I know alot of people on here have a Facebook account and was wanting your opinions on somethin at what point should it not matter anymore how many friends you have on facebook and if and who you add as a friend? Anyway i'm just asking because I know of people who have up inthe hundreds (700-900) or even more who won't add someone just never have understood that part of it because too me if I had 800 friends #801 will be no different than #800

I have like 150 and that's a lot. I just keep some so I have something to read. I don't mind most the people though so I'm ok with keeping tabs on them.

Yeah, there gets to be a point where there are way too many friends, unless you're like running a celebrity page or something.
It's not Myspace. Just add people you know.

I haven't been paying any attention, but I just went and checked and discovered I have 630. And I feel no shame in that, because they all serve a purpose. I've got a good chunk of people from my high school, and even if I don't talk to all of them on a regular basis, it's still nice to have them in my news feed and see what's going on, and have the option to talk to them or leave them a comment now and then. I'm also an admin on an Alter Bridge message board, so I've added a ton of people that I know through that board as a means of secondary communication / sharing of links and relevant information. The same goes for people in my current town - I have plenty of people on there I never really talk to directly, but I play guitar in a rock band and I like to know that when I post a link to something we'll be doing soon, it's seen by a good cross section of people in the area, whether they're directly interested or not. Exposure is still exposure. Maybe my situation is different because I do a lot of promotion, but I still see nothing wrong with having friends on your list for the sake of having them.

I only add people I actually know. C'mon now, no one actually has 700+ friends.

It really depends on why you're using it. Facebook is a networking tool, not just for socializing, but for business. In my line of work, as a news reporter, we use Facebook as a way to connect and keep in touch with our sources. We want people to be able to contact us whenever they have a story idea. So from a business standpoint, it's not a bad idea to have a lot of people.
As far as friends and such, I'm not even sure I know 700 people. I do know that I have 225 friends on mine, and I can guarantee that includes some people I've only met once or barely talk to at all. But it's not like I'm losing sleep over them being on my friends list, either.
But hey, if some folks really do know 700 people and has a reason to keep in touch, more power to them.

I am a concert promoter and tour manager so it is my job to network.
I am near 1000 and Ive probably met and had a conversation with around 90% of those.

Admittedly, a large number of my Facebook friends, I added for various games and don't talk to them anymore, but most of them don't post much, so it doesn't really clutter my page. Otherwise, I'd go ahead and remove them.

My ex was a mod on a country music forum and feels like (she still does all this) she has to friend EVERYONE she meets. Forums, school, concerts, etc. You know those people that you just wonder what they would do without social networking? She's there with ease. She had over 2,000. No joke. One day she even said that she was cutting down big time to get it to a more reasonable number. She had 1,600+ when that was done.

I don't know. I'm almost into the range that you guys are all like "well, obviously no one has that many friends!", but with the exception of two or three people, I've met every single one of them in person. And the "people you may know" section is still filled with scores of people that I got along great with back home or here at school. So maybe I'm just better at making friends?

I currently have 167, and it encompasses pretty much everyone I've ever met (family, old school friends, internet friends, ex-girlfriends, and so on and so forth). Maybe it's just because I'm small town, but I just cannot fathom knowing 700-800 people well enough to have them on my Facebook list.

I've got under 30. I dunno if that qualifies me as anti-social, but having a small group of close friends is something I inherited from my dad.

I have over 300 and I could tell you where and when I met each of them in real life. I don't accept requests from people I can't remember meeting and although some of their updates annoy me rather than potentially upsetting them by removing them I just block their updates.

Got about 70, most of whom I either know well, meet occasionally or live here on the board.

I have somewhere in the 130's. It includes my real life current friends, friends and acquaintances from school, family members, family members of friends that I was close with, people I work with and online friends.
I do ignore friend requests often if it's somebody that I don't know. I'm not there just to have a huge number.

I have about 230. I know all of them personally in some way or another.
IMO there is no such thing as too many or too little. Facebook is just a website. Considering that you are counterculture and going against the grain by not having a lot of FB friends iis just as bad as thinking having 500+ FB friends is in any way a reflection of how popular you are. Truth be told, it doesnt matter either way.
