They could have had that same match only better, longer and caught by more people. More people? Do more people order PPVs than watch Raw on Monday nights? Really?

The WWE is so afraid of a show without Cena that I thought for sure we would see some classic Cena matches/moments inserted into tonight's Raw.
Now they are doing the same for Orton. No f'n idea why they needed Orton in the title match instead of Morrison, other then looking for a quick ratings grab on the 1st Raw of the year. But still, Orton/Miz would have drew also!

Yeah, dumb WWE trying to give the most people what they want. I know right? Who cares if those guys are are biggest merch movers and the most popular stars of their show. While true, if you never make anyone else seem like they're on the same level as the top two or three guys, then no one else will ever be on the level of those top two or three guys. You don't have to elevate all comers, but if you keep the same big main eventers in the same slots for years and years, they and only they will be the most popular and move the most merchandise without fail.

More people are going to be interested in a match if it's on a big PPV than on a throwaway Raw, you'll be suprised by how many people just skip Raw these days. I worded it very wrong but that's what I was going for.

I get WWE wanting to use "the big stars" for the big PPV matches (although they shouldn't give crap to WCW anymore for doing the same damn thing).
BUT...Morrison vs. Miz in a WWE Title should've been way more than it was. A real feud. Bringing up their past. PPV matches, etc.
Felt like a waste... The Rumble was a perfect opportunity where the buyrate won't sink or swim on the new guys in the title match. This is the show that tries new challengers (non-proven draws): Benoit (2003), Holly (2004), Henry (2006), Umaga (2007), Hardy (2008)...
Reminds me of when they chickened out with RVD in 2001. He beat Jericho twice before the new year. Then, once 2002 started, The Rock got the title shot out of nowhere. All that RVD/Jericho buildup...up in smoke! (pun not intended?)
Whatever... I knew where we were headed once Miz' top enemies seemed to be Orton and Lawler. With Morrison a distant (and barely existant) third.

I just don't get why Miz/Morrison isn't main eventing the Rumble. They could have had that same match only better, longer and caught by more people. It makes sense if their match tonight was an appetizer for a big PPV match, but it wasn't. A major waste of what could have really skyrocketed both men. The match still did a lot for both guys. Morrison is firmly cemented in the upper-midcard now and The Miz looks way more legit as champion. I still see no reason why that match couldn't have been on the PPV though. Unless he wins the rumble and takes miz on at mania

Unless he wins the rumble and takes miz on at mania You have more faith in this company than I could ever muster after the same Mania main event combos since WM 23 (Cena, Orton, HHH, HBK, Taker, Batista & Edge). They try a lot of new crap all throughout the year but come Mania time it's "forget everyone we've built up this year...get Cena, Hunter & Orton!" If Miz makes it to Mania as Champ, they're gonna give the challenger spot to a "real star". No doubt.

I'm more annoyed that everyone is shouting "MIZ LOOKS SO MUCH MORE LEGIT NOW" when he didn't take a single bump during that "falls count anywhere" match aside from being dove on by morrison from the set.
Actually, I can't recall Miz ever taking a big bump period.
Morrison carried that ENTIRE match.

I remember the second half of 2008 being fresh for Raw atleast. Cena and Orton were both injured, while HHH was on Smackdown. We had Batista, CM Punk, JBL, Jericho, and HBK all in the Main Event scene

Exactly...it takes injury to force this company's hand. If Cena and Orton go down at the same time again, they're screwed. Surely they'd rely on the older main eventers (HHH, Taker, Rey & Edge) but they're pretty much injured 9 months out of the year nowadays.

I'm calling it right now.
Morrison wins the Royal Rumble and beats Miz for the title at WrestleMania.
I think the match last night was an appetizer to get the fans pumped for the big rematch at Mania.

They won't even risk the Rumble having Miz/Morrison for the title, why would they have it be at WrestleMania?

WWE can't build a face. They just don't know how.
I don't either, but WWE DEFINITELY doesn't.

I'm going to the Rumble and had been excited about seeing a Miz/Morrison title match. Then they announced that the match would just be on Raw and that annoyed me. Then I tune in to Raw and find out that it's not even the Main Event and that annoyed me even more. Then I found out that I'm going to be seeing Orton in the title match at Royal Rumble and I just threw up my hands and said, "that kinda sucks." It won't hamper my enjoyment of going to a live Rumble because the Rumble is the real attraction, but it does make the title match seem a little bit more bland.

Yeah, I really don't know why they didn't hold off on Miz/Morrison until the Royal Rumble. I was looking forward to the buildup and with the Rumble match being the mian attraction, it isn't like it would have affected buyrates in any way. Plus, Orton would have added more star power to the Rumble match.
