up until 3 I always thought he was the star of the game personally.

Ultimate 3 is probably my favorite just for nostalgia purposes. Regular 3 was ok but Ultimate was killer. I had the first release of it for Sega Saturn! I got it for my birthday.

I agree on the MK3 sentiment, there is a hell of a learning curve on it. The first match is easy, then you're thrown to the wolves.... dashing, 10 hit comboing wolves. I used Baraka a lot in MK2. Pretty much spamhis scissor blade thing he did over and over.
