Capsaicin oil releases endorphins that trigger pleasure in the brain. Hence, a biological reason for so many people enjoying it. The heat clears the sinuses and nasal tract, meaning you can taste more, and want more, so it keeps the cycle going. As far as the culinary application, hot sauces are often poorly made for heat rather than flavor. Raw chilis usually do have their flavorful merits, and aren't used exclusively for heat. Hence, you rarely see chefs resorting to a premade sauce if they have access to decent chilis. And if it's, like, an Anaheim pepper, then that's fine. They at least have some flavor aside from mild heat that they add to things. I use them myself. I'm referring more to super-spicy chilis, that really do nothing but turn your insides into lava and destroy your ability to taste anything else for a week.

GREEN BEANS. THEY'RE THE WORK OF SATAN. yep. cant think of a food i hate more than those wretched things it's even worse that i've told my family what seems like hundreds of times that they're my most hated food, and then they totally forget and make a dinner with them. then i'll say "i've told you before i hate green beans" and they reply "HOW COULD YOU HATE GREEN BEANS?!??!" For the longest time when I was younger, my mom thought I was just being difficult, like I just didn't feel like eating vegetables, and would keep giving it to me for dinner. She eventually realized I wasn't being difficult, I just cannot swallow those horrible things painlessly and she stopped making it part of my meal. Whenever she'd make say, green beans and potatoes for dinner, she'd kindly make me a small batch of noodles or something instead Green beans are so, so awful. Just thinking about them makes my stomach turn.

An Anaheim pepper is extremely low on the heat index. But they all have the flavor you're speaking of. However, if all you choose to focus on is heat, that's likely all you'll see. Chilis are a staple vegetable in many, many cultures, however, and any chef worth their salt knows how to use their heat and flavor effectively. There's no point in going around downing mouthfuls of habaneros or Scotch Bonnets. Without something to counterpoint the heat and flavor, it's a pointless endeavor. The actual talent comes in using the properties of the chili in order to create a larger whole.

Tomatoes Strawberries Peas Sweetcorn Pizza (unless I am intoxicated in some manner, then that's some tasty s***) Jam Cold meat (*shudder*) So you don't like chocolate or pizza?!? CANNOT COMPUTE

At risk of making a dirty joke- clams. I hate clams. And yet, I live in an area surrounded by clam bakes. I'm sure they taste good with a little butter. I'm sure one or two are probably fine. But people at these clambakes lose their damn minds and gorge at 50+ at a time with buckets of butter around them. And the noise it makes when they suck it out of the shell. Barf. That's seriously the grossest thing on Earth.

Ranch. I don't see how people can ruin perfectly good wings by smothering them in ranch. It seasoned mayo. Which is just congealed fat. Ew.

Oh potatoes I have no issue with...unless they're paired with green beans. Then I can't do it. I love potatoes otherwise. There aren't words for how utterly disgusting I find green beans.

I'm like that with peas. I don't know why, but I hated them as a kid, and never changed my mind. However, I am fine with them in beef stew with the rest of the vegetables.

My mom is the same exact way. I don't have anything against peas myself. I don't seek them out but if they're in something like a stew, I'm totally chill with it.

Ampalaya at the top of my list. Tastes even worse than the cough syrup I take when I get sick.

It seasoned mayo. Which is just congealed fat. Ew. Emulsified, not congealed. Yes, the facts do state that. That said I love a lot of disgusting, by some, food. But I can't do chicken skin, most of the time, and chunks of just fat in meat. Which means I like my bacon lean.

I'm not a particularly picky eater. There are very few foods that I outright despise. There are many that I generally prefer not to eat, but very few that I actively dislike. I will generally try almost any food at least once.
A few foods that I generally dislike, but not enough to be repulsed at the thought of them: Braunschweiger Olives Mushrooms
That said, here are the very few foods, that nearly "antielite," the few, the shamed, that I cannot stand: Green Beans, Cole Slaw, and Baked. Beans.
Also, I too like sardines and anchovies, while mayonnaise and mustard are my preferred condiments although I have my relish and hot sauce "phases."

That is one of the few foods that I wouldn't try on general principle, along with the rest of the items off this Cracked list, of which balut is the number one entry.

aka Cthulhu says it's tasty, but I don't think I could do it. I would eat a lot of things, like duck feet, but fetuses seem like they'd be pretty creepy to eat.
