Yeah, Netflix still does work, if you know how to crack it, since it's a bit tricky...but yeah, since the program accesses your Netflix information INSTEAD on your PSN information, that's why it still works. If people are still unsure, i'll teach you through it. 1.) Log on to Netflix. 2.) As the program is loading, your PSN log-in will surface. 3.) Log in as necessary, and when the PSN tells you that it's "down for maintenance", press the O button and back out of it. 4.) Netflix won't close down and will keep loading up. 5.) Rinse and repeat Step 3 until the home menu loads up. 6.) Watch awesome movies. ;D If you hit "X" to login anyways, you only get the "maintenance" screen like twice, then it brings up your Netflix menu.

Is there a timetable yet as to when the psn will be back up? Not really. They hope to have everything up and running by the 31st.

Is there a timetable yet as to when the psn will be back up? I think they've stopped giving out set dates at this time. It's just "stay tuned to the Playstation Blog for more info". Has anyone else heard differently?

I'm assuming the DLC, demos, and what not release like normal, I guess, and we'll just have a flood of new stuff when it gets back on. At least that's what I'm assuming what with how GameStop is handling their PS3 DLC codes for L.A. Noire(they'll work once PSN is up, and for them to work the DLC has to be out, so just putting 2 and 2 together).

Look at the bright side...at least once the PSN is back up, we won't have a dry spell.

All this aside, I can't wait to see the 1st Kevin Butler commercial after this mess is cleared up. Also, I can't wait to see Sony's E3 showcase. I imagine if they even DO bother to bring him back, they won't have the same wiseass tone. The thing with this is...Sony got humbled the old country way, hard and without lube. They're NOT going to be in a position to sit there and smirk at ANYONE for a very long time. You know how Xbox has that lingering cloud about the "RROD" following them? THIS situation is going to follow Sony the same way. Plus, they've taken a bath on sales of SOCOM4 and it's peripheral accessories, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if some retailers didn't come after Sony for lost revenue, along with game developers and/or designers deciding to take their business to more secure, and less bothersome companies like Microsoft or Nintendo. Sony's present is rocky enough...but their FUTURE could be where the real trouble lies.

Nintendo currently has the two most hacked systems on the market. The Wii and DS have been hacked to hell and back, they don't even know the first thing about security. Hell put it like this Nintendo recently released a new update for the DSi to combat piracy(again), and within 24 hours after the update came out, the update was already hacked and people were back to pirating on the DSi. Microsoft, while not as bad as Nintendo, is just as vulnerable as Sony, a couple of years ago Xbox Live got hacked. Now the hackers didn't do anything as bad as what the PSN hacks did, but still, shows that Xbox Live isn't safe either. If anything, until the PS3 was hacked, the PS3 was arguably the only "safe" system on the market period.

And yet, PS3 will get crapped on the most by this all, because "all the cool people play the 360" (no offense to anybody that plays on the 360, i'm just making a point that the 360 is the hipster's console)

If anything, XBL is more vulnerable. All you have to do is write a client for PC that spoofs an XBox, then distribute viruses into the network. Since XBL automatically trusts all connections that register as a 360, you can send all sorts of fun viruses into the XBL network without any safeguards against them being disseminated.
Luckily for legitimate XBL users, most hackers are XBL users and they're generally unwilling to take down their own network. The 360 has probably lost more revenue on software sales to piracy than ANY OTHER platform this gen, and I'll include PC there. Now, they clean up on hardware sales, because all Microsoft does is ban modded console, which just sends them back out to buy another 360 Arcade.

Nah, PC is still king of lost revenue on software sales due to piracy. Let's put it like this, each year the PC version of the new Call of Duty game gets pirated millions of times, none of the other systems come close to how much gets pirated on the PC.

Won't that sway designers and manufacturers away from Sony in the long run? I can't believe this whole thing isn't going to come out as a negative against Sony.

Most of the business will realize the same thing can happen to them, and some it probably has in some way. There will be a hit, but it wont be as bad as many people think.

Pretty much the only people in the industry truly affected by this are any independent developers with games on PSN, because this hack, and thus subsequent downtime has pretty much killed their current financial quarter. Though Capcom is also complaining that they are losing money off of this, but EA, Activision, and Ubisoft have all pretty much said this is only a minor inconvenience for them.

Most pirated games of 2010The totals of the top 5 most pirated games for the PC, Wii, and 360 are: PC: 18.14 million total downloads Wii: 5.34 million total downloads 360: 5.4 million total downloads What was that about the PC market for games outside of CoD isn't huge? Each of the PC's top 5 most pirated games in 2010 had almost as many downloads as the entire top 5 lists of the 360 and Wii.

Move out of your top five, then what are you looking at? Also, remember, one download of a 360 game is usually several pirates, since they flash the game onto a drive and make multiple copies. There are people that make and sell pirated 360s for cash.
