IMO, this has to be the most under-rated/under-appreciated Metallica album to date. Now I understand the issues w/ the sound mixing people have, but the actual song quality is as good as anything Metallica has ever done if you ask me. It seems to get the stigma of "all new Metallica=bad" mentality, despite there are plenty of kick ass thrash songs that wouldn't seem out of place on any classic album on there. So let's show Death Magnetic a little love.

Death Magnetic is one of those albums that as I climb the mountain of "like it" right as the summit is right in front of me some guy labeled "sound mixing" kicks me in the face and sends me down.
A bit of a strange image, but damn, there are a lot of good songs on them but they all sound like I'm listening to them through a tin-can phone.
Even with that it's still way better then their last few efforts.

As much as the sound sucks, I love the tunes.
All Nightmare Long and Unforgiven III have to be my faves.

I really don't hear the issues with the sound, but I'm not an ultra-audiophile, so I don't really know what to listen for.
That said, I LOVE Death Magnetic. It is a wonderful, wonderful album.

It's not a big deal to me and i enjoy Death Magnetic but i know what you mean..i had the same gripe about Slipknot Vol. 3 which like Death Magnetic, was produced by Rick Rubin.

It's a good album indeed. Probably their best since Black Album. I just don't understand why Metallica continue to play Cyanide. Not the worst song they've ever written, but I think it's the crappiest from Death Magnetic. Personally, I think they should be playing That Was Just Your Life or The Judas Kiss instead.
They do good in just about always keeping All Nightmare Long on the set.

Bad mastering aside, it's a really, really good album.

I don't think I've gotten through the whole album yet (nothing against it, just haven't had time), but from what I've heard I love it. "Cyanide" is f***ing heavy!

It's really good, it beats St Anger and Load (albeit I'm not sure when it comes to ReLoad). But I prefer their 80s stuff by far.
Also, The Unforgiven III should not have gone by that title, there is no continuity of sound from the first two at all, and it really just sounds like they had a hard time titling a song, and so decided to make it the third Unforgiven due to a few lyrics.

I wish they would do an album full of short 3 minute thrash metal songs kinda like what Slayer songs. I'm kinda tired of long Metallica songs.

Funny thing is, years back when Rick Rubin was working w/ Slayer, he was talking to Metallica and told them they need to play shorter songs. I believe Lars told him "But the fans like longer songs" and Rick said "No, they like METALLICA. They tolerate long songs". Then when he finally works w/ them, he tries to get them to go to their routes... and encourage long ass songs again.

f***ing love this album. It's actually the first full Metallica album I bought and listened too, and been a fan every since. I just love taking a long car ride and playing the entire album straight through.

Good album. I'd put it fifth overall behind the first three and the black album.

Great album. Sound mixing and hearing it played by my flatmates on Guitar Hero all the damn time tainted it a bit, but a great album nonetheless.

A solid album, much better than the critics gave it credit for. Cyanide and All Nightmare Long are some bad-ass new Metallica.
