So, just finished this game for the first time finally. I've played it a few times in the past, but I never actually beat it.
Holy f***ing s***, what an amazing game. I can't really think of anything at all to complain about. The story is insane, and just gets better and better.
I'm about to start the second game. Pretty damn stoked.
Edit: My stats are horrible, but I'm terrible at stealth games. Really, I'm terrible at most games that aren't RPGs.
Anyway, ending stats:
Game Level: Easy Play Time: 12:10:18 Save: 41 Times Continue: 50 Times Being Found: 45 Times Enemies: 112 Killed Rations: 79 Used
Honestly, I didn't think I killed that many...but a lot of those probably come from the points where you pretty much have to kill the guards because they just keep getting thrown at you. But yeah...obviously I'm really, really bad at this sort of game.
Also, please use spoiler tags for any major plot points from any of the games. Except for the first and second. Thanks guys.

THe third game is my absolute favorite in the series, and one of my picks for best game ever.

THe third game is my absolute favorite in the series, and one of my picks for best game ever. I second that. I even took the time to find all the kerotans in MGS3. You'll love the story, and the action. A different pace from MGS2

THe third game is my absolute favorite in the series, and one of my picks for best game ever. I played some of it when it came out, and it's definitely an awesome game. But I've just recently developed the resolve to actually FINISH games I start. I've actually cut a huge swath through my backlog since then. MGS3 is next after 2. I'd really like to play through and beat the whole series. Alas, I don't have a PS3, so 4 is out of the question right now. Eventually though.

THe third game is my absolute favorite in the series, and one of my picks for best game ever. I'd say the sniper battle between The End and Snake is what took the game to another level of greatness.

SO not looking forward to that. I am the worst aim ever. I mean, I didn't die against Sniper Wolf either time...but I still did really poorly. On easy.

You just have to have a lot of luck on your side and not mess it up.

I have beaten it more times than any other game, and I am getting the 3DS version day 1.

Has anybody even gone through MGS2, 3, and 4 without actually killing anybody? I have gone through 3 without killing anyone. I mostly tranquilized the enemies and when it came to the big chase/escape sequence, I used stun grenades, same with using the Mosin Nagant when I had to fire from a distance. My most recent playthrough of MGS2, at least the Big Shell part, I actually killed only 21 guys, and that was when I fought the Arsenal Tengus.

One of these days I'm going to have to get "Twin Snakes" again and try again with it.
And since it's in the same series of games sorta, how are the Metal Gear Acid games?

As far as the Acid games go, I couldn't tell you. I'd like to play them, but I've never had the opportunity. I'll pick them up eventually though. Twin Snakes, however, was awesome. I never beat it either, due to my previously mentioned lack of resolve for beating games...but it was very fun. Also, the MGS2-styled gameplay made it a lot easier. Particularly the fight with Revolver Ocelot, because you can just go into first-person aiming and f*** him up. I kinda think they should've revamped that battle for Twin Snakes just a bit, simply because it became so spectacularly easy.

I love the MGS series.
All four entries are AMAZING, but MGS2 is certainly the weakest of the bunch. It is by far the shortest of all the MGS games, and, well, you spend the bulk of the game as Raiden before he became badass.
I'll echo a few others on MGS3. It is my favorite in the series.
As for The End, well, The End is part of my now #2 greatest gaming achievement(my current #1 was beating Halo: Reach on Legendary by myself). On, I think my 3rd or 4th playthrough of MGS3, I was playing on Normal(I played all my previous playthroughs on Easy), and well when fighting The Fear, I actually found the freaking thermal goggles.
When I got to The End, I was low on ammo, REAL low, so low I knew I couldn't beat him in a shooting contest, so I switched to my knife/CQC and waited for him to run up to me and bitch smack me. I threw on the thermal goggles and followed the old f***'s fresh, hot footprints, and basically chased his ass all over the area, CQCing/knifing him, and then I killed him. Yes, I beat a master sniper.....with a knife, and only a knife. Thing is, and I still kick myself to this day over this, I shouldn't have killed him, as he was also very low on stamina, so if I held back and just chased his ass a little more, he would've been beaten the non-lethal way, earning me his sniper rifle.....

Not sure about the Acid games but Peace Walker is brilliant, there's a PS3 port on the way though so it's probably best to wait for that. I like that The End can die of old age. Anyway back on the original topic I loved MGS, it’s easy to forget how special it was back in the days when stealth was new and graphics weren’t only some of the best we’d ever seen but served a gameplay purpose (footprints, breath etc).

It`s really cool to hear about somebody losing their Metal Gear virginity 13 years or so after the game came out. Just wait until you get to part 4. The series ties together so well in the end. You`ll almost cry.

METAL GEAR?
Personally, I'd go as far to say that it is my favorite game series ever. I try to play through all of them at least once a year. Also, I did complete Metal Gear 3 with no kills, but it was on Easy & with the EZ Gun, which knocks them out with a shot to anywhere & gives you an instant 80% camo index.

You`ll almost cry. I wouldn't necessarily say I'm losing my MGS virginity, necessarily. I've played all 4 main games in the series. I just unfortunately never beat any of them. So I guess the series sort of...put it part of the way in and then took it out? ...I'm so sorry.

MGS is my favourite VG of all time. Such a great game. Still have the PS1 version on my shelf. "WHAT'S A HIND D DOING IN ALASKA?"
