I just picked up Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume for the DS. Was only $10 so I figured it was worth a shot. Going to play through it once I'm done with Unwound Future. Great and very dark and somber game. Much better follow up than Silmeria. Just started Knights in the Nightmare and Persona 2 Innocent Sin. Also gottten a good ways trough SRWJ.

Got Reccetear on the PC last night. Does that count? I've heard a lot of good things about Recettear. Sounds fun enough, but store simulations aren't my thing so much.

Slowly working on Glory of Heracles 5. I don't really play console RPGs so much anymore, but I'll still play them on the DS every now and then, since it's a bit less inconvenient for me when they're designed around a portable system (ie : No having to have 3-4 free hours in order to make any progress). I like the battle system, the Greek mythology references, and the soundtrack was done by the same guy who does the music for the Shadow Hearts series.
I approve of this game whole-heartedly.

I seriously need someone to teach me how to play the SRW games. It seems like there's a VERY specific way that the games have to be played to get anywhere (ie : pilot point distribution), and if you don't do it that exact way, you're screwed. I've tried to play OG2 multiple times, but never get very far. Especially since to get the weapons that make the game any easier, you have to do some ridiculous things that if you don't know the game's mechanics inside and out, just aren't going to happen (ie : keeping Arado's hammer weapon on the R-Blade on the moon), or in any stage where reinforcements keep showing up, I tend to have no way to keep from getting my ass completely kicked.

For stat boosting, put stats mainly in defense, Dodge for Reals and Defense for Supers, when upgrading a suits stats Mobility and EN for Reals, Armor and Health for Supers. For damage upgrade weapons. In OG2 teach everyone SP regen, it's pretty much mandatory. Combo & Support Attak are also EXTREMELY important. Team Attacks are also important for getting the most damage.

You'll have to explain how one knows if a pilot's natural stats are geared towards real or super, and towards shooting or melee.

Characters who have hihger stats in Range, Mobility, have skills like Hit & Away, and Spirits like Snipe, Accel, and Fury are going to lean towards Reals that focus on Range more so than a pilot wiht stats in Melee, Defense, skills like Combo, and Spriti moves like Guts & Guard are gonna be Melee based Super pilots Excellen is a good example of a Real Pilot who focuses on guns, Kyosuke a Super Melee Pilot, and Bullet a All Around type.

I've been meaning to check this game out, but my fundage is depleted. It appeals to both the Greek mythology nut and JRPG nut in me, double thumbs up!

Just don't expect the references to be accurate. That's why I'm just calling them references.

Hahaha, if I got upset because of that I'd hate JRPGs. Thanks for the music info.

I'm surprised you like it so much because I saw some gameplay and thought "wow this is every single generic JRPG people think about when they think of generic JRPGs" It made a pretty poor first impression. And if this is the DS one I'm thinking of, the overall look of the game turned me off. But hey, if you enjoy it more power to you.

I'm just finishing up Illusion of Gaia.
Kind of a short game, but it was fun enough. I prefer its predecessor (Soul Blazer), but this has been pretty fun nonetheless.
...I don't even know if Illusion of Gaia counts as a JRPG, I just don't feel like making a new thread.

Love that whole trilogy of games, and am still sad that Europe got Terranigma (the best of the three by a fair bit IMO) but the US didn't. Oh well, it's still in English.
Three of the best and most unique RPGs out there, the Quintet trilogy. Love those games SO much, and I'd probably play them again now, if I weren't so horribly backlogged.

I loved Illusion of Gaia. I still play it every now and then. One of those games where I got a big adventure feel while playing it. The plot barely made sense at times but it was a lot of fun.
In addition to Covenant of the Plume, I'm also playing through SMT: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army. Once I beat it I will have completed it, along with Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, Devil Survivor, and Strange Journey since early 2009. I also have Persona and Persona 3 Portable waiting for whenever I get a PSP, and DemiKids Dark Version which I played for about 20 minutes. That's a lot of demons and apocalypses for a 2 year period.

So, the official Japanese release date for the PSP version of Persona 2: Innocent Sin is April 14th. Wasn't one of the guys in this thread playing that already?
